Bearing in mind the sound of now seems heavily rooted in the 802s with its big drums, stadium sized moog synths and echoey guitars, we think we have found the coolest band to represent it. Cougar favourites Friends new video for the single 'Mind Control' is every bit as cool as it's predecessor 'I'm His [...]
Ridley Scott’s not-Alien prequel (i.e. it’s takes place in the same universe, and is set before Alien, like a prequel (even if it doesn’t follow the same story)), Prometheus , is out today, in the UK at least. There are showings starting right now (midnight). Reviews have been disappointingly mixed so far but I’m still looking forward to seeing it today. But we’re not a movie ‘zine, we’re an electronic music ‘zine, so what’s occurring? Well, in honour of Prometheus’ release we want to share this little gem with you. Nostromo ’s ‘Alien’, a big cosmic [...]
Only discovered, King Tuff today, but thank god I did. I stumbled upon their brilliant video for the equally amazing “Bad Thing”. The bands acts as ghouls in a campy haunted house tale, that concludes in a live show. The song and video are tons and tons of fun. They just released their S/T new record yesterday through Sub Pop. get it over here . King Tuff - “Bad Thing” Facebook Twitter
Just so we're clear. We now live in a world where The National (the epitome of literary indie rock emo for white people and I band I happen to enjoy in spite of that) have recorded the official ballad for "The Rains of Castamere", which, according to Topless Robot , is the "most famous song from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series." The song was written about Lord Tywin Lannister's crushing victory over rebellious House Reyne of Castamere and the destruction of the House at the end of their rebellion. That took [...]

Okay, not really. But how much would you want to watch that show as imagined by illustrator Travis Pitts in which the duo fight monsters and ghosts? The answer is you would want to watch that show a lot. Actually, this sort of feels very Mike Mignola-esque, doesn't it? I previously went ape shit for Pitts' illustration of Velma as a zombie slayer . [via drawn ]
NBC has a new show coming out this fall from producer J.J. Abrams and director John Favreau about what happens 15 years after the entire world loses electricity. The premise for the show is cool, but doesn't it just feel like this show is going to get cancelled after about five episodes? Maybe it's that the trailer reveals the electricity hasn't really gone out, or maybe it's the solidly bland cast or maybe it's NBC's poor track record when it comes to science fiction. Like CBS's long-cancelled Jericho , this feels like a show that needs [...]

Fans of the Christopher Nolan Batman films are going to have the chance to see the legendary superhero's vehicles, the Tumbler & Bat-pod, up close. The Tumbler first appeared in "Batman Begins" and the Bat-Pod was introduced in "The Dark Knight." Both will be featured in the upcoming finale, " The Dark Knight Rises ." The vehicles are making their way across the country leading up to the final film's release on July 20. Though exact location details have not been fully released, city stops have been announced. Slugabed. I don't even need to know more. Slugabed is the coolest name. Slugabed is pretty much how I felt this morning, but this mix is slowly bringing me out of my haze. Most of it is like, atmospheric dub (if that can be a thing) punctuated by those lovely distorted synths and all those nostalgic video game sounds. I feel like I just one-upped my life. Tweet

I have a confession to make: I am a pretty big geek. I've spent the weekend rebuilding my computer, watching anime, and playing video games. Not the first-person shooter types; RPGs and "artsy" games. I have a decent grasp of the sci-fi world, so when a (similarly geeky) friend showed me that io9 was doing a countdown of the "100 Albums Every Science Fiction and Fantasy Fan Should Listen To," my ears perked up. I won't spend much time explaining how io9 is a haven for those interested in this kind of thing. You can check them [...]
Above, Bran and Robb Stark recount the family history of House Stark. There are also brief histories for: House Lannister , House Targaryen , House Arryn , House Baratheon . These videos are perfect for anybody who is fascinating by the Game of Thrones universe, loves the HBO show, or is just too lazy to read a 1,000 page book. Yes, that would be me on all three accounts. See Also: Simpsons GoT Couch Gag | Calvin & Hobbes GoT Cosplay | Game of Thrones Relationship Map [...]

On September 17th 1976 NASA showed off America's first Space Shuttle the Enterprise, in Palmdale CA. Apparently, Captain Kirk was too cool to attend? Somewhat Related: First two seasons of Star Trek played simultaneously
Tor , which is the largest publisher of science fiction books on the planet, announced that all of its ebooks would become DRM-free starting in July 2012 . “Our authors and readers have been asking for this for a long time,” said president and publisher Tom Doherty. “They’re a technically sophisticated bunch, and DRM is a constant annoyance to them. It prevents them from using legitimately-purchased e-books in perfectly legal ways, like moving them from one kind of e-reader to another.” DRM-free titles from Tom Doherty Associates will be available from the [...]
Nifty Star Trek homage? Check. Starring cats? Check. With a mouse as the evil alien species? Check. Oddly well-made? Check. Makes me wish like hell this was a regular sitcom on tv? Check, check and more check. [via Geeks Are Sexy ]

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis play the same hit-man at different points in his life in the sci-fi, time travel, action film Looper . Much has been made about the effort to make Gordon-Levitt look and sound like Willis, but I'm more interested in writer and director Rian Johnson, who has demonstrated a real knack for messing with and honoring genre conventions with two stellar features in the noir detective flick, Brick (which made Gordon-Levitt's movie career), and with con men and caper flicks with The Brothers Bloom . [...]
“Prometheus” International UK Trailer
Luc Besson's new movie Lockout is basically a sci-fi remake of Escape from New York starring Guy Pearce in the Snake Plissken role. I'm not really all that excited for this flick, but it looks decent enough to keep on the radar to watch some rainy weekend when there's nothing better to do. Could be a fun way to spend a few hours. Solar Bears // “Cosmic Runner” There is always music to look forward to, but seldom are the times when I find myself so eagerly anticipating an album that I can barely stand the wait. Solar Bears ’ forthcoming Supermigration is one of those times. One of the things that I love most about the Irish duo’s music is that it is a perfect companion piece to my love for genre films. They create this perfect hybrid of different styles that at times reminds me of horror film scores of the late [...]
