Little Children is the name of the band led by 29 year old Linus Lutti. The Stockholm singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist creates lush, warm, and ornamental pop songs along the lines of Jose Gonzalez. Little Children may also remind you of Bon Iver or Loney Dear, and words like sincere, contemplative and mysterious come to mind when listening to the band's infectious songs including "Falling." Another song from the forthcoming EP, "“Distant Shouts,” was featured on Grey’s Anatomy in March and introduced Little Children to a much wider audience. Little Children released its debut album, In Silence , [...]

SINGLE REVIEW: If godflesh were 50% a little mellower and Air a little more agressive that is where this electric jam by Sleep Sleep falls comfortably with a mix with the spacial sounds of the flaming lips in mind. You could it shoegaze but the drum machine will tell you fuck no - that is not exactly right. Then you hear this Smog cover of "Teenage Spaceship" and you'll start to get it. I hope it comes with a big light show. I hope they have a drummer live but either way this is the good shit from [...]
Last week, Birmingham-based rockers Editors released their new single, ‘A Ton of Love’, just over a year after announcing guitarist Chris Urbanowicz’s split from the band. Judging from the sound of this first single, Urbanowicz’s departure has cemented Editors’ digression from fundamentally guitar-based indie rock. New band members Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams have not only filled the gap left by Urbanowicz, but have allowed Editors to expand the dimensions of their sound. While the obvious U2 similarity can’t be ignored—this track hinges on an anthemic chorus of “Desire”—it’s a flattering comparison for Editors, [...]

Coined by Bill Brewster as the “best dance track of the Noughties,” the 2009 release of Mugwump’s “ Boutade ” is set for a re-issue on vinyl this summer. A slow motion churner that comes in around 107 BPMs, it separates itself from the too-cool-for-school nu-disco mentality and brings in a sound often associated with the corny side of traditional disco: orchestral violins and percussion. Mugwump’s recipe avoids making cheese soup by adding just enough loops, time stretches, builds and futuristic sounds to compliment the string section and timpani drums. The result is a retro-disco cut [...]

Kelly Rowland 's churned out so many sensual slow burns ("Kisses Down Low"), naughty come-ons ("Lay It On Me") and joyous dance floor fillers ("When Love Takes Over") over the past five years, it's difficult to initially believe that "Dirty Laundry," Rowland's latest single off of her upcoming record Talk A Good Game , could come from a place of such pain. She's vaguely touched upon struggle in the past ("They never seen our scars before, they think our love is beautiful" she sings on 20102s "Rose Colored Glasses"), but never before has the hurt been so [...]

After 100,000 plus plays on Soundcloud and hitting the Beatport top 40, the UK's George Fitzgerald is slated to give "Thinking of You" a proper physical vinyl release. The song is a noir-house late night heater with Detroit style vocals and deep, pulsing synths and a sharp hand clap. If you haven't heard it by now, you don't get out much and probably should. On the flip, Fitzgerald drops "Nighttide Lover," picking right up where he left off. The track is a peak hour Ibiza anthem that utilizes a transform style flutter to up the impact of the [...]

In conjunction with their “Crossing Wires” EP and full length compilation, My Favorite Robot are releasing a full length studio mix that’s indicative of the house, techno and nu disco sounds that make up the collection. The names of the Toronto trio are strong enough on their own (James Teej, Jared Simms and Voytek Koran), but the comp adds original tracks by the Revenge, Stefan Z, Inxec & Droog, Timo Maas, Tim Paris, Alan Fitzpatrick and more. Running at just over an hour, the mix slow burns for about the first 20-minutes until it opens up with Jonny [...]

Rocket Number Nine, a duo made up London brothers Tom and Ben page, have debuted their new single "Deadly Buzz" off their forthcoming EP, "MeYouWeYou." Coming in at just under five minutes in length, it's a black sci-fi track with roboticized linguistics, electron baseline, Ben's phaser-like synthesizers and a relentless attack by Tom on the drums. Not only is it a warped appeal to Rocket Number Nine's tribal history, but to the forward thinking sect of EDM listeners as well. Their original, twisted future sound has gained enough attention to allow them to open for the likes of [...]

Frightened Rabbit are one of Scotland’s most interesting and exciting bands and this record feels like a small step towards their fleshy underbelly.

