Whenever a band changes up its style, the decision is usually met with jeers, hisses, lit torches, and angry pitchforks (in both the physical and digital sense ). The Noisettes are an entirely different entity. With the release of Wild Young Hearts on September 21, their second major LP, the band demonstates that experimenting with a new flavor doesn't have to be the gateway to ruin-in fact, it can lead to the most pleasant of surprises. We're at Rock City nice and early to catch the support bands but we're still not there quite early enough to get a good enough spot for decent photos. Sorry. Stricken City desperately want to be Florence & The Machine, which is no bad thing of course, they just need a bit more practice. They describe themselves as 'mistakist' and produce a slightly clumsy set with barely audible vocals by singer Rebekah Raa who also tinkles away on her Korg keyboard. Well, this is certainly surprising. Last time I heard Noisettes the London trio was hardly confined to one genre, but its muscles flexed hardest on the rock side of the fence. The band's recent UK single is a far cry from anything on its sprawling debut, What's the Time Mr Wolf? , eschewing sinewy bass lines and flashy rock guitars in favor of disco beats and electronic flourishes. Earlier on, I reviewed the Pipettes and I am pretty sure I have found the Thrash Metal version, Noisettes . I love Noisettes and I think it is hard not to. Big rocky riffs, brilliant vocals, huge bass lines and the fact three people can make such a huge sound should be enough to please anyone.
