Scan "Self-Portrait with Sheila " by me Howdy kiddos! How the fuck are ya? Me? Well just dandy dandy, thank you for asking... As many of you know, I've been a busy boy over at tsurufoto , takin' lots of pictures, starting a nudie blog , and, of course, running the #1 nudiezine in the world ! I've taken quite a hiatus from "new music" for a few months and I [...]

It finally happened. Winter arrived. Snow fell and we woke up this past Sunday with about three inches of the stuff. I'm glad it didn't arrive earlier, as Friday saw me at KSVR for a four hour stint of music. The first two hours flirted with folk music and the latter half was full-on garage rock, garage pop and psychedelic pop. Much of the 10 to midnight show came courtesy Finest Kiss , who posted some great 2011 lists. Taking [...]

by Jesse Jarnow There's no real sport in arguing the semeticism of David Berman, who named his band the Silver Jews, and very publicly rediscovered Judaism himself after becoming sober around 2004. "Ain'tcha heard the news? Adam and Eve were Jews," he'd sung on 2005's Tanglewood Numbers. When the 15-year running outfit started to perform live for the first time in 2006, Berman brought them to Israel, where he was filmed at the Wailing Wall, wearing tefillin and weeping. One doesn't have to go hunting for it. Unlike Bob Dylan or Lou Reed or Neil [...]

I figured with my previous show being devoted to songs that remind me of sleep, this one would be the opposite. After a few bouts of standard indie rock, things got thick and loud. A shout out to my buddy Brett, for tuning in from Sedro-Woolley. Next time I'll have to add Tullycraft to the list in honor of how we met. The show began with a song off one of my desert island top 5 albums, and ended with a track that's nearly thirty years old. [...]
Sunsettes are a Tampa-based duo specializing in funk-tinged indie-rock. Comprised of Nathan Kozyra and Michael Schlein, Sunsettes quietly released their debut Coup de Grace last December. Their compositions are frequently led by acoustics and keys, with Kozyra assuming a vocal delivery incorporating both stream-of-conscious narratives and straightforward romantic metaphors. Although the instrumental arsenal is mainly [...]

Silver Jews — Trains Across the Sea From Starlite Walker ( Drag City ; 1994) In 27 years I've drunk 50,000 beers / And they just wash against me like the sea into a pier

( Sad Songs & Waltzes is a recurring feature on Muzzle of Bees, where artists share their favorite sad songs. Previous contributors include Megafaun , Delta Spirit , Damien Jurado , Sharon Van Etten , Over The Rhine , Conrad Plymouth , Frontier Ruckus , Strand of Oaks , and Roadside Graves .) I met Giorgio Angelini several years ago during SXSW while he was playing with The Rosebuds . We reconnected this past March and he shared with me his new material under the [...]
Lloyd Cole first made a name for himself in 1984 with the Commotions, the British band he founded in Scotland before relocating to New York City four years later. Since, he has released records both as a solo artist and with the Negatives. Now based in western Massachusetts, Cole recently formed the Small Ensemble. The [...]
![[co-premiere] pacific pride//yankee soda](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3330216_lg.jpg)
Pacific Pride is a pack of musicians ranging from yacht-pop to psychedelic and experimental, namely Tennis drummer John Barone, Robert Ballentyne from Tjutjuna, Germaine Baca from Old Time Relijun , with the main songwriting duties taken by Paul Garcia. There are certainly influences of yesteryear from bands like Silver Jews and Pavement . Even the song title "Yankee Soda" looks like a track off American Water, but where Berman/Malkmus remained uniform, Pacific Pride jams out. Pacific Pride - Yankee Soda Vamping In The Key Of Niche 7-inch EP [...]

artist paul wagner is imagining the many ways to kill the twitter fail whale. i suggested that an assailant smothered the big fish with an over-sized pillow during a lover's tryst gone a-rye. seems plausible. submit yours here . Silver Jews "My Pillow Is The Threshold"

Any surprise that's it's by Dave Berman, former Silver Jews, who is now an Aeschylus & Amp; Blake quoting blogger? Check it out . (Thanks to http://neonmusicalinsight.com/ for the heads up)

I was lucky enough to get to see the silver jews in concert on their last tour. It was an amazing show that ended in one of the craziest ways. (If you'd like to know the story, ask, and maybe I'll get to it in the comment section). I found out a few months later that they were calling it quits and it made me sad as hell. So here are 9 tracks, 1 from each of their albums and a few from some 7-inches and EP's. Enjoy! 01 silver jews - canada [...]
MP3: Silver Jews - Punks in the Beerlight I do miss the Silver Jews , but it never did get stale and the output left behind is genius. One of my favourite standouts is "Tanglewood Numbers" opener "Punks in the Beerlight". It's just perfect... ...As is it's music video, a mindfuck collage of clips from 1970's seminal sequel Beneath the Planet of the Apes.

Party, party at Mackerel Mansions. Actually, we don't live in a mansion and the party is at some Mexican place in Oxford. Riva riva! The whole gang will be there and hopefully we'll toast key 2010 moments in the time-honoured fashion. Undoubtedly there will also be some lively debate over top ten contenders for 2010… At least we won't be near a photocopier for MM to photocopy his arse. Skål. Mrs Mackerel Download The Silver Jews - Party Barge mp3 (from Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea). Enjoy a little bit of black humour [...]
I love you from something that's... not the max, forward to the max. Apparently Les Savy did a bunch of videos for The Mahogany Sessions back in September. Thanks to my friend Farrah for passing these my way. In addition to "Appetites," above, they did "Lips n Stuff" and "Let's Get Out Of Here," which are both fun but maybe not quite as musically awesome as "Appetites." The lead-off track to Root For Ruin , a rager on the album, sounds shockingly good in an acoustic format, and the [...]

In a year that's seen chill-wave-no-wave-witch-house -glo-fi-lo-fi (delete as applicable) erupt over the internets like a virus (before eventually imploding in on itself), one band have remained a constant - cruising steadily throughout the crud, Yuck - masters of their own destiny - have set their own pace whilst casually overshadowing whatever *scene* is in vogue in any given month. By now, we know all about their nineties inspired college jams that soar with ease; filled to the brim with melodic pop hooks and blissed out guitar breaks. But underneath it all, what music actually makes them [...]
Every new song we hear from London-based indie upstarts Yuck is the newest reason why we love the band. And while the quartet has been giving away "Rubber" for free since October, only today did it drop this visually stunning and curiously provocative video for the track. The clip conflates lingering and rapidly looped footage of dog grooming with lingering footage of a woman washing herself in a shower. It's just weird. But the images have that super crisp quality that you'll remember started cropping up in MTV videos of a certain late era. The song, [...]
MP3 Silver Jews - New Orleans