Piemont, the production duo (Frederic Möring-Sack and Christian Jonquieres) hailing from Germany, travel back to the feudal lands of Japan for their new cut “Okinawa.” Their travel through space and time yielded them the discovery of Japanese Taiko, a rhythm too often overlooked in the EDM and music scene. On these recordings, Piedmont manages to maintain the organic fluidity by taking the eastern heartbeat and translating it through more western snares, kicks and hand claps. “Okinawa” is thumping and tropical, almost what you would expect to be the primal beat that, according to Japanese mythology, lured the sun [...]

Mariah Carey is taking her sweet, sweet time with this comeback. After tossing her tousled hair in a teaser last month , the iconic chanteuse premiered her brand new duet with Miguel "#Beautiful" (the hashtag in the title is real, very real), the lead single from her follow-up to 20092s Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel . Like last summer's mostly terrible "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" with Meek Mill and Rick Ross , the vocal powerhouse arrives late to the party, casually entering into the production [...]

' The Stone and The Hollow ' is the new track from London based singer songwriter Daniel James . It follows the release of his debut track ' Jackdraw ' earlier in the year. Daniel, who is from Northern Ireland, said about the track that " it was inspired by memories of walks around Belfast Lough and how that felt different to the new London landscape I found myself in. Time to think and ponder on new and old relationships alike, all compounded by the differing sense of space I felt. " [...]

Veteran UK producers, the Orb, have a new 12-inch single featuring dub legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. Kicking off the follow up to last year’s The ORBservers in the Starhouse collaboration between the veteran producers and Perry, “Ball of Fire,” is a full-featured single with remixes from Dabrye, Deadbeat and Mad Professor. The original mix is a trippy dub house composition mixed with the now 74-year-old Upsetter's mind altered flow. Simultaneously as haunting as it celebratory, Perry's scat-like lyrics and vocal delivery seem to be signs of an artist riding strong creative momentum. Montreal's ambient dub master [...]

What were you doing between the ages of 16-18? I know I was still trying to work out how to impress girls, what my best position on the football pitch was and whether a Brit Pop fringe was a good look, it wasn't, I most certainly wasnt writing highly accomplished electronic music that belied my years, something Alfie has been doing since he could power up the family PC. Following the hugely well received Uncomfortably Numb single, support coming from CVS, Four Tet, Justin Martin, Midland to name a few, Alfie has just unleashed [...]

Record Store Day came and went last weekend and with it there were a lot of great releases for you to pick up and while Record Store Day creeps closer and closer to becoming exactly what it set out to rally against—full corporate consumption of music—one thing that it does still bring us is amazing collaborations that really make the day still worthwhile. Moby and Mark Lanegan's limited addition Record Store Day 73 "The Lonely Night" is a slow-moving emotional track. Moby's infamous classical sound is the perfect backdrop for Lanegan's baritone voice. "The Lonely Night" could quite [...]

Paula Temple’s new 12” on R&S Recordings is mad intense. This ain’t no fist pumping clown music. This is raw aggressive techno noise, straight up with no chaser. She best describes “Colonized” in her own words: “Imagining what it would sound like to resist the control systems we encounter every day, to refuse standardization and covert forms of colonization.” If toppling social institutions and refusing to drink the kool-aid seem a little mundane to you, not to worry, the UK’s own Perc, aka Ali Wells comes in with the metal remix to include some anarchy, chaos [...]

So Daft Punk has finally released their first new single in over eight years! Has anyone heard it yet? Please send your thoughts to reviews at magneticmag.com so I can give it a proper review. I can’t seem to find it. I’ve been searching high and low on the Internet all day. All I can find is some circa 2007 mash up that puts Pharrell and Nile Rodgers over some unreleased b-side from Human After …oh wait. It turns out that “Get Lucky” is the new single from the now un-dynamic duo Daft Punk, from their upcoming [...]

Mr. Beatnick, often hailed as one of London’s most inventive and genre challenging producers, is back with his final installment of the Syntheses Trilogy. The four track EP is hard to describe, it’s definitely house, it’s definitely cosmic, it's definitely Baltimore. Hard to imagine how he could get all these genres to work together to produce a solid, cohesive EP, but he somehow does. "Savanah" is the most cut and dry house track, but then again it’s not. The standard four-on-the-floor formula gives way to a slight off-beat stutter, and everyday house pianos break into a synth pattern [...]
