The Boy Scouts of America, generally concerned with explicitly heterosexual activities such as wearing jaunty uniforms and tying fancy knots, decided that they may now consider allowing some of the gays in, so everyone will just shut up already about what jerks they're being. More specifically, they are considering a resolution stating that "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone." It hasn't passed yet and won't be voted on until May 20th. Let's all stop for a second [...]
You know we've always said that Madonna has to step up her game when it comes to the civil rights fight, yet every now and then she manages to impress us a little bit. She is, after all, the mother diva and no one can take that away from her (well, maybe Mariah when she is her age). Plus, her speech is much better than Gaga's. With All Those Relays, NY band Scout's first album since 2003, Ashen Keilyn has deconstructed the band and put it back together piece-by-piece — new players, new producers and, most importantly, the best songs of Keilyn’s career. Keilyn set out to create All Those Relays, inspired by music, film, and the idiosyncrasies of everyday life. Scout’s new music was created organically, each song born exactly when it was ready. Keilyn took her time with this music, and her careful, relaxed writing makes for gorgeous, free-flowing songs. “I feel like a big sponge. I take [...]
The Struts from Derby with a tasty slice of indie-rock, turn it up to eleven. Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of Truckstop Darlin's latest album here's a live video of a song from the album Hope & The Heart It Breaks Scout has put out a new live video of the track "Tongue Tied," off their latest release All Those Relays the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign .
The Replacements released one of their most successful albums in 1984 and called it Let It Be. It didn’t seem to matter that The Beatles already took the name, but that’s the type of attitude the Replacements were known for – to be daring and kind of dumb. Let It Be was their fourth album, and by this point the band decided to expand their sound from punk. While they didn’t abandon their roots altogether – Let It Be is far from polished, and has tracks like “Gary’s Got a Boner,” and “Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out,” there are songs [...]

If you know anything about me know this: I love The Replacements . So I'm thrilled whenever a new 'Mats cover comes out. This rendition of "Answering Machine" is courtesy of NYC's Scout . I think the mood is captured beautifully. Listen to it here:
We're thinking that we just might make Friday the perfect day for a weekly cover song and what better way to kick this brainchild off than with this ultra-cool version -- and free download (!) -- of The Replacements' "Answering Machine" from SCOUT , the NY duo fronted by songwriter and vocalist Ashen Keilyn. Atop some initial acoustic strums, Keilyn and guitarist Steve Schiltz (Longwave) slowly turn up the heat to a gentle simmer, Keilyn singing her lamenting ode to frustration with "how do you say goodnight to an answering machine?" With a sound falling [...]

Scout’s new chapter finds Keilyn simultaneously at her most emotionally raw and her toughest yet, creating an album both empowering and vulnerable — and catchy as hell". `All Those Relays` is a piercing collection of Alternative Pop classics and Ashen Keilyn`s beautifully distinctive voice. As Scout readies their upcoming release, All Those Relays (set to drop next Tuesday, March 27th), the band has released a nougat of the album titled, "Under Attack," including a live acoustic video, which we've decided to feature below. Why? Because, I think it's my favorite version of the song. I enjoy the more stripped down take on the single. It's ambient, rainy day music that is oddly comforting at the same time. It's not meant to be empowering, it's about feeling under attack, which is probably why I like the stripped down version the best. Either way, it's worth [...]
Strong, yet gentle, Scout eases the pain of the long wait for their next album by letting genuinely organic experiences take the shape of an LP.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the possibility of landing one of the biggest free agents to ever be made available in ex-Indianapolis Colts' quarterback, Peyton Manning. The DECISION was finally made this past Monday and as a result, Denver has a new QB and the existing one (Tebow), has decided to select the circus otherwise known as the Jets. For the record, Sanchez stands zero chance of keeping his job for the full year. Expect for Tebow to start by midseason or earlier if Sanchez shows his lack of progress. [...]
"I'm allowing thing to happen at their own pace," says Ashen Keilyn -- in supreme understatement -- of All Those Relays (March 27), the first album in almost a decade from her evolving almost-one-woman indie alt/pop band Scout . Together with co-producer and guitarist Steve Schiltz (Longwave) -- and Spoon drummer Jim Eno on three songs -- Keilyn has sharpened both her songwriting skills and her sound in the process of creating Relays ' brisk and melodic pop/rock hooks. When she sings "I get so close to calling it quits" in the [...]
