Cottam - Cottam 2 (Cottam) (buy) After looping up Erykah Badu and (possibly) James Brown on his last outing, Cottam keeps the thumpy slo-mo template but invites Angie Stone along for the ride on his new, strictly vinyl EP, imaginatively titled Cottam 2. However none have been as poignant as Terrence Parker's ode to Ken Collier where he dedicates a full 123 record (front& back) to one of the most influential of Detroit's music pioneers , Ken Collier. Fluxion - Inductance EP [Echocord] (buy) A Fluxion release doesn't come along very often. I actually believe this to be good thing, not because I don't like his productions but because I do. His early releases on Basic Channel sub label Chain Reaction were masterful explorations of atmospheric dub influenced techno. Chain Reaction defined the dub techno sound. They invented it. Freund Der Familie - "Symbian/ Pewars" [FDF004] (buy) Freund Der Familie is the alias of Berlin producers Klaus Rakete, & Mirko Hunger who make dub inspired techno via their own imprint FDF. Klaus & Mirko made a name for themselves after their limited - edition dubplate, "Sark" hit the shelves back in mid May 2008. "Sark" was a turning point for FDF & one that I found bridged the gap nicely between techno & dub. The Mountain People - "0083 (buy) ( mp3 ) The Mountain People is the Swiss house project of André Schmid aka Rozzo, Peter Dildo etc. Since its founding in 2006 the label has seen a firm following, with each new release becoming well anticipated. Ranging from deep house to percussive house tools, André makes Mountain People accessible to most house heads. Redshape - "20103 EP [Delsin] (buy) The "20103 EP by the anonymous one in the red mask, aka Redshape is a prelude for his highly anticipated - upcoming album, "The Dance Paradox", which will drop later this Autumn on Delsin. DVS1 - "Klockworks 053 [Klockworks] (buy) Reduced techno is a word I'm coming across more often than not these days. Not to be mistaken for the 2005-2007 strain of "minimal techno", instead, reduced techno has strength & power, which this new record by newcomer, DVS1 represents well.
