Jack Beats : Facebook | Twitter | Soudcloud When I first started walking down the path of dance music I was still searching for something to keep me grounded in what I grew up with. I was searching for an artist to bridge the gap between the hip hop/DJ[ Turntablist ] culture that was always present in daily life[while growing up] and the ever growing 4 on the floor that was becoming more present each day. After spending many early morning/late night hours digital crate digging I discovered Jack Beats. [...]

It's one of London's most talked about night spots – the infamous Fabric. A Warehouse full of 24 hour party people traipsing between its many rooms and none too glamorous cement 'outdoor' area. It's Friday night (and I feel all right) and MOBO is quivering in the cold whilst burly bouncer man handles me into the club. The pulsating sounds of Seb Chew on the decks are resonating around the buzzing foyer – hurry up and let me in my good man! Hand stamped and coat put away I hot foot it to the main room to get [...]

For our final night in London, we couldn't help but return to Fabric for one last dose of bass. Featuring Oris Jay, Scratch Perverts & AD, Horsepower, Benga & MC Youngman, El-B, Dom & Roland. Annie Mac Presents takes over Leeds University this Saturday October 30th with a monster lineup including Chase & Status, Doorly, Scratch Perverts, Beardyman, Ms Dynamite, Zinc, Caspa and more. Advance tickets and event info here.
A video mini-mix of every track from the latest Scratch Perverts mix which is out on the 18th October. Not UK Hip Hop but with their roots firmly in our scene the boys deserve our support, even if this release is on Ministry of Sound! Oh, and the music is stuff that I'm sure you'll all bug out to anyway.

A period of time has passed and we've almost all forgotten about Jack Beats. They stormed the dance music scene in 2008 / 2009 with some killer tunes, and were the talismans of a mini-genre that was relevant at the time yet was so niche that it seemed like its shelf life expired before it even got going. In case you're still wondering, I'm talking about 'fidget house' - the most irritatingly named music genre since music began. So the Fidget craze didn't last long, and quite frankly, it wasn't very good either - but Jack Beats rocked [...]

Welcome back to the Rusko-mpilation, a list of some of my favourite, if often underrated, Rusko tracks. WARNING: You may want to leave the room at this point...me and your speakers have some messy business to attend to.... The first few are some of the less well-known ones from Caspa & Rusko's "Fabriclive 373, mixed, quite amazingly, in a single continuous take, due to the fact that "the sound-desk guy was going home". While they aren't all tracks produced by Rusko, they are all great examples of the dubstep sound Rusko had such a big part in [...]

Rusko, the Leeds-born dubstep producer, has brought us some of the best and most off-the-wall dubstep tracks of the last couple of years, partly because he was making them when almost nobody else was and so had the freedom to do whatever he liked, oblivious to the jeers of the liquid drum and bass massive, in stitches at the idea of half-step drums and pounding bass instead of their 180 bpm breakbeat and "space noises". He has just released "Woo Boost", yet another banger, on Caspa's Sub Soldiers label, but, though I am sure he will be bringing out [...]

A friend sent me this little gem this week. The part that struck me as the most impressive was the heads spinning on the turntables, but its all pretty badass. Neurosonics Audiomedical Laboratories Tags: Neurosonics Audiomedical Laboratories , Scratch Perverts

Tenuous link number 89.7. Tonight in the UK is Guy Fawkes night, otherwise known as Fireworks night or Bonfire night thanks to the consentual pyromania that sweeps the nation. Back in 1605 Guy Fawkes and his Catholic homies tried to blow up the Houses Of Parliament whilst the Protestant King James I and his bredren were all inside. The Houses Off Parliament nowadays (and we have it on no authority back then as well) are chaired by The Speaker, kind of a referee for politicians. So we have, in celebration of this historic occasion, a bunch [...]

Last month, the DJ world was rocked by the news that pioneering figure Grand Master Roc Raida (of X-Ecutioners/X-Men and DMC/ITF battle fame) had passed away . In order to pay tribute to one of their own, the DJ community in the UK is pulling together to pay their respects and raise vital fund by holding a tribute and fundraising event tonight (7 October) at Vibe Bar in Brick Lane, London. The fundraiser, which is being hosted by renowned UK DJ crew Tha En4cers in association with Vibe Bar, features a ton of big names [...]

Kingdom of the unreal but also a higher state of being, ultimately free of the limitations of the material world through the agency of science, technology, and imagination. Foreign Beggars are well on their way towards breaking into the states, but as they and the rest of the world know we Americans love our visuals and random acts of violence. Gotta feel bad for Shlomo though, his cloned severed heads really took a beating! Super awesome video.
