As I sit here and ponder what to write for my annual Dilla Day post, I find myself thinking about the first time I heard James Dewitt Yancey's music: A friend had told me to check out the track "So Far To Go" off of Jay's album, The Shining . From the second "So Far To Go" started playing, I was hit with a myriad of emotions, and I had no idea how to comprehend what was bombarding my ear drums; once the piano section kicked in right around the two minute mark, I damn near burst [...]

The 7th of February is an important day for hip-hop. In 1974 J Dilla was born in Detroit, United States, whilst on the same day and the same year Nujabes was born in Tokyo, Japan. Who could have known on that day what a great gift was being handed to music lovers across the globe, with hip-hop still in it's infancy, two of it's greatest children had just been born. Not only would their talents remain bound through a shared love for progressive hip-hop, but even their deaths became symbolically linked as they both passed in the month of February. [...]
Earlier this week, the NYT's issued this correction after screwing up a detail in their retrospective of The Shining, Stanley Kubrick's horror classic: This article has been revised to reflect the following correction: Correction: January 29, 2012 An earlier version of this article incorrectly described imagery from "The Shining." The gentleman seen with the weird guy in the bear suit is wearing a tuxedo, but not a top hat. Yes, that would be [...]
It hasn't taken too long for the boys from England to start working on their next album. The follow-up to last year's Pala has already begun, and the trio is looking for inspiration in different places. Friendly Fires is channeling the atmosphere of Stanley Kubrick's classic The Shining for their next album. In a recent interview with 6Music , guitarist Edd Gibson stated, "I think we are trying to force on an element of the film The Shining , or the book The Shining , as a cultured [...]

There seems to be ongoing confusion about the two Scandinavian bands with the name Shining, so I've devised these [not at all] easy-to-remember mnemonics for recalling which one is which: Shining (Norway): Saxaphones Harbor Inventive Noodling and Industrial Norwegian Greatness Shining (Sweden): Sweden Has Icy Nordics If Niklas = Ghoul There! Easy, see? Here's the [...]
Alex Metric @ Shine NYE 2011 Epic night!
His label calls him techno's Susan Boyle, but Essex producer Attaque is by no means rehashing electric operas from the past. He's at the front of a genre takeover that revels in organic chemistry and warehouse parties. Setting the knobs to drive, Attaque has dropped his most recent EP Shine and both sides dictate the floor by force. Tasting them for the first time, a cross between TWR72 and NT89 comes to mind which goes without coincidence as he sits beside them on the London label Bad Life . The A-track "Shine" is [...]

![1982 – "Shining" [Audio]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3962771_lg.jpg)
Too much shit going on here. It's 2012 and the second 1982 album called "20123 is about to come out. If you can sort all that out, here's the first single from the album. Only thing is...it's not that good. Not that bad, but I think this combo needs a little time apart. This song doesn't stand out from all the other stuff they've been dropping unceasingly for the past year. 1982 (Statik Selektah & Termanology) "Shining" (Dirty) by clockworkmusic

Ideia louca. São os Throes (Igor Domingues e Marco Castro) com o kuduro dos The Shine (André do Poster e Diron Shine). Este é o videoclip para "Batida". Muito louco. | FUSÃO | www.facebook.com/pages/Throes- The-Shine/181754271894506

I guess you can say that the RTD blast of this EP back on 11/11/11 was a preview. Or that the artwork here is now cleaner and more devoid of RTD affiliation ( EDIT I did see that @ DanielJoseph tweeted that this is the "real version" , so there you go). Whatever the case may be, this beautiful EP is now up on Bandcamp, and looks prettier than ever. Everything I said then still holds water now. Shouts to the Jersey dreamers and Dub MD . What do we get when Damnation Festival 2011 mixed extreme guitar playing with even-more-extreme saxophone playing? We got Shining, from Norway, that's what. Gary Wolstenholme was n hand with his camera, as always. -- Click here to see the rest of our coverage of Damnation Festival 2011.
If last week's preview of the new Shining (the Norwegian version) Live Blackjazz DVD got you as tickled pink as it did me, then you're in for a treat this morning. I found this full clip of "The Madness and the Damage Done" on Heavy Blog Is Heavy - where else? - and I'm just entranced [...]
