Watch David Byrne and Sigur Rós’ animated videos for Japanese tsunami benefit

Watch David Byrne and Sigur Rós’ animated videos for Japanese tsunami benefit Japan is still deep in recovery from the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated the north-eastern part of the country two years ago. As the people there continue to rebuild, David Byrne and Sigur Rós have teamed with Zapuni, a charity organization that brings together visual artists from Japan and musicians from around the world, for a pair of animated videos benefiting children impacted by the disaster. In the first video, Byrne revisits a tune he co-penned with Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto for the latter's 1994 record Sweet Revenge . Entitled "Psychedelic Afternoon", [...]

Watch Sigur Rós perform new songs live in concert

Watch Sigur Rós perform new songs live in concert Sigur Rós made good on their promise to debut new music at the start of their latest tour in Europe this week. Below, you can watch fan footage of the newly-configured trio performing three songs titled, "Kveikur", "Yfirborð", and "Hrafntinna". In a note posted on their website earlier in the week, the band said the new material would be be accompanied by "new visuals, new lights and new stage set, and not forgetting a new player (welcome ingrid on viola)." However, as they were sure to note, "the only way you’re going to [...]

Sigur Rós announce plans for new album, preview a new song

Sigur Rós announce plans for new album, preview a new song Sigur Rós is currently in the middle of a Reddit AMA right now, answering questions about their new, perhaps untitled seventh studio LP, which the band would like to trend as #SR7 . They have released a preview of new material on their website and it is easily the heaviest, gnarliest thing Sigur Rós has done since their debut album Vón , and even then it doesn't really compare. Listen to the preview below. Some more updates: Founding member and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson has left the group, effectively making the band a trio. Of [...]

Sigur Rós - Leaning Towards Solace (Music Video)

Sigur Rós - Leaning Towards Solace (Music Video) It finally happened. The Valtari Mystery Film Experiment that has been going on for over half of the year has finally come to an end. What started out as a playful instructional video on how to save someone's life while they were choking, to seeing Shia Lebeouf's flacid hog now comes to a conclusion with "Leaning Towards Solace". And with the conclusion it seems as if they saved the best for last. What plays out as more of a mini film, the new visuals take the songs "Dauðalogn" and "Varúð", [...]

Video: Sigur Rós debuts new song, “Brennisteinn”

Video: Sigur Rós debuts new song, “Brennisteinn” Sigur Rós performed in their native Iceland for the first time in four years Sunday night and they marked the occasion by debuting a brand new song. Coming just six months after the release of Valtari , "Brennisteinn" packs an urgent drive of industrialism stemming from squonking,  mechanical synths that plod through a web of strings. That might sound like a mess,  but Jónsi chimes in unscathed with dovetailing vocals that resonate as quickly as they tear apart. Buy Valtari [...]

Sigur Rós - Ég anda (Official Video)

Sigur Rós - Ég anda (Official Video) Five videos into Sigur Rós' Valtari Mystery Film Experiment and there is finally one that I understand and relate to. It is essentially how I feel every time I listen to a Sigur Rós song. It just feels like life is going in slow motion and that is exactly what this new video for "Ég anda" portrays. Directed by Ramin Bahrani, I have to say that this video has to be my favorite of the bunch so far. Check it out and see for yourself below. [...]

Sigur Rós – Fjögur píanó – new video

Sigur Rós - Fjögur píanó
Fancy watching a very odd (albeit slightly pretentious) music video? Fancy watching one that features a semi-naked Shia LaBeouf ? Check this out then: The video is directed by award winning Israeli documentary film-maker, Alma Har'el and Fjögur píanó is taken from Sigur Rós ' Valtari album - which you buy here .

Sigur Ros – Varuo – new video

Sigur Rós - Varúð
I guess I should be blathering on about the beef between Erykah Badu and Wayne Coyne - but I'm presuming everybody's blogging about that right now and I was bored by the 200th tweet I'd read about it. So, instead, here's a rather beautiful and delightfully minimilistic new video from Sig ur Ros . The song's called Varuo: [...]

Sigur Rós - Ég anda (Official Video)

Sigur Rós - Ég anda (Official Video) Sigur Rós decided to take on a slightly different concept when creating their videos for songs on their forthcoming valtari album by giving a dozen independent film makers a small budget and complete creative freedom to create whatever comes to mind when they listen to songs off of the new album. And now today we have our first taste of what this project will be like by getting a video for "Ég anda", which is essentially an educational video on the hazards of choking and the proper techniques used to help the victim to stop choking. [...]

” We've got ourselves a brand new track from the forthcoming Sigur Rós album, Valtari , for you to check out. It's called "Varúð

" and please don't ever ask me to pronounce that word...or spell it for that matter. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Make your way over to the Hype Machine to stream this pretty track. Valtari will be released on May 29th and it'll be the band's sixth studio album.

Monday Bears: New Sigur Rós - Varúð

Monday Bears: New Sigur Rós - Varúð A few weeks back, we heard our first bit of Sigur Rós ' upcoming Valtari album, which has quickly become the next most anticipated album of 2012, with the seven minute-plus "Ekki Múkk." Today, we get "Varúð," a much shorter cut, which premiered on Shaun Keaveny's BBC Radio 6 show. Listen below.

Sigur Ros – ‘Ekki múkk’

Sigur Rós - Ekki múkk
A serene blast of melancholic resplendence courtesy of everyone's favourite instrumental Icelanders. It's easy to be cynical about Sigur Ros . Their ever-present reach for celestial heavenly sounds can be easy to disregard but it's hard not to be drawn by its beauty. 'Ekki múkk' is taken from the band's first new album proper since 2008. It's entitled Valtari , features the seven tracks outlined below and is out on May 28th on XL. Sigur Ros are playing Electric Picnic and Berlin Music Festival , Bestival amongst others [...]

New(!) Sigur Ros - Ekki Múkk

New(!) Sigur Ros - Ekki Múkk After scheduling a few spring/summer shows, the expected announcement of Sigur Ros ' newest album is finally here. The Iceland icons will release Valtari May 28, which has pretty easily become my most anticipated album of 2012 so far. It'll be the first new album from the band, which took a short hiatus a few years back, since 2008. And unlike the previous album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust , the new album will not have parts in English. Listen/watch " Ekki Múkk," the band's first new song in too long, below.
