A handful of big tracks have been released in the last fews days from forthcoming albums. The new record from Sigur Rós 'Kveikur' is sounding very strong, following 'Brennistein' we have their latest tune called 'Ísjaki' (I don't even try to pronounce these things anymore!) After the departure of band member Kjartan Sveinsson, who joined the band on keyboards in 1998 as the only band member with any sort of formal musical training, Sigur Rós are set to release the newest, far more uptempo LP Kveikur . The release isn't until June 18 on XL , but the band has released the second official single from the follow up to last year's excellent Valtari , with "Ísjaki." Sigur Rós made their first television appearance in nearly a decade on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night. The Icelandic trio debuted the title track to their newly announced album Kveikur accompanied by string and horn players. Watch the video replay below. Kveikur arrives June 18th via XL Recordings. Just 14 months after the release of Valtari , Sigur Rós will return with a new studio album. Kveikur , described the band as "more aggressive" than their previous work, will see release on June 18th through their new label, XL Recordings. It marks the band's seventh album, and first since the departure of multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson. Japan is still deep in recovery from the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated the north-eastern part of the country two years ago. As the people there continue to rebuild, David Byrne and Sigur Rós have teamed with Zapuni, a charity organization that brings together visual artists from Japan and musicians from around the world, for a pair of animated videos benefiting children impacted by the disaster. Sigur Rós made good on their promise to debut new music at the start of their latest tour in Europe this week. It finally happened. The Valtari Mystery Film Experiment that has been going on for over half of the year has finally come to an end. What started out as a playful instructional video on how to save someone's life while they were choking, to seeing Shia Lebeouf's flacid hog now comes to a conclusion with "Leaning Towards Solace". Sigur Rós performed in their native Iceland for the first time in four years Sunday night and they marked the occasion by debuting a brand new song. Coming just six months after the release of Valtari , "Brennisteinn" packs an urgent drive of industrialism stemming from squonking,  mechanical synths that plod through a web of strings. Five videos into Sigur Rós' Valtari Mystery Film Experiment and there is finally one that I understand and relate to. It is essentially how I feel every time I listen to a Sigur Rós song. It just feels like life is going in slow motion and that is exactly what this new video for "Ég anda" portrays. Sigur Rós decided to take on a slightly different concept when creating their videos for songs on their forthcoming valtari album by giving a dozen independent film makers a small budget and complete creative freedom to create whatever comes to mind when they listen to songs off of the new album. And now today we have our first taste of what this project will be like by getting a video for "Ég anda", which is essentially an educational video on the hazards of choking and the proper techniques used to help the victim to stop choking. " and please don't ever ask me to pronounce that word...or spell it for that matter. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Make your way over to the Hype Machine to stream this pretty track. Valtari will be released on May 29th and it'll be the band's sixth studio album.

A serene blast of melancholic resplendence courtesy of everyone's favourite instrumental Icelanders. It's easy to be cynical about Sigur Ros . Their ever-present reach for celestial heavenly sounds can be easy to disregard but it's hard not to be drawn by its beauty. 'Ekki múkk' is taken from the band's first new album proper since 2008. It's entitled Valtari , features the seven tracks outlined below and is out on May 28th on XL. Sigur Ros are playing Electric Picnic and Berlin Music Festival , Bestival amongst others [...]

After scheduling a few spring/summer shows, the expected announcement of Sigur Ros ' newest album is finally here. The Iceland icons will release Valtari May 28, which has pretty easily become my most anticipated album of 2012 so far. It'll be the first new album from the band, which took a short hiatus a few years back, since 2008. And unlike the previous album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust , the new album will not have parts in English. Listen/watch " Ekki Múkk," the band's first new song in too long, below.
