Claire Boucher's vocals are chameleonic, constantly bending in ways that compliment the mix and make her voice feel like something that was born out of the track itself. While in the past, Grimes compositions are often characterized by an unpredictable and manic energy, Boucher's upcoming release on 4AD, Visions , looks to be more composed and focused. Tracks like "Skin" are shining examples of something this blog has been hinting at for months now-Grimes is up to something special.

Whatever you think about Skins past or present, there's one indisputable fact about the E4 series: it is permanently on the ball, music-wise. Series 6 looks to be no different judging from the trailer, which, by featuring the full-throttle track River , is likely to break out unsigned UK quartet Kankouran , and their guest vocalist Evelyn Burke . This is a heady, cocktailed-up, car-crash rock: dense and enjoyably intense. [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.]
Video: BOY - "Skin (acoustic version)" BOY is the duo of Valeska Steiner & Sonja Glass, two young women making a ton of noise and hailing from Zurich/Munich, and they're prepping a debut album of indie pop numbers quite like the track "Skin" above, only not acoustic. To get a feel for the girls outside of the acoustic nature of the video, check their other stuff out on the Web for sure and keep watch for the lovely pair on tour in Germany (and hopefully the world soon). Godspeed!

Most of you have probably noticed that Grimes signed with 4AD two days ago. She said in detail via twitter " just want 2 say i am so honoured to be releasing my next album with 4AD - a record label I have admired since I was 13 and first heard the cocteau twins and realized girls can make music, and goth is sick ". Grimes Visions will be released worldwide March 12. Listen to two new tracks " Genesis " and " Skin ". This release will be amazing! Grimes - " Genesis " [...]

Tweet Today I'm introducing you to a duet called BOY . If you already gave these two girls a listen, forgive me, but I must talk about them a little bit. Valeska Steiner and Sonja Glass . Those are the names of these two girls who (and we don't know why) decided to call themselves BOY . Maybe because they're way too pretty and attract any kind of boy. Maybe because they're way too pretty [...]

The end of summer is fast approaching, which means an end to the mud, cider and frolics of the festival season, the icing on the cake being Rob Da Bank's Bestival. But with the autumnal times there comes change, that change being me! As the new addition at HMCMB, I'll be joining the team to help keep you all on the 'cultural' ball. So...Hi..I'm Ruby, and armed with an Oxfam Steward pass and as much camping equipment as humanly possible to carry, I was ready for what the Isle of Wight had to throw at me. The first [...]

Clapton Fox puts you in that autumn mood. MGMT - Time To Pretend's evil twin, the album 'Amazing Thunderstorm' is deep, dark and damn right devious. If you're anything like me one of the first things you'll do when contemplating the purchase of an album is read the track titles. You'll quickly notice that 'Twelve Pairs of Shoes' sounds like the title of a Rolf Harris song, right? Well actually it's surprisingly appropriate... Read more..

Graham Wright plays an often-overlooked role (keyboardist) in an often-underrated band (Tokyo Police Club), so it's not like his solo bow comes with a lot of the usual baggage. Hell, even when the Hold Steady's ivory-tickler Franz Nicolay embarked on a similar side project, certain expectations came with the mustache. All we know is that there's label machinery legitimizing Shirts vs. Skins as more than just downtime with Bandcamp, that it's deemed worthy of our attention by more than just the guy who made it. So what does Wright have to say? Read more »

Tweet Tokyo Police Club have only put out around 90 minutes of music in two albums and two EPs, but somewhere in that less-than-prodigious output, keyboardist Graham Wright has a small solo output going. His first full album "Shirts vs. Skins" is an album that passes by in the blink of an eye, with only one song that cracks the three-minute mark, and a few that are shorter than two minutes. An album that starts with the line "Just a pair of chucklefucks with [...]
Overcooked wit and insincerity, combined with faceless instrumentation sinks an album otherwise filled with great pop hooks. I'm at a place with music criticism where I've done it for enough times I know what elements I'm going to focus on pretty early into my listening. Bandcamp: [...]
Describing themselves as an "ongoing musical project", Dubs Modern Skins certainly have that lived-in feel about them, so much so that you wonder why it's taken this long for the quartet to get around to releasing a debut LP. Don't let the name confuse you, by the way; this is unreconstructed swagger, equal parts dirt and shine and lubricated with the grease of rock's yesteryear. You can almost hear the hiss beer cans being opened in the background. 'Times are Gonna Get Hard' is a fine four minutes of precise and punchy goodtime bar rock, while [...]

Well, I can't think of a better way to start my Thursday. In anticipation of his upcoming mixtape Leap Year , which drops on July 26, Hoodie Allen has blessed us with a new single and accompanying video. The track is called "The Chase Is On", and it rocks. To boot, the video is equally dope. Of course, maybe that's because Sofia Black D'Elia (from MTV's Skins ) co-stars in it. In Hoodie's own words: "She alone makes the video worth watching...but like the song is also really good [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Releases Mike Juneau With the recent release of 'Shirts vs. Skins,' we've gotten to see a whole new side of Tokyo Police Club 's keyboardist Graham Wright. He's stepped into the light with his solo debut , showcasing his vocals and other instrumental talents, and finally letting his intuition guide the music. "My way is a lot more gut," he tells Spinner. "I'm more interested [...]
Tokyo Police Club keyboardist Graham Wright made his debut as a solo artist in 2008 with The Lakes of Alberta, an EP available in a pay-as-you-want format on Bandcamp . Since then, Wright has kept busy with Tokyo Police Club's sophomore LP, Champ, and apparently writing over 60 more songs as a solo artist. Twelve of these songs made it onto his full-length debut, Shirts vs. Skins . Graham Wright went in a folky, acoustic direction on The Lakes of Alberta , but Shirts vs. Skins is a power pop [...]
