Post rock band Scraps of Tape released their fourth album in the end of October, "Resident Flux". They say that the ambition was to make a raw and spontaneous album, and that most of it should be recorded live directly. They had booked five days in the studion but already after two days they and their producer Per Stålberg were finished. And the album is indeed raw and energetic, to a large extent instrumental, but with guest vocals by Mattias Alkberg, Cecilia Nordlund and Mizuki Ida on some of the tracks. And it's the song with Mattias Alkberg, [...]
At long last available for public consumption, the new Scraps of Tape single "Flera meter kort" featuring guest vocals from Mattias Alkberg of The Bear Quartet / MABD . Said tune will be released on a digital 3-song EP and 4-song 7" on August 15 and can be preordered here: http://tenderversion.com/store 2008/index.php?act=viewProd&pr oductId=59 Otherwise, look for the band's new full-length album "Resident flux" to be released in late October with many, many more fine guest vocal contributions from a plethora of artists.

I have set up some smart filters in my inbox now, and that's how I found back this one. The email arrived during my holiday, disappeared for me, and was luckily found again (see my apology below). It included some very nice popmusic from a Swedish band called Solander . Solander is Fredrik Karlsson backed up by various people mostly from the Malmö underground scene, sometimes a full band and other times only a single cellist. The project has existed since 2005, and Karlsson has made music [...]

Words/Mixtape: Mike Oldham Genres: Post Rock/Math/Ambient/Electronica Just like Oliver's mixtape recently, I have no theme for my mixtape... these are just a few of my favourite tracks knocking around on the hard drive. A mixture of Post Rock, Electronica, Math Rock & Ambient. Yes it's a bit post rock heavy but that's just how I like it. Hopefully you'll find something awesome that you've never heard before.. Enjoy. 1. Talk Talk - New Grass (Early Post Rock? from this rather famous 80/90s band) 2. [...]
"Grand letdown" . Before the music even starts I hear the sound of hacks worldwide sharpening their pencils, rising to the challenge of who can scribe the punniest headline. Take the time to actually, truly listen and you'll hear a band growing and expanding on their already expansive sound. More vocals, more dynamics, more beauty, more... songs? Still too postrock to ever be pop, but they sure toe the line. As for the letdown? Verse one implies self-doubt, but the track moves to external anguish as it proceeds. Or is it just changing to a third-person view? Regardless, [...]
Scraps of Tape 's new album "Grand letdown" will be out in March via Tenderversion. I'm not sure if the tracklist has been 100% confirmed yet or not, but I've been told that the band has recorded covers of both "Filler" by Minor Threat (awesome) and "Eric" by Carpet People (more awesome). And the five songs I've had the pleasure of hearing so far: very, very awesome. Be patient!

My recurring complaint about post-rock: it's almost never heavy enough. You'd think that wouldn't be a problem for a genre whose entire raison d'etre is based upon epic build-ups, but it's the sad ugly truth. I've heard way too many pieces that fall just short of awesomeness and it drives me crazy. Just when you think they'll kick it up that extra notch, they wimp out. So anticlimatic! Thankfully Scraps of Tape , young upstarts that they are, are not afraid of weilding such power. This is the opening track from "This is a copy is this a [...]
And yes, the great Avi from It's a Trap! has struck again, hitting me up with another amazing CD from an excellent Swedish act in the form of "This is a Copy is This a Copy" - the sophomore full-length from Scraps of Tape on Tender Version. This one's ...
this has defnitely been ten or twelve of those days, and the best way to remedy those days is with a bunch of these: the first band, sublux, is apparently no longer together. theirs was a quite pleasing take on the post-rock thing, and i'd recommend checking these tracks out asap because they're on one of those "could be gone at any moment"-type sites . . . sublux - the clear (from nothing that is still ) sublux - ghost of the trench (from [...]
