Sigur Rós are returning with a new album this year titled Kveikur , only a year since last year's Valtari. It will come out June 18 via X.L. Recordings . Sadly, the band is now a three-piece, as Kjartan Sveinsson has left the band. A new album announcement is well timed, as I am seeing the band for the first time (full performance wise) tonight at MSG. The band released a new song called "Brennisteinn" which will appear on the album, and definitely lives up to the promise that their material has a more aggressive [...]

Japan is still deep in recovery from the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated the north-eastern part of the country two years ago. Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]

Around this time last year we featured a video entitled "Boxcar Fair" that showcased a collaboration between Atlanta's Little Tybee and kinetic sculptor Tom Haney . Haney has returned with a new video called " Home ." This time the musical accompaniment comes from Jónsi , the singer and guitarist best known for his work with Icelandic post-rock outfit Sigur Rós. It's a solo track entitled "Helinglás" that finds Jónsi's abandoning signature falsetto for a more reserved tenor set against lush arrangements on strings. The video for " Home " is much less complex than "Boxcar [...]
![[watch]: Sigur Ros: Leaning Toward Solace](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4662611_lg.jpg)
The final film in Sigur Ros' Valtari Mystery Film Experiment is a beauty. It's a short film titled "Leaning Toward Solace" which is directed by Floria Sigismondi, and features the super-talented John Hawkes and Elle Fanning. The short film features a combination of "Dauoalogn" and "Varuo". The film itself is totally worth the watch, as if Sigur Ros' poetic music wasn't enough of an attraction. Check it out below.
