The Chills loved their leather jackets and probably took really good care of theirs. Listening Super Vacations ' ode to their leather jackets, Faded Leather Jacket, it is more heathen, but no less vital. On LP number three the Super Vacations blow the roof off it. What is "it?" It could be a car, house, office, lean-to, or bus-stop. It doesn't matter, you will get the same result. Roof blown off. The Richmond, Virginia band work with some pretty basic elements but prove that magic happens. Lots of fuzzy, chiming and angular guitars and [...]
Although we can't usually muster much excitement for tribute albums, we have to hand it to Just Tell Me That You Want Me , the indie-rock tribute to Fleetwood Mac that comes out August 14th. In streaming many of its tracks over the course of several weeks, it's convinced us it's worth our time. So far, our favorites have been Antony Hegarty's delicate take on "Landslide," Lykke Li's icily enchanted "Silver Springs," and The New Pornographers' raucous, synthy "Think About Me." Today, we're adding a new highlight to that [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: So if you're a ex-metal head what do you do after lighting strikes you and you are enlightened? One thing is you make a record called we are night sky and you call the band deadboy & the Elephantmen . The main dude Dax Riggs (what rock minikor) was in the slowcore metal band Acid Bath and the rock anthem group Agents of Oblivion before deadboy came together. However, the metamorphosis happened we don't care because this is a great heaven and hell themed record that marks [...]
Shudder to Think "X-French Tee Shirt" The first time I ever heard "X-French Tee Shirt" I was 15-years-old and listening to a local alt-rock radio station in 1994. The station was doing this thing where they would debut a song and listeners could call in to say whether or not it should go into rotation. I was immediately impressed by the tune. Even after all these years, a lot of the charm in the song lies in how it sounds like a big arena rock number thrown off balance, but to my young ears it seemed [...]

Much of the nation, most especially the mid-west and the south, have been trapped under a dome of extreme heat for the past month or so, while the Northeast has been dipping in and out of excessive temperatures for weeks. Here in the west, we've had a mild summer with below average temperatures for most [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

- Craig Wedren , is set to release WAND , which will be an album and film. Since departing the 902s punk act, Shudder to Think , the former front man has released two solo albums and scored several films and television shows (e.g., Role Models, School of Rock, Reno 911, United States of Tara). In an interview with Spin , Wedren explains that WAND represents an inversion of the scoring process as the narrative images are built around music. You can watch the video for We Are on [...]

Tirant [...]

Whoa. Though there are plenty of cool videos out there, "Are We" from Craig Wedren (ex-frontman of Shudder to Think ) truly wows us. Usually we embed a video right on this page, but for "Are We" it would simply be impossible. There's an interactive element that allows the viewer to turn the camera around a full 360 degrees (though there are a few points which seem to be problematic, like if you look all the way down). View it here .
"We are all born insane," ex-Shudder to Think frontman Craig Wedren sings in his new song "Are We" — an interesting hypthesis, to be sure — but if that isn't the case then the video for the song might make you a little crazy. The 360-degree, interactive movie for the song, the work of Tim Nackashi (who's done visuals for OK Go and Gnarls Barkley), debuted today on Wedren's website. By moving your cursor across the panorama, the viewer is transported through various whimsical worlds. The song, which features background vocals from Conor Oberst and Janet [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive Sneak Attack Media Like many without emotional ties to either competing team, ex- Shudder to Think frontman Craig Wedren still has an opinion as to who he hopes will win this year's Super Bowl. And, as you'll see below, he has a rather politically sound reason for his pick. It's a reason far more grounded than mere proximity and geography -- but, when asked about his favorite sports team, Wedren [...]

The Forms have a new EP called Derealization . As we previously reported , the EP features remixes made with some of the bands' friends, including: Matt Berninger of The National , Craig Wedren of Shudder To Think , Nat Baldwin of Dirty Projectors , Daniel Hart of St. Vincent 's band, and Andrew Thiboldeaux of Pattern is Movement . Threespheres and Ernest Jenning will be releasing the EP on February 15th along with a repressing of [...]

Craig Wedren of Shudder to Think has had an OK year by anyone's standards. He released The Spanish Amnesian , scored the sophomore season of Hung , performed chamber compositions with the ACME orchestra and toured with Greg Dulli. And evidently he's not letting the calendar flipping to 2011 slow him down, as he is dropping hints at a major announcement regarding his WAND multimedia project soon after the holiday. Out of the kindness of his heart, Wedren has also cooked up a little holiday goodie for [...]
I'll make this brief: I had not listened to The Dismemberment Plan until 2006. My friend gave me a copy of Emergency and I, and I could not stop listening to it for a month. Better yet, it rekindled my interested in Q and Not U, Shudder to Think, Fugazi, and all others things that could be labeled as having a distinctly "D.C. Sound". It remains, to date, my favorite regional sound. (That's right,
The Forms , a New York-based indie rock duo, started the day off of my proverbial radar. But after announcing an EP featuring vocals by Matt B erninger ( The National ), Andrew Thiboldeaux ( Pattern Is Movement ), and C raig Wedren ( Shudder To Think ), they have created a sizable blip. Since forming in 2003, Alex Tween (vox, keyboards) and Matt Walsh [...]

Vocalist/keyboardist Alex Tween and multi-instrumentalist Matt Walsh a/k/a The Forms have a new EP called Derealization . The project was spawned after the duo spent an afternoon listening to the vinyl of their self-titled album at different speeds. The decision was made on the spot to do a "remix" album. Once they started working on it, Tween and Walsh teamed up with a bunch of their friends to completely reconceptualized a number of their older songs from the bottom up. Derealization was recorded at Walsh’s studio in Ridgewood with the help of [...]

In the alternate universe that holds underground rock 'n' roll music in its loving embrace, there is the equivalent of a Great American Songbook. And in that songbook there are many, many tracks written by Greg Dulli . The former Afghan Whigs fronter, now helming Twilight Singers but performing largely acoustic last night with two sidemen, enthralled the fortunate packed into a sold-out, 235-capacity movie theater, sharing a career-spanning set that was only upstaged by the man's rapier wit. Dulli recounted having seen the film "Kiss Of The Spiderwoman" at the same theater on a [...]
Louisville's Coliseum has a new album, House With a Curse , out today. And in honor of the hellacious record's release, frontman Ryan Patterson is taking the reigns of Buzzgrinder today. This video has circulated around on the VHS trader circuit for over twenty years now, I was very excited to get a DVD copy recently. When people talk about "heavy" music these days, they are way off base. This is what heavy means to me. Ignition guitarist Chris Bald [...]
