2012...what a year of music. We got new releases from favorites such as Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and heard new favorites in Father John Misty, Nude Beach, Tanlines, and more. Last year Earbuddy celebrated one year of existence with the best 50 albums of 2011 . However, we've grown since [...]
Hope you are having a great day celebrating your independence by blowing crap up. Hope these sweet tunes will help you enjoy your freedom even more. 12. The Shins - "Simple Song" 11. Michael Kiwanuka - "Home Again" 10. Dr. Dog - "Lonesome" 9. Sigur Ros - "Ekki Muk" 8. Miike Snow - "The Wave" [...]
As we're presented with more music than ever before here at TWJ, decisions like the ones needed to narrow our favorite songs of the year down to a definitive list become increasingly difficult. In the grand scheme of things, this is obviously a trivial issue, but when attempting to whittle a pool of 50 or [...]
Well, everyone else is doing it, so why don't we? We're going to toss out our top five albums of the year, except we'll be doing it with our four main contributors, so hopefully that'll mix things up a bit. Obviously, we're only half-way through the year, so things are subject to change, and by things I mean our minds. Nicole Baumann 1. Beach House- Bloom At first, this album for me seemed a [...]

2012 So Far (January - March): The Staff Picks It is list time already here at Earbuddy. Join us as we count down our favorite songs of 2012 so far as well as the most disappointing albums and the ones we are most looking forward to. Put your favorite pair [...]

Albums of the Month - March 2012 After hitting a snag in January and seemingly going through the motions last month, March exploded. Quality albums from big names like Odd Future and Tanlines , alongside some unknown entities really made gave a lot of optimism for the remainder of 2012. Number one may not be a surprise for some of you, but the month gave us a lot of unexpected gems. Here are my favorite three. [...]
Releases from Bombay Bicycle Club, Tanlines, Geographer, Fanfarlo, and six other albums make our Top Ten Best Albums of the First Quarter in 2012.

After nearly five years since their last album, the long awaited, highly anticipated, and already wildly popular, new album by The Shins, Port of Morrow, was officially dropped this week. The release followed weeks of build-up and buzz, and was complimented by appearances on SNL, The Late Show, SXSW, and widespread coverage on mainstream media [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

The Shins - Port Of Morrow In a good week for comebacks and side projects, The Shins' first album for five years is one of the most interesting releases, and proves that James Mercer hasn't lost his knack for big choruses and grand sentiments. The long-awaited album by The Shins , their first in five years, tops this week's list of new releases. James Mercer has rebooted his project with a new band and heightened production, thanks to Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Kylie Minogue, The Flaming Lips, etc.) and contributions from Richard Swift and Deep Sea Diver's Jessica Dobson, among others. Port of Morrow also deals with some weightier topics, like religious violence and mortality, but even with that and its more richly textured sound, the album is unmistakably "The Shins" and features Mercer's clever turns of phrase and captivating voice. So the obvious pick for today is The Shins new album... I mean they changed our lives for heck sake. There is some other good stuff out today if you have the time. Just go through the list dummy, why didn't you think of that? Oh and contrary to what is written on the side of the above ship... feel free to tug at your leisure. Battles: Dross Glop 3 [vinyl] Birdy: Birdy Brad Mehldau: Ode [...]

A few of my favorite new releases this week, including the highly anticipated new LP from The Shins and the latest from Lost in the Trees, which I for one am most excited about. As always, be sure to head on over to Largehearted Boy and Amoeba for many more of this week's releases. Choir of Young Believers// Rhine Gold ♩ [...]

Either we listen to too much music, or there are lots of recognizable artists on this week's short list of new music releases. Okay, perhaps it's just both cases here. We listen to a ridiculous amount of music. This week you could flip a coin to see what we're the most excited for. There are some older names here, but some rising stars as well. Let's just kick it all off with Tanlines who's Mixed Emotions has been buzzing for the past few weeks leading up to today. We're pretty sure you'll like this [...]

Angel Ceballos I'll say up front that I never got around to listening to Learning , the first album from Seattle's Mike Hadreas who performs as Perfume Genius , when it came out in 2010. While his short set of voice and piano didn't get drowned out in the lineup of guitar-heavy rock at Matador 21 but rather impressively managed to silence it, at least for the duration of his short set, it didn't manage to do the same against all the stuff I had to listen to at [...]

A whirlwind week such as this could only end with a bang. Suffice to say, that's exactly what we have here. Jay-Z ( and his child)? Leonard Cohen? The Shins? Three juggernaut names that could easily headline any number of top lists. But, alas, there's more - plenty more. On a side note, Jeremy Larson will no longer be spearheading this feature. Now that he's become more involved with other CoS -related activities, he's decided to pass on the reins to Möhammad Choudhery. Good things lie ahead. -Winston Robbins Senior Staff [...]
