Sigur Ros are gearing up to release a new record, Valtari , in late May, but they found time to put together a Record Store Day release too. We’ve already heard the a-side, first Valtari single “Ekki Mukk,” and now you can sample the non-album b-side “Kvistur” too. For those of you who are into the band’s more experimental stuff, you’ve found a goldmine – atmospheric, sublime, distorted drones build to massive crescendos and then crash deliriously into the abyss. The good vibes just keep on rolling after a weekend of vinyl lovers the world over comes to a close. Sigur Rós were another band to put out a limited run for Record Store Day and they chose to put out "Ekki Múkk" which came nicely packaged with an featured an unheard track by the name of, "Kvistur". A beautiful track from a beautiful band and on a plus note, "Kvistur" won't feature on their upcoming release in May, Valtari . Check it out below.

Now that the sneak attack is complete, I can talk about Sigur Rós coming to the Mann Music Center this summer. The show is taking place on July 30th, a couple months after they release their new studio album valtari . "Kvistur" is a b-side for the 103 vinyl released this past Saturday for Record Store Day. I haven't seen an MP3 posted anywhere, but you can stream the track below. The special release also included the single from valtari , "Ekki Mukk" . No English translation necessary.

Iceland's resident love-them-or-hate-them band Sigur Ros have announced their sixth studio album to be released on the 28th of May. 'Valteri' will be their first album since their well received 'Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust' in 2008. To accompany the announcement, Sigur Ros have released the lead single from the record, 'Ekki múkk'. It's a 7-minute long track that's distinctly recognisable as Sigur Ros, despite being a million miles away from the brash pop of 'Takk'. To everyone's excitement yesterday, including mine, Sigur Ros dropped a release date for a new album along with a track from said album. The LP's title is Valtari , and it's looking at a May release. The teaser track, "Ekki Múkk," is contained in the video above, and it's a bit of a stunner. I'm not sure if we're still using the phrase "post-rock" to describe this band, but if we are, the crescendos they pump out are still some of the best in the genre. Jónsi, the singer of the Icelandic band Sigur Rós has recently written the score for the film 'We Bought A Zoo'. The soundtrack to the film contains two original songs by Jónsi, Ævin Endar and Gathering Stories which you can listen to now on Jónsi's site . We Bought A Zoo stars Matt Damon alongside Scarlett Johansson and is about a family that use their life savings to buy a rundown zoo in the English countryside. "Gathering Stories" is one of two new songs Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi wrote with film director Cameron Crowe ( Almost Famous ) for his new feel-good family flick We Bought a Zoo , starring Matt Damon and Scarlet Johannson. "Lúppulagið" is the gorgeous and reverent previously unreleased studio offering included in Sigur Rós' new live album and concert film, Inni , out next Tuesday, November 15th. Even without Jonsí's signature, life-affirming falsetto, the emotional depth of this band's work seems limitless. On November 8th, Icelandic band Sigur Rós will be releasing INNI , the live companion album to their Vincent Morisset-direct concert film. The limited edition release of the album will include a previously unreleased track titled "Lúppulagið," which has made its way online prior to its release next week. You can stream the song below. Remember that weird and mysterious video we got from Sigur Ros titled " Klippa "? Well it turns out the material being cut in said video is part of the history of the upcoming live film. The clothing is to be included in the special edition of the release and be a "unique concert artefact". Tweet Ray Levinson-Fort, aka Selva Oscura, was brought to my attention when a few of my favorite blogs were favoriting his music on Soundcloud. I was immediately taken by my now favorite track of his, "Mid Spring": a mezmerizingly drippy melody, ending a nostalgic rave beat. No group can call itself something like A Lull and keep an entirely straight face. You'd expect the name to be deceptive and you'd be right. "Confetti", the name of their debut album released last week, does a much better job of capturing what this Chicago quintet is all about: these guys write colourful tracks, thick with percussion and bristling with energy.
