The Dollyrots will be at Skully's on Monday, August 30 along with The Cliks and Hunter Valentine. Sure, it's a Monday night, but the show starts at 8 and should be over before anybody turns into a pumpkin. I hit up a campus-area CD store last week, the day A Little Messed Up was released. The CD store owner told me that his UPS shipment hadn't come in for the day and he wasn't sure whether or not this CD would be part of [...]

El-P is flying in to present our city the album, and enjoy the city that Camu loved. ooohh so a national release in Columbus...say word.. but wait..lets not get too cool. [...]

A little bit of everything Saturday night at Skully's as 3 locals ( Blastronauts , The George Elliot Underground , Karate Coyote ) and an out-of-towner (Athens' Manor Animals ) keep the rock rolling (as opposed to the Rick Rolling ) during this Memorial Day weekend. Not really sure of the genesis of this show but it could be the end of a weeklong celebration for The George Elliot Underground who released a new EP, Summer of Weird , earlier this [...]

Tonight: The Wet Darlings CD release party @ Skully’s
The Wet Darlings are doing things the right way - playing shows both in and out of town, generating press, recording new music, getting radio play on CD101 (are we still allowed to call it that?) - and generally just having a blast in the process. Tonight they'll be releasing So Long, Lover , a 6-song EP recorded at Earthwork Recording Studio (Newark, OH). Things start going down around 9pm at Skully's with Ghost Shirt and Yellow Light Maybe rounding out the bill. [...]
Captain of Industry Annouce Reunion Shows
...while we've been hearing rumors for a while now, yesterday it was confirmed that longtime Dayton faves Captain of Industry will play a pair of reunion shows in May. Following the release of their third album The Bronze in 2008, the band did an East Coast jaunt, then quietly faded out. COI's endlessly inventive twists [...]

Tonight in Columbus: Priestess at Skully’s
Click here to view the embedded video. I'm not sure what you're up to tonight, but if you like super totally bad ass live rock shows, then there's no reason you shouldn't be attending this show. I saw Priestess open for High on Fire last time they came through (which was the night I called 911 for the first time in my life because some chick fell through my glass coffee table and was bleeding from her back) and 2 things real quick-they slayed my brain and their albums [...]
Friday: Helmet/Intronaut @ Skully’s
Metal Rob tells me to put all my money in Intronaut stock. "They have the potential to be the next Mastodon ," he says. I have little reason to doubt Metal Rob as he is all knowing. Intronaut's third album, Valley of Smoke , was released this week and is full of proggy, post-metal with jazzy instrumental Sabbath-y breakdowns. The one thing that always kept me from digging this band as much as Metal Rob were the gutteral, barking vocals but they've remedied that on Valley of Smoke with, [...]
Tonight in Columbus: Yeasayer @ Newport
Click here to view the embedded video. Yeasayer - O.N.E. Tomorrow marks the return of Brooklyn-based Yeasayer (and our friend Ahmed Gallab aka Sinkane ). It's been over a year since their last show at Skully's, but between a new record, constant touring of the world and television appearances, this comes as no surprise. Odd Blood has received acclaim from multiple reviewers across the US and UK since February and supplied the demand of fans globally, including appearances at [...]

Video: Andrew Graham & Swarming Branch – “Meatloaf at the Steakhouse”
Click here to view the embedded video. Andrew Graham & Swarming Branch played the Rumba last night, and Philip Kim shot some video that captures the band's live vibe pretty well. Says Graham, "This is a leaner, meaner swarming branch that practices every day. The lineup is Dane Terry , Chris Burney [ex-The Sun], and Flagships -era RTFO Bandwagon drummer Sean Leary , recently re-transplanted from Boone, NC." You can catch Graham solo tomorrow night (Saturday, 7/31) at Rumba and with his Branch on Tuesday, August 3rd, [...]
