Photo By Matt Gill Fresh off a punishingly heavy set opening for Comadre recently at Sub-Mission, Loma Prieta continue to roll in 2013; the foursome have announced shows up and down the California coast, along with an opening slot for Deathwish labelmates Touché Amoré on their Japanese tour. Loma Prieta's 2012 LP, I.V. , was to my ears one of the best releases of the year, regardless of genre. With that in mind, don't miss Loma Prieta's two Bay [...]

King Dude and Chelsea Wolfe are kicking off 2013 with an acoustic tour that runs through January. If you missed Wolfe's acoustic show at Rickshaw Stop in September, don't skip out on this chance to catch the songstress and her bandmates perform unplugged at Great American Music Hall this Friday, January 11th. The former Bay Area resident (now based in Los Angeles) will be joined by Seattleite King Dude, so expect a night of darkly spiritual and deeply enchanting folk-rock from these two singer-songwriter-guitarist acts. Wolfe has [...]

DSTVV just released a seizure-inducing video for their track "Molly Soda", and like all things DSTVV, it's bizarre, lo-fi, and kind of hilarious all at the same time. The video is directed by Jack Cusumano , the brother of DSTVV frontman Joel Cusumano, and features clips of GIFs "curated" from Joel's tumblr, blameaspartame . The track is an homage to Molly Soda , a major figure in the odd world of odd tumblrs who Joel tells me "was a perfect subject for a slacker anthem." DSTVV will play the Hemlock February 1st along with [...]

As someone who dabbles in the accordionistic arts (by the way, did I mention how cool I am? ), I may get a little testy with you if you suggest to me that accordions are nothing but loud, obnoxious noise machines. I mean, they can be, if that’s what you’re going for, but accordions are far more versatile instruments than people give them credit for. Walt McClements, known for his participation in such projects as Dark Dark Dark and Why Are We Building Such a Big Ship? , seems like a man who understands [...]

BAGeL Radio is moving into double digits, and the man behind the vision, Ted Leibowitz, is throwing one helluva party. The host of the Glen Park-based indie rock Internet radio show recruited three great Bay Area acts – Mister Loveless , Churches , and Birdmonster – to help celebrate his baby's tenth birthday at Bottom of the Hill on Friday, February 1st. The show is being produced in conjunction with SomaFM , the "listener-supported, commercial-free, underground/alternative" Internet radio station that [...]

San Francisco's Adam Widener , who once played bass for Bare Wires , is set to release a new EP Gimmee Gimmee Scientific Stuff on January 22nd. A vinyl copy of this album would make a sweet addition to your collection even if it wasn't full of catchy, high-energy garage pop. The album cover is actually an old school 3D image designed by Widener, and the red and blue translucent vinyl functions as 3D glasses. Although the album isn't officially out until the 22nd, you can order it now from the Sexy [...]

Matt Adams is throwing his proverbial hat back in the ring, dropping two new tracks from The Blank Tapes just before Christmas. Produced by Raymond Richards at L.A.'s Red Rockets Glare studio, these "secret singles" (as Adams dubbed them in a not-so-secret Facebook post ) are entitled "Mr. Mister" and "1,000 Leather Tassels" and dole out two more doses of Adams' potent brand of lo-fi indie rock. The first track features Richards manning the Wurlitzer, bringing a jangily, O.G. '50s rock and roll element to the mix, while the latter is [...]

San Francisco indie-pop three-piece Geographer is hitting the road in January, touring much of the western United States with Chicago's ON AN ON , which features three former members of Scattered Trees. The tour kicks off January 12th at Portland's Doug Fir Lounge, then weaves around the country, eventually finding its way to The Fillmore on January 31st before wrapping the next night in L.A. This western leg is a continuation of Geographer's touring in support of their 2012 album MYTH , released via Modern Art Records. [...]

Fever Charm of Oakland (above) is releasing their aptly titled album West Coast Rock And Roll at a show at Bottom of the Hill Saturday night, atop a fun, all-local bill. Joining Fever Charm will be San Francisco's False Priest (the solo project of Evan Greenwald of Handshake ), which will be releasing their debut album Uncanny Valley . It's an all ages show, but keep that teenage angst at home, as these two bands make alternative rock and roll that is more fun than anything. [...]

Assuming a meteor doesn't obliterate Earth or the ice caps don't flood us out, you're invited to spend New Year's Eve at the Southgate House Revival. All three rooms will host the 10-band lineup headlined by The Pinstripes. Personally, I can't think of a better place to spend NYE than with The Pinstripes, The Guitars, Green Room Rockers, The Mudpies, The Frankl Project, Homemade Drugs, Mardou, Quailbones, The Yugos, and Molly Sullivan. I wonder if I'll survive into the new year if I do a Holy Roller shot between every set. Tickets are available [...]

The fifth annual FMLY FEST LA is right around the corner, taking place December 29th and 30th down in the City of Angels. NorCal acts Religious Girls , Pregnant , and Diesel Dudes are on the bill, along with over 50 other L.A. and national artists. If you haven't heard of the collaborative arts festival, don't worry. This D.I.Y., or D.I.T. (do-it-together) event is meant to foster the growth of communities, as opposed to advertising and self-promotion. [...]

Native sons of Memphis Lucero are making their way out west as part of their lengthy Spring Tour 2013, including a stop at San Francisco's legendary Fillmore on April 12th. After a handful of warmup shows in and around Texas, the 31-date tour kicks off in March at Charlottesville, Virginia's Jefferson Theater (which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2012) and winds through the States and southern Canada before wrapping up with two May shows in Kentucky. The Fillmore gig marks the country-punk outfit's return to the famed venue a mere 13 months after they [...]
Date 12/21/12 Location The Parish Doors 8pm Tickets $24 It's the end of the world as we know it and what better way to go out than spending your last night on Earth at the Parish. Well, technically it's not the "end" of the world, but the "Beginning of the World" according to the folks from Re-evolution Media . They have put together a great lineup of musicians and performance artists to celebrate the new [...]

Last Friday, The Soft White Sixties posted a new single to Bandcamp , the grooving and bluesy R&B track "Chew Toy", which premiered on Live 105 back in early November. The band previously offered the song as a free download via their own site , available only to those that learned the password either at a show or through following San Francisco's premier soul outfit on Facebook . Below, stream and download "Chew Toy" (via Bandcamp), and then check out info on The Soft White Sixties' live [...]
Pancho-san has released a video for the track "A Fool, A Fall, A Foal" off their latest LP, Americans . It was premiered by Magnet Magazine earlier this month, but you can peep it above. There's a good reason why Patrick Abernethy, Pancho-san singer/guitarist, sent me the video for posting here on The Bay Bridged. Most of the footage from the video was shot at a show I put together down in Austin, TX a couple years ago during SXSW. It was shot by Olivia Parriott, whom [...]

With his two fellow VOWS members now living in L.A., Luke Sweeney was forced to take matters into his own hands, and I mean that pretty literally – Sweeney recorded a solo album, the just-released Ether Ore , playing almost all of the instruments himself. Give it a listen: Ether Ore by Luke Sweeney Sweeney put together a band called Wet Dreams Dry Magic and played a string of shows throughout the fall, including a November residency [...]
