Sera Cahoone with Jeff Fielder ::: Photo by Josh Lovseth I'm so glad to see this recording see the light of day because it highlights Sera Cahoone cohort Jeff Fielder's ongoing contribution on dobro. I can honestly think of no greater purpose than for him to compliment Cahoone's still nationally unheralded voice and songwriting. Her talent [...]
Sera Cahoone ::: photo by Dylan Priest Sera Cahoone was the first artist we asked to shoot a Doe Bay Session this year, so it only seems fitting she's the first we share with you. We approached Sera bashfully about shooting with us. You see, we happen to think she has the prettiest voice of anyone [...]
Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside Doe Bay Session ::: photo by Josh Lovseth It was 5pm on Saturday when we made our way down the trail to the point with the sunlight darting through tree branches with Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside and a handful of their friends from Portland in tow to film [...]
Otter Cove Stage ::: photo by Josh Lovseth You're already planning on catching most of the mainstage acts, you're ready to party with Champagne Champagne, dance with Pickwick, you've mastered the complex clap of The Maldives' "By the Wind Sailor" and you can't wait to sing along to "Rivers and Roads" with your best friends. But [...]

Carissa's Wierd , one of Seattle's hidden gems, has surfaced once again. The band is best known for their heart-rending and honest lyrics woven with piano and orchestral strings. Their live shows are intimate, emotional, and hushed. After breaking up in 2003, some members moved on to other prominent musical endeavors such as Band of Horses , Grand Archives , and the solo project of Sera Cahoone . We all thought the tragically sweet music of Carissa's Wierd was laid to rest. Last July, it came as a surprise to hear that the band would celebrate the release [...]
Doe Bay Fest ::: photo by Josh Lovseth In a week full of festival line-ups, there's no denying Doe Bay Fest's was the one we were most looking forward to learning. Alongside many of the expected cast of characters, like four-year festival veterans The Maldives, this year's Doe Bay line-up has expanded beyond its usual radius [...]

Great show last friday at The Columbia City Theater featuring Sera Cahoone. Ghost's I've met led by Indie folk artist Matt Watts, opened the night with some delicate and beautiful songs backed only by Faustine Hudson's unique and eclectic percussive sounds.(washboards ,floor tom, bird caller...ect) The set remained appropriately sparse and intimate. From what I've heard of Watts latest release Payphone Patience E.P, I'd say it's worth checking out. He's at the top of his game in this particular genre. It features Darren Jessee of Hotel Lights, and can be found at Yerbird records . [...]
100Bands Poll: Choose A Band! If you are an avid concert goer like us, then you are familiar with those unfortunate times when two bands you want to see live are playing at different venues on the same day. In some cases it is an easy choice, but other times when you have an equal interest in both bands, it can be downright impossible to choose one. Riddled with indecision, I am asking you, dear reader, to take the matter into your own hands and [...]

The quiet shows are always the most vulnerable. Chit-chat at the bar can poison an entire evening, wafting over from clanking glasses to the stage like a toxic cloud. I have seen musicians simply pack up and leave when conditions are too boisterous for their fragile ways. Tuesday night's show was the antithesis of this. Credit to the quiet crowd, so bashful that every musician remarked on it. Patrick Park even filled the gap between a pair of songs by making cricket chirps as he tuned his guitar (surprisingly realistic ones at that). [...]

Earlier this spring, we reported that Jay Lane was leaving his gig as part of the two-headed drum attack in Furthur to rejoin Primus to reform the band's original lineup with bassist extraordinaire Les Claypool and guitarist Larry LaLonde. The quirky alt.rock act has announced that they will hit the road this summer for their first headlining tour in four years, where they will be joined by gypsy-punk band Gogol Bordello , that includes stops at the Williamsburg Waterfront and the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater. Furthermore, the band will also head [...]
Sera Cahoone ::: photo by Abbey Simmons Nowadays one of spring's most tell-tale signs is the announcements of summer line-ups. In the past week alone, my summer show plans have thickened considerably with three local summer schedules coming out: the No Depression Festival, Zoo Tunes and Marymoor Park's line-up. Out of all of the following dates, I'm [...]
Justin Townes Earle ::: Photo by Abbey Simmons Being a lifetime Seattlite (at least so far), it's in my temperament to be naturally set against anything related to Pullman. It's irrational and rather childish, yet this way of thinking persists on the west side of the mountains, to the point where Pullman might as well be [...]
Sera Cahoone ::: Photo by Abbey Simmons "Pullman you say? A music destination you say??? Pffft..." Yes, I know your trying not to laugh. But Pullman resident, ardent Inland-Northwest music supporter, and the man behind Stereopathic Music Larson Hicks is gunning to make it exactly that. Looking at the lineup he's confirmed for a weekend in [...]

Grand Archives are back with their second full length release, Keep in Mind Frankenstein , due out September 15th (pushed back from an original release date of September 8th). The band's sophomore effort is much like that of its predecessor, having been crafted at Paradise Sound in Index, Washington with help from producer Ben Kersten (who also recorded the band's 2008 debut). Front man Mat Brooke 's former Carissa's Wierd cohorts, Jenn Ghetto and Sera Cahoone , sing backing vocals on the [...]
![Sera Cahoone: Baker Lake [Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1785713_lg.jpg)
It's no secret that one of my all-time favorite groups is Carissa's Wierd [sic]. That group has birthed some of the greatest names in music today, from Band Of Horses to Grand Archives. And, of course, Sera Cahoone . Cahoone's music lands somewhere between folk and country with heavy inclusion of steel slide (played by Jason Kardong) and banjo. Last year she released her sophomore album Only As The Day Is Long on Sub Pop . Now she gives us a video for the romanic-tinged [...]
I've just found out that Sera Cahoone is a barista at the closest coffee shop to SOTS HQ; I suspect just for the atmosphere of the place I'll be spending a fair amount of time poking around anyway. Above you can find her new video for the song "Baker Lake" on of my favorites of [...]
Keeping with the video theme, here's another *brand-spanking-new* video from Seattle's own Sera Cahoone . "Baker Lake" is the title and said music video was directed by Ryan McMackin, who may or may not be the drummer for local outfit the Maldives (not to be confused with the prized Indian Ocean archipelago). Couldn't quite nail that one down. . This is one of my favorite songs off Only As The Day Is Long , and not just because [...]
the normal inclination, on a such a night of the week, might reflexively tend toward the rambunctious, the celebratory. not ours, at least not this week. this week's friday night feels better suited for catching our breath, and so a playlist to reflect it, built mostly of new(ish) songs we've been meaning to promote for a while now: scott brabson - bird bosque brown - went walking [...]

Fruit Bats ::: Photo by Josh As part of the Vera Project's 8th Birthday Celebration, the Fruit Bats , Sera Cahoone and Moon Pulls the Ocean were on hand to entertain a sold-out crowd. We weren't smart enough to figure out tickets ahead of time, so we not-so-patiently waited in line outside for an hour or so, hoping we'd make it in before the cut off. Just barely we got lucky and made it in. A host of others just behind us in line weren't so lucky and were left out in the [...]
