True to its name, "Night Light" sees Jessie Wares's powerhouse vocal shining with stirring emotion to a backdrop of swirling guitars, majestic piano flourishes and addictive down-tempo rhythm. The video, directed by Chris Sweeney, shot in a beautiful monochrome tonality embodies the theme of protection and suitably features cameo appearances from Jessie's boyfriend and sister, Hannah Ware. Destination: Charlotte, North Carolina ... Flight path: Jon Meneses aka Joneses. Putting together an undulating and shadowy dark & stagey anxiety; which crescendos into a xylophone pressure of black mini skirt sexiness and cooker pressure electrified-steam, up & comer Joneses eases this creation out from SBTRKT’s Original skilfully. Emotionally stimulating and charged with inner tears and uplifting sadness, Joneses generates another production care of Crystal Castles’ ‘Violent Dreams.’ Elated bliss has arrived in four interesting examples forthwith. One to watch, for sure. [...]

Jessie Ware is a talent to watch. Not only because she has a good ear for beats, but because she is not afraid to delve into sounds that might be deemed by some as dated. On this lovely track Jessie Ware strips down the production to a melody that supports the lyrics. The sound is timeless in doing so, with a tint of nostalgia. The arrangement is nothing new, but it is inspired by vintage material that rarely makes into this decades. Aspects of lounge that have been long gone are revisited and commemorated. A good song for the hour [...]

Tonight marks the first ever WINTER concert at Red Rocks. With that in mind, why wouldn't it snow. Last night Atmosphere opened up for Brother Ali at the Ogden and tonight he will be headlining the Icelantic Winter with Common and despite the fierce elements, the show is SOLD OUT! Bundle up and wear your snow boots, because the ramps are a tad slick. Tonight's event may have sent a precedent for future winter shows at Red Rocks and if you put on the show, people will come. SXSW is right around the corner (March 9 - 18) and the music schedule is is now live. Other than CMJ , this is by far the best music festival in the US. I don't have the time and/or patience to list the hundreds of bands announced to play, but some of my favorites include: Alabama Shakes, Built to Spill, The Magnetic Fields, Talib Kweli, The Drums, Bear In Heaven, Deerhoof, The War on Drugs, Miniature Tigers, SBTRKT, Best Coast, M. Ward, Youth Lagoon, Tennis, Dan Deacon, Lana [...]

A lot of people said 2011 was a terrible year. Myself included. And sure, in some ways it was, and in some ways it wasn't, and 2011 is as subject to perspective and the theory of relativity as any other year. But it seemed tough for a lot of people. Europe began sinking into critical debt, natural disasters seemed particularly rife with 2011 kicking off in Australia with devastating floods in Queensland... And of course as the people of multiple countries stood up to their dickhead dictators and said 'enough', they were (among other things) used as human shields. It [...]

#1-25 (the youtube player has all the videos above in a playlist, press >> for the next song) 1. Rihanna feat Calvin Harris – We Found Love [there's no doubt that this is wholly a calvin harris production, but it's riri's melancholic vocals over his drowning beats that bring this club tune to the top of my 2011 list. i haven't felt so elated and yet kind of bummed out at the same time in ages...maybe cause it's a running theme of my year? screw it, lets dance!] 2.

Click image to download track Sounds like: Hot Chip, Lockah, Lana Del Rey, SBTRKT "Joe Goddard Feat. Valentina - Gabriel (Ossie Remix)" What's so good? Just the other day I shared a remix of Lana Del Rey's somewhat over-remixed track "Video Games" - and that seemed to go down pretty well. So I figured I might as well share this: a [...]

Last year, right around the time summer turned to fall, we at Stereogum published our list of the 40 best new bands of the year . The idea of a "new" band is a pretty nebulous one, since many of the kids we listed were probably planning out their musical ventures in their basements since they were 11, but these were all artists who started to make a dent in our collective consciousness last year. This year, we've got another crop of 40 new artists who deserve your attention. So here we go again. A few clarifications [...]
