Just listened to a couple of Dustin Gamble tracks and thought I would share. I was reminded of him as he just started following me on the Twitters so I took a spin back through his Reverbnation page and thought I would show you how to spend a Slowcoustic St. Valentine's Day. For a reminder, I did a post on Dustin way back in 2008 here . I am not sure if he is still really recording as the two songs [...]
Jasmine Ash's Beneath The Noise is released on Valentine's Day – a perfect feel-good album for your pre-game evening of hearts 'n love and all that stuff.

Looking to brighten up your day? I think i've got a solution for you. His name is Langhorne Slim , and while many of you will know him, I invite you to take this opportunity to revisit an old friend. Though there is one relatively new Slim track I would like to showcase, first let me draw your attention back to his third album, Be Set Free , released a couple years ago. With song's including I Love You, [...]

There's a very special kind of music that I like to listen to on a rainy day or when I can't sleep. It's the type of music that's soft, slow, and relaxing, and instead of playing around with a ton of different instruments, it typically features just a guitar or piano and a voice. With the gloomy winter weather that we have been having in Toronto lately, I've found myself listening to artists like Iron and Wine and Patty Griffin on repeat. Both acoustic in a number of [...]
Having recorded two albums and some EPs, Jessie Baylin's Little Spark presents a confident singer-songwriter rather than that of an indie artist struggling to find her voice.

Today's song of the day is from Zachary Lucky and his track "Back in the Fall" from his upcoming album Saskatchewan (some say EP, some say LP, some say who the hell cares, just let us hear it already). The song is simply fantastic. Whether it is the lazy banjo, the pedal steel or the honest delivery (when his voice just starts to crack when he first sings "Back in the Fall" - it's killer). The song is seems like it is not necessarily a story about a past relationship rather than a mantra to himself [...]

Rising UK popstrel Delilah must be feeling quite charitable at the moment, for she is offering a free mixtape entitled "2 - 4am" , consisting of EIGHT new songs, in glorious 320 bit rate. If I were you, I would try to nab it asap, before she changes her mind! Get a preview with my favorite track from the lot, "The Gospel" , then download the whole shebang below. North London's Daughter consists of lena Tonra, Igor Haefeli & Remi Aguilella. The group released two quality EPs in 2011, including The Wild Youth EP, which was released last October. "Youth" and "Home" (not to be confused with the two Foxes tracks we posted recently) are both excellent examples of the superb folk music created by the trio. Listen to both tracks below. The Great Park logiert wieder in der Schweiz.

HI54LOFI Records has a new compilation out to commemorate Valentines Day next week appropriately called 'I Love You & Stuff" but wait, it's soo much more. This isn't just 15 tracks to impress the one you love/like or even not remotely know, you also get the opportunity to actually send them a Valentine card with your "purchase". Come on, you know you want to spread the love and what better way than with music (...says the music blogger). There are some really great tracks on this compilation and [...]
Esperanza Spalding will soon be dropping her next album RADIO MUSIC SOCIETY. Check out the brand new short film for the single, "Black Gold" featuring Algebra Blesset above... Official words from Ms. Spalding: "This song is singing to our African American heritage before slavery. Over the decades, so much of the strength in the African American community has seeded from resistance and endurance. I wanted to address the part of our heritage spanning back to pre-colonial Africa and the elements of Black pride that draw from our connection to our ancestors in their own [...]

My first trip South of the Mason-Dixon Line (if it is indeed in Virginia like J-Fur will let some people convince her) was on a college visit to North Carolina. My dad and I pulled off at a Cracker Barrel for breakfast and I decided to try something new. I closed my eyes, buzzed my finger of the list and picked grits. At that time, as a very active high school boy who wasn't yet vegetarian, I ate nearly everything. Grits quickly became the exception. They were disgusting. I pushed the half eaten plate away. The waitress returned and asked [...]

For her new single "All Bets Are Off" , singer/songwriter Nerina Pallot once again teamed up with her husband/producer Andy Chatterley for a "We Are The Chatterleys" alternate mix. Having tried '80s disco before , this time they paid tribute to the '90s, which results in 3 minutes and 29 seconds of trip-hoppy loveliness. STREAM: Nerina Pallot - All Bets Are Off (We Are The Chatterleys Alt Mix) In other news, Nerina recently re-released her last album under a new title [...]
Kishore Krishna is doing for Chennai what The Melvins did for the Washington indie scene. The Melvins were at the centre of a tight-knit group of musicians and hangers-on who went on to take the world by storm. In much the same way, Krishna is the central figure in Chennai's emerging alternative singer-songwriter scene. Not only has he put out some of the most exciting music we've heard all year, he's also been a strong influence on a number of his contemporaries. One of his protégés is 19-year–old multi-instrumentalist Harsha Iyer. Harsha Iyer approaches music with a [...]

Danish pop princess Oh Land just unleashed a jolly music video for her brand new single "Speak Out Now" . Shot in Copenhagen, the Sebastian-Birk-directed video has the songstress frolic through a beautiful botanical garden, flaunt her cheekbones in a forest, and ends with an evening dance by the lake, all in a day's work. The gorgeously filmed, nature-themed visuals are a perfect match for the sprightly tune. Plus, who needs a comb when you're a pop star! [...]

Back in late 2010, when Lana Del Rey was still relatively unknown and blond, she made what was possibly her first European TV appearance on Mandio Diao 's MTV Unplugged show. Backed by the Swedish rock band themselves, Lana gave an acoustic rendition of "Chet Baker" , an obscure 2007 b-side named after the jazz legend. The show was later released on CD/DVD, and footage of her segment has been floating around since, but I only managed to discover it a couple days ago. Her voice was a good fit for the jazz-tinged track, [...]

Leonard Cohen er líklega ódauðlegur. Hann virðist að minnsta kosti skrimta fram í það óendanlega og því til sönnunar sendi hann frá sér nýja plötu nú á dögunum. Skífan heitir Old Ideas og er tólfta hljóðversplata Cohens á 45 ára ferli. Í tilefni útgáfunnar hefur Columbia útgáfufyrirtækið fengið nokkra yngri listamenn til að þekja lög kallsins og nefnist uppátæki Old Ideas With New Friends . Meðal þeirra sem taka þátt eru Cults , Cold War Kids , Mountain Goats og Deerhunter / Atlas Sound forsprakkinn Bradford Cox , en [...]

Tyler Butler joins the crew over at our label Yer Bird Records and re-releases 'Winter King' on March 20th, 2012! If you are reading Slowcoustic on a regular basis, you already know of Mr. Butler from Edmonton and we are very excited to bring one of our favourite albums of last year home to us over at Yer Bird Records. We are re-releasing it with a couple of 'bonus tracks' as well! The bonus tracks are a newly recorded version of "Feral Horse" from his previous EP Feral Horse plus the previously unheard title track 'Winter King'. All [...]
This is the first time I'm hearing of California singer-songwriter Julia Holter, but the forthcoming album the above song comes from is not her first rodeo. From what I understand, this will be her second official album, and it's titled Ekstasis . Hopefully, all the songs on this album are as charming as "Marienbad," which features a shy, stripped-down introduction and Julia's chilly winter vocals. About a minute and thirty seconds in, the song hits a groove and growing instrumentation come together to create an atmosphere that feels sort of indebted to Kate Bush. The finale is [...]
