Duluth, Minnesota alt-bluegrass band Trampled By Turtles just released a single called Where Is My Mind which is a Pixies cover. Have a listen to the song. Now the band is signed to Six Shooter Records in Canada. The band recently played at this year's Ottawa Bluesfest . Had a chance to see them live. They were a big surprise and a big hit on [...]

The personal union of Six Shooter artists Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet finds an artistic outlet in the form of Whitehorse which gets a release of the Canadian label later this month, it is of course not the pairs first musical collaboration, both have played on each others albums and Doucet handled the production of McClelland's trio of solo albums and between them they've gathered a number well deserved nominations and awards from the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Hamilton Music Awards, Independent Music Awards, Juno's and Polaris. For this musical partnership, short album [...]

Went to Zaphod Beeblebrox on September 7, 2011. I was curious to see this band called Wagons . They are signed to Six Shooter Records and came all the way from Australia to do their North American tour. So why not check out this band and hopefully give them a lovely Ottawa welcome. Opening up the show was Ottawa's Old Crowns . Haven't seen them play in quite some time. Since they are busy (I hope [...]

It's about time. A few months ago, I found myself attending a snazzy dinner at one of Niagara's fantastic wineries, sitting next to a lovely woman who was once a producer at CBC Radio 1 in Toronto, and having a great discussion about our favourite Canadian music, when the topic of Luke Doucet came up. We discovered a mutual love of his music, and I mentioned my long held desire to hear Doucet and his wife Melissa McClelland work together as a duo, saying that I could imagine just how magical their musical pairing would be. [...]

by teepoo Whitehorse is the fantastic duo (and married couple) of two great singer-songwriters, Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet. Their professional and personal relationship adds a a kind of intimate romance to the music of the talented musicians who have been nominated for various Canadian awards. On August 30th in Canada and October 18th in the US, the two will release a debut self-titled album. Broken will be the first single. The song is about what the other person has lost in a [...]

So the big news around these parts is The Family Straw is moving into it's new castle. Which means, lots of unpacking, cleaning, laundry, etc. Which also means, not a lot of time for blog posting. Sorry about that Late Greats fans. Anyhoo, I got an email yesterday about a new "super" Canadian Duo. Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet got married and had a little LP. They call their group Whitehorse. The LP gets "born" on October 18th on Six Shooter Records. [...]

There's no exact way of knowing how many songs are released in a day. Whether it be an eighteen second kazoo ditty on Soundcloud, or a Hypem track with 4 hearts, all music deserves a shot. Even on an independent blog like Earmilk, it's impossible to cover every band/song/remix worth listening too. That's why Straight From the Teet is back, and this time... IT'S DAILY ! My name is Logan (aka Running ) and I will be curating Earmilk's newest old feature, highlighting three up-and-coming artists from three different genres, so sit back and enjoy some good-old-fashioned, non-pasteurized, Earmilk. [...]

With a growing number of albums hitting Beat Surrender's virtual doormat I've started to carry around with me more of the new music that gets sent my way, listening on the move is not always ideal so the music needs to quickly grab my attention, Justin Rutledge's latest album The Early Widows did just that and after the first listen I was immediately reaching for the repeat button. The Early Widows is Toronto native Rutledge's fourth release, all on Six Shooter Records, for this album he was persuaded to [...]

Another one from the Six Shooter label that's caught my attention, The Beauties got together in 2006 at The Dakota Tavern in Toronto where they had regular Sunday night slot blasting out their own brand of rough hewn roots rock to the bars regulars, a perfect accompaniment to sinking some beers and rocking out - the band have opened for Broken Social Scene and Justin Rutledg e and played with Ron Sexsmith, Jim Cuddy and Serena Ryder, their début release came out in June and includes nine originals plus an excellent cover of [...]

For her fifth studio album Halifax Nova Scotia based singer-songwriter Amelia Curran returned to her birthplace in St. Johns Newfoundland and Labrador where her musical journey began busking on the streets of her home-town, the album Hunter,Hunter was nearly two years in the making drawing it's emotive themes from the ashes of a failed relationship and inspiration from the return home. Recorded in various locations in St. Johns including an abandoned CBC building and an old farm house on the outskirts of the town, the resulting album is a rewarding one, a literate, poetic and captivating [...]
So goes the motto of Canadian indie label Six Shooter Records and who can argue when you listen to the three albums they have set for release over the next month or so, Amelia Curran "Hunter Hunter" gets a UK release on 6th Sept, Justin Rutledge "The Early Widows" on 27th Sept and Luke Doucet "Steel City Trawler" on the 4th October. Three very different albums all top quality and all worth some attention, all three artists are touring the UK in the autumn, check the dates here , all [...]

Elliott Brood | Union Hall | November 24, 2009 Elliott Brood, who are in the midst of a short tour , stopped by Union Hall in Brooklyn last night. The set was a little late for a Tuesday night, but the three piece Canadian band really delivered a great set with a make-shift light show (the band claimed it cost $50). Because of a flash, you might not get a great impression of the light show, but hopefully the photos below give you a good impression of the band. [...]
![Royal Wood - The Lost and Found EP [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1719230_lg.jpg)
Ever since the Royal Tenenbaums, I've marveled over how cool it would be to have the first name of Royal. It sounds so, um…regal. There's a new Royal that's come to my attention recently and his bio reminds me of the Wes Anderson characters. This Royal, Royal Wood, is a former child prodigy that began playing piano at the age of four and is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist. You'll recall Richie "The Baumer" Tenenbaum was a tennis playing prodigy that experienced a nervous breakdown at center court of a tennis match. I'm certainly not forecasting a similar fate for Royal Wood [...]
