It wouldn't surprise us if even local feni brands put together an EDM festival in Goa. Booze + beaches + "internationally renowned DJs" is a formula that never goes old in India's party capital (aka the world's economy Ibiza). The latest addition to the end-of-the-year party madness is the Bacardi Blast festival organised by E18. The two-day affair which takes place at the Panjim Gymkhana Club recently got a lineup which includes British EDM heavyweight Chicane and Faithless member Sister Bliss (pictured). December 19-20 will also see a bunch of Indian electronica acts (and Shaa'ir + Func [...]

The Indiecision Decade In Review is our retrospective of the last 10 years in Indian independent music. These are our picks of the best Indian indie albums of the last decade. #05: Procrastination – Zero Zero nailed everything on Procrastination - a fittingly tongue-in-cheek title, great production values and some of their best choruses songs. While this may have been Zero's third full-length album release, [...]

The Indiecision Decade In Review is our retrospective of the last 10 years in Indian independent music. These are our picks of the best Indian indie albums of the last decade. #15: Confect. – Scribe With their debut album Confect, Scribe made an indelible mark on Indian metal. This was a quality album from a top notch metal act, given away for free. They'd either have to [...]

Yahoo!'s yodel marketing campaign saw them set up pop up recording studios all over the world, including Mumbai, getting the aam aadmi off the street to record his own version of the yodel. Each studio had 'celebrity mentors' and in Mumbai, these were electro-rock act Shaa'ir + Func . Yahoo! shot a short film with S+F, finding out the way the work and their influences, soundtracked to new material from their coming third studio album. It's a fun watch and songs like 'Goodbye Cruel World' and the lavani-inspired 'My Roots' get good airtime. If you [...]

The Indiecision Decade In Review is our retrospective of the last 10 years in Indian independent music. These are our picks of the best Indian indie songs of the last decade. #15: 'Ebb' - Lounge Piranha Despite how much Lounge Piranha claim they're 'post-rock', they're not. At their most experimental on their debut album Going Nowhere they found themselves somewhere between moody, lyrical pop-alt and drone-y, rhythm heavy splooge that was basically an [...]

The Indiecision Decade In Review is our retrospective of the last 10 years in Indian independent music. These are our picks of the best Indian indie songs of the last decade. #25: 'Gutterment' - Pin Drop Violence For a couple of years in the early-'00s Pin Drop Violence was India's flagship metal act. Fresh off their victory at I-Rock 2001, the Mumbai band incited brutal moshpits wherever they went powered by the uber-tight hardcore of [...]

Organised by RSJ and the Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan the festival will see some top Indian electronica acts perform in the capital alongside a bunch of German artists. A treasure trove of kvlt gems, Global Groove's official website is, well... here's the first line from the General Information [...]

Shaa'ir + Func , menwhopause (pictured) and Motherjane will represent India on a new compilation called PEACE that features artists from over 50 countries. The compilation will be released digitally in January 2010 with a pay-what-you-want system (minimum two Euros), and all the proceeds will go to Amnesty International's humanitarian aid projects in areas of conflict. Over 100 artists are participating in this effort from regions as diverse as Palestine, Algeria, Burundi and Iceland. What's cool about this compilation is that it's not one of those no-cred comps that features absolutely unknowns. [...]

Shaa'ir + Func played their 'acoustica' set at San Qi at the Four Seasons in Mumbai on Friday, Sep 4. Poor sound, poor light and a disinterested audience ensured one of the worst gigs of the year so far. We were there. 'Oops'! It was an appropriate end to what must have been one of the most difficult gigs Randolph Correia and Monica Dogra have ever had to perform. They decided to play an acoustic set in a venue that suffered from a poor sound system and a most inappropriate a layout for [...]

The Ladakh Confluence came to an end on Monday, August 31. We followed the festival right from its announcement to it's conclusion , and thanks to Sharin Bhatti , have these gorgeous pics from the hills to share. The Ladakh Confluence: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 (was largely rained out) Ladakhi Monks Gyomo Nakamura blessing the Confluence and declaring it open on day one. [...]

