On Past, Present(s), Future (mixed by one of the greatest of all time, DJ Premier), Diggy lays down his new-school rhymes on the mixed beats of old-school classics, which, in turn, adds a new perspective to the classics and brings the tracks back into the public consciousness. Diggy goes in hard on his freestyles and proves [...]
Everyone knows that Shook Ones is a phenomenally awesome band from Bellingham, Washington, right? Well, if you don't, you should and their latest album The Unquotable AMH would be a great place to start. As part of my Fest 9 preview interview series, Kelly (who plays guitar) from Shook Ones was gracious enough answer a few of my stupid questions when he should have been doing homework. Check it out... How do you guys feel when people compare you to Kid Dynamite? [...]

We were slacking last week when it came to Throwback Thursday, and the people were pissed. The people being our 10 fans. I wanted to make sure I threw something at you all this week, so I've been digging tirelessly through the archives to come up with three prime throwback gems that you all forgot existed. All three of these jams are polar opposites of each other, yet each and every one is a banger in it's own, unique way. So let's get it: Go West - King of Wishful Thinking (1990) [...]
The Biz "I got several friends from Japan to Maryland" B.o.B announced recently that his album is dropping May 25th and then he dropped this song from the cleverly titled upcoming mixtape May 25th. For the song he remixes one of the most famous Mobb Deep instrumentals of all time in "Shook Ones" and certainly adds his [...]

So this is it. My favorite full-length albums of the year. So many other blogs post their top songs of the year, but I guess I'm a bit more old-school (and probably older) than most of them. I prefer the album format rather then just ranking singles against one another. I posted Part I of this list yesterday, but there are so many good albums from 2009 that I had to leave off the list completely (unless I was going to make it an even 100). Maybe next year, right? Also, fuck all the [...]

In my mind, Seattle's Shook Ones have always been the world's greatest Kid Dynamite tribute band despite playing (to my knowledge, at least) zero Kid Dynamite songs, but with their new album The Unquotable A.M.H. the band has moved past that despite their singer still being a dead ringer for Jason Shevchuk. Yeah, Shook Ones still play fast and melodic hardcore-influenced pop-punk with more than enough hooks and breakdowns to easily satisfy the toughest critics, but this time around it's a wee bit slower, the songs are longer, and there's a bit more melody. There is [...]
j-cole-shook-ones J. Cole hit everyone on Twitter with a ditty that didn't make his upcoming mixtape The Warm Up. Seeing as J. Cole is one of my favorite new rappers and my love for freestyles this was almost a guarantee to go up, I didnt' even have to listen to it (although I have). Cole puts [...]
[mp3] Shook Ones: "For Collards" It only took me about 12 seconds to fall in love with Shook Ones . Once the blistering tempo change kicked in during my first listen of "For Collards," and frontman Scott Freeman shouted "Independence Day!" from the back of his throat, I immediately was like, YES. It was an uncanny reminder of the very first time I was exposed to hardcore legends Lifetime in high [...]
Shook Ones record exclusive track; fight against Prop 8 Shook Ones have put up an exclusive new track available for digital download here . The song is titled " Breakfast for Dinner " and the proceeds from this song will be donated to Lambda Legal, The ACLU of California, and Equality California in hopes of contributing to the battle of overturning Proposition 8. The band comments: "Proposition 8 has officially become state sanctioned and defended discrimination with the California supreme court's 6-1 decision to [...]
Shook Ones new song "For Collards" Shook Ones are streaming a new song " For Collards " taken from their Paper + Plastick debut " The Unquotable A.M.H. " on myspace . CHECK IT OUT
Well, yesterday, I went to a wedding and I was too busy eating food to be writing.
I will keep this brief. Not much needs to be said about this remix. Shook Ones by Mobb Deep is one of the biggest Hip Hop songs to ever be released. Turning Shook Ones into an electro track is a huge undertaking, one which could result in a tremendous let down, but this remix is BOMB! It's tremendously impressive that DJ Fashen's remix does this legendary track justice. Download audio file (Mobb Deep - Shook Ones (DJ Fashen Remix).mp3) [...]

Here in Hamilton Ont. things are not as friendly as on the left coast, lets just say its colder and rougher around the edges out here. This annual trip back to the 905 has been no exception. Cruising through the city late last night I was rockin this remix of one of my favorite east coast hip hop tracks.. Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Part II An sick mash up of new and old.. fast and slow. Play it on some big speakers. [...]

I just got off the treadmill and during my little jog I was jamming out to Facetious Folly Feat the latest album from Seattle, WA's excellent Shook Ones . It is punk rock in the same vein as Kid Dynamite. In fact, some people might actually mistake this for a KD record. Simply put, the music of Shook Ones is fast with gruff and snotty vocals and filled with just enough hooks and breakdowns to get your head nodding. Seriously awesome shit here, Facetious Folly Feat is out now on Revelation Records plus [...]
