Who would have thought that the music world could ever get invaded by a bearded icelandic music teacher at an elementary school in Reykjavik? BORKO alias Björn Kristjánsson and his first album Celebrating Life (via Morr Music and Kimi Records 2008) showed that this is nothing of the impossible. His like childish fun appearing bland
Iceland is a bijou country built upon an infrastructure of inaccurate information that many tend to misinterpret. Those who envision Iceland picture a magical fairyland full of curious creatures, and associate their music based on what they've heard from Björk and artists alike. While it's hard to define the Icelandic music style, many artists have come to embrace a sonic similarity falling under a more natural, orchestral genre. Defining a country so foreign to many is hard to do, but digging into their musical archives definitely helps us understand and appreciate the magic they harbor so magnificently. [...]

A strong, passionate track from the new Defense Family 73, which was recorded in Iceland at a studio owned by Sigur Ros, and the session was even engineered by the band's frontman, Jón Þór Birgisson. Now the song itself delivers SDF's usual combo of loud guitars with a harmonious edge, and the stellar vocals of Patrick Kindlon. Yeah, he's not exactly singing in a traditional sense, but his hybrid of spoken word and emotional shouts are pretty gripping, so are the lyrics. Damn, the story on this track is depressing. Rehab, drugs. It sounds like a terrible, scarring [...]
Four years after their last LP, Sigur Rós finally released their new album Valtari (which literally translates to "steamroller") last May 29th via XL Recordings. To spice things up a little, lead singer Jónsi Birgisson and his mates launched the Valtari mystery film experiment. To put it simply, the band asked a dozen film makers to create short films representing whatever came to their mind when they listened to songs from album, and all this with a strictly limited budget. The video for the entrancingly [...]

Sigur Rós , you can say is the one of the biggest act coming out of Iceland at the moment right after Björk. Today's the day that Sigur Rós drops their highly anticipated album. It's been four years since they released Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly). Valtari translated as "Steamroller" is their sixth studio album. Comes as a surprised for most fans since they announced they were going on hiatus and Jónsi busy on his solo material. [...]
A new Sigur Rós record. The world has waited four long years for just that. In 2009, they claimed to have another record almost ready, but it was supposedly scrapped, and as of the beginning of 2010 the band were assumed to be on indefinite hiatus as frontman Jónsi launched his solo career. For almost two years following that there was very little word from Sigur Rós . Anything they might have been doing was kept well under wraps. Then, they suddenly released "Inni" , a [...]
I never seem to be amazed more by a single artist then Sigur Rós. Their music has always thrown me for a loop and has given me a listening experience like no other artist can deliver. Take a listen below to the newest song 'Ég anda' which is taken from their upcoming album Valtari. Valtari is set to release on May 29th. Valtari Tracklisting: 1. Ég Anda 2. Ekki Múkk 3. Varúð [...]
Sigur Ros tend to match their beautiful, surreal compositions with equally stunning videos. The Icelandic dream weavers' visual treatments for songs like "Glosoli" and "Hoppipola" rank, at least personally, among some of the best videos produced in recent years. The band's latest for "Ég Anda," a track off their new album Valtari , takes on a far more experimental tone. Directed by Ragnar Kjartansson as the first of a 12-part "mystery film experiment," the video is an odd, disturbing, but ultimately educational primer on how to save a choking victim. Check out [...]

All good things come in threes. Our third pick for Record Store Day 2012 is the 10-inch limited edition 'Ekki Múkk' vinyl, with exclusive b-side 'Kvistur'. Like Beach House , this won't be appearing on the forthcoming Sigur Rós album Valtari . Apparently you can play it backwards. Upwards. Inwards or outwards. Or just plain old fashioned forwards. -James Godwin, April 23rd, 2012 Related articles [...]

Sigur Rós have recently announced details about their sixth studio album Valtari. You can listen to the first track to be released from Valtari, Ekki Múkk in the embedded Vimeo video below. Ekki Múkk loosely translates into english as 'Not Seagull'. "i really can’t remember why we started this record, i no longer know what we were trying to do back then. i do know session after session went pear-shaped, we lost focus and almost gave up...did give up for a while. but then something happened and form started to emerge, and now i [...]
To everyone's excitement yesterday, including mine, Sigur Ros dropped a release date for a new album along with a track from said album. The LP's title is Valtari , and it's looking at a May release. The teaser track, "Ekki Múkk," is contained in the video above, and it's a bit of a stunner. I'm not sure if we're still using the phrase "post-rock" to describe this band, but if we are, the crescendos they pump out are still some of the best in the genre. The rising and falling strings and vocals on this track are [...]

OMG!! New track from Sigur Ros . Ekki Múkk is taken from the upcoming album "Valtari" which on May 28th (May 29th North America). Listening to the 7:45 minute track, I feel like this track reminds me from the ( ) era. Its so haunting that it makes me want to cry!! Have a listen to Ekki Múkk . I hope to see them at Osheaga 2012!!!

Sóley "I'll Drown" "You'll never escape from this sad, sad house, I take his hand, we sink. I'll drown when I see you, I'll drown when I see you, I'll drown when I see you, I do." I'm sure everyone's heard an example of the "individual parts combining to make something greater" lesson. The one [...]

While we wait breathlessly for a new Sigur Rós record. Word has it that the new album will come out in 2012. For now the band just dropped their first live album on November 15, 2011 called Inni. Inni is also a live theatrical concert and being shown in various small theatres. (Hopefully Bytowne Cinema or Mayfair theatre will show it) The concert was recorded at England's Alexandra Palace in 2008. If you haven't seen a Sigur Rós show. You definitely have to [...]
