Solar Bears: Supermigration - Straight out of Ireland, Solar Bears ' long-awaited sophomore release has finally arrived and for me, completed the beginning of my spring. With a sound that drifts somewhere between the subconsciousness and dream-like electronica, Supermigration is a record that sounds effortless, yet intensely thought-out. After the release of She Was Coloured In in 2010, I ran into them while perusing suggestions from a friend. Its subtle, sleepy melodies hit me like a ton of bricks, and I was instantly hooked. From its [...]
Listen to Solar Bears ' new song "Cosmic Runner" below. Twenty twelve might just be shaping up to be Solar Bears' year after already dropping "Alpha People" , one of our favourite tracks with Keep Shelly In Athens ' singer Sarah P. Back in 2010 the Irish duo released "She Was Coloured In" , their electronic, psychedelically-c harged debut album, and now a couple of years later they've almost finished its follow-up and have dropped this new track from it. [...]
Tweet Listen to Solar Bears 's new track "Alpha People" featuring Sarah P. of Keep Shelly In Athens below, from their new album "Supermigration" . Ireland's Solar Bears have been at this "let's make some of the most easily-get-behindable and downbeat electronic music around" for a year or two now, and on top of the singles and remixes they've released they also managed to pump out an album, [...]
![[Introducing] Solar Bears](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3389544_lg.jpg)
Boards Of Canada, Four Tet, The Knife & Oribital fans, lend me your ears. The other day I received an email with some of the best new music I have heard in recent weeks. Albeit this band isn't hot-off-the-press new, but to me and probably most of you out there, this will be your introduction. Solar Bears is a two man electro band hailing from Ireland. The members, John Kowalski and Rian Trench, are currently working on new material. "We just started writing again [...]

Solar Bears have not only been mixing and remixing their own songs, they've also seen fit to remix a few of their friends' songs as well. From FUR to Keep Shelly In Athens , they've been busy over the last few months and these are the fruits of their labor. All 4 tracks demonstrate the moodiness we best associated them with on She Was Coloured In as well as keeping the original songs in full mind. And soon after, [...]
![[Listen/Download] – Solar Bears – “Cub” (Keep Shelly In Athens Remix)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3237245_lg.jpg)
For a band without a true full-length, Keep Shelly In Athens sure knows how to keep its name in the headlines. Their latest effort is a remix of Solar Bears' "Cub," a good-not-great track from 20102s "She Was Coloured In." Well, the track is now great. It is immediately apparent that KSIA wants this track to move , upping the tempo from the first note, and it does, riding Legend of Zelda synths until the real change arrives: vocals. Similar to KSIA's other work , I wouldn't wait on the lyric sheet for this track. [...]

Reviews. Webster's dictionary defines review as: To make like new or restore to freshness, vigor or perfection. This is the result of those inquiries. Cut Copy: Zonoscope - After anticipating this as much as I was, it was admittedly pretty difficult to let it speak for itself over my own expectations. I guess I was hoping for them to revert back to what they did on Bright Like Neon Lights . Did they? Of course not, they've already done that. [...]

Seemingly appearing out of nowhere, Irish duo Solar Bears began to cause a stir towards the latter part of last year, gaining rave reviews from the likes of NME and FACT Magazine, even squeezing into several end of year lists. Combining eclectic influences, with an expert knowledge of materializing beats, Solar Bears create intense and immersing post-rock esque music. There's an angelic tint to their synth heavy, other worldly debut album She Was Coloured In, released on Planet Mu Records. CitR were lucky enough to catch up with one half of the duo, John to get a few key questions [...]
It was never hard to imagine Solar Bears lending their music to a soundtrack. It sounds like it would compliment pretty much anything. I just didn't think it would work with a 1973 French/Czech science-fiction film. But it does. 'Dolls' provides the music for an obviously weird five minutes of [Read more]

Tweet This maybe terrible but whenever I hear of a new band from Ireland a few scary stereotypes come into my head; U2 (not another one please) & Sinead O'Connor. Fortunately Solar Bears don't sound anything like either of the above. To be honest it's difficult to quite describe this lot, sort of lo-fi meets hi-fi, languid, chilled out but peculiar electronica. The album, She Was Coloured In , was released earlier this year and deserves a listen, preferably whilst doing something involving [...]
For all the undoubtedly great and varied music that’s been released on this fair isle in recent times, it’s strange how few Irish bands have made an impact on the non-Irish blogosphere. One possible reason for this is that the more influential blogs tend to favour certain types of music or trends over others: at the moment, sci-fi-influenced electronic soundscapes or shadowy ‘witch house’ are very much in, while the heavier, more-rock-orientated end of the spectrum favoured by bands like Adebisi Shank, Jogging or BATS doesn’t see as much hype. This may also partly explain the roaring success of Dublin/Wicklow [...]
Solar Bears have been getting a lot of attention lately, including making a great mix for NME not so long ago. Below is the official video for 'She was Coloured In', from the album of the same name. It is out on Planet Mu Records on September 20. You can [Read more]