Many would have called it a catastrophe. Others would probably say amiable heresy. Tenacious D could write a ska song about it. But The Ladakh Confluence 2009 seemed to ride above all evil, all hiccups (major and minor both) and well, the scenic splendour of the arid wasteland in the Trans Himalayas provded the perfect backdrop for the four day music festival. In its maiden year, the extended line-up unfolded over the four days in the very ambitious venue of the highest plateau in the world - Leh. Considering the fact that over 60 artists traveled [...]

Shaa'ir + Func played the Blue Frog on Thursday, Sep 6. Their set comprised of old favourites and new material from their yet untitled third album. We were there, soaking in the UV. Is predictability always a bad thing? It's a question we were left pondering at the end of Shaa'ir + Func 's last gig at the Blue Frog. The group – which includes drummer Lindsay D'Mello and bassist Anand Subaya in its live avatar – delivered all that they've come to expect of them: unusual outfits (Shaa'ir showed up in a [...]

Indiecision's picks of the best gigs to attend this week in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Maby and baking. Mumbai It's a quiet gig week in Mumbai this. The Supersonics (pictured) round up the Mumbai leg of their Maby Baking launch tour with a set at Landmark, Infiniti Mall in Andheri (W) at 6:30pm today (Tuesday, Sep 1). We caught the band twice last week at Hard Rock Cafe and the Blue Frog and [...]

One thing everyone must know about Ladakh is that besides it being our closest proximity to the roof of the world, it can also test the roofs of your patience. So day three at Sindhu Darshan Grounds, took the longest to start. It was 5pm, and we were still not done wasting ourselves in the now-dying-heat on the supposed panic healing tents. But things did get a headstart when post Mahesh Vinaykram's vocal session, Shaa'ir + Func took to the Nyima stage. After the previous evening's full show , the electric pop duo sat on [...]

What do vegabonds, castaways and trippy folks do while they procrastinate on sheep grazing grounds? They dance. And so day two of The Ladakh Confluence kicked off with a drum & bass set by Mumbai's Tribal Flora. By now we've figured things won't roll before 3pm and so have most of the festival junkies. The Israelis will rule today as the didgerido , the djembe and the hangdrum will fill the windy air at the confluence. So while the sheep were driven astray, Tribal kicked off the festival with a drum & bass jam, joined by [...]

Indiecision's picks of the best gigs to attend this week in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Tough and fun. Mumbai Mumbai's packing some great gigs this week. Head to the Blue Frog on Tuesday, Aug 18 for singer-songwriter Nikhil D'Souza . We caught the Mumbai crooner at the Blue Frog a few months ago and thought that his Damien Rice-David Gray sensibilities were perhaps a little too pronounced. Still, his act has a lot of potential, ably displayed in [...]

Open Mind Night at Zenzi, Bandra (Mumbai) last Thursday featured among a bevy of Indian indie's who's-who, a special performance by P-Man of The P-Man Show . The Khiladi frontman, who shot an episode of The P-Man Show at the venue (featuring interviews with Raghu Dixit , Luke Kenny and Monica Dogra ), performed a cover of Shaa'ir + Func's 'Love Love Love'. The, um, rendition of this new track from S+F's yet untitled, WIP new album featured just P-Man and a bass guitar. We asked P-Man why he [...]

Indiecision's picks of the best gigs to attend this week in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. Short and stout. Mumbai There's plenty of great gigs for every genre this week in Mumbai. Kick off your gig week with Bhayanak Maut at Hard Rock Cafe on Tuesday night. The Mumbai metal act will launch their latest album , a first release on the new label Grey & Saurian, along with an opening set by Workshop. Expect a whole bunch of [...]

Remember that new Shaa'ir + Func album we've talked about, a little? It needs a title, and the electro-rock duo want you to name is. S+F are playing the Blue Frog this Thursday, Aug 6, and if they think your name's creative, you and a friend get in free. Their first two albums were titled New Day: The Love Album and Light Tribe . The band has been previewing the new album on their MySpace , allowing fans to experience the music as it passes through [...]
