(reedited and corrected from a 2004-01-06 article in "the Lance Monthly on the net") by Astro le Mocker On June 24, 2003, the Seeds came to Paris. Well, not exactly. We had one fourth of the original band; even Jan Savage, the original guitarist, had to quit after his shows in Spain 'cause he couldn't take it any more, getting drunk all night like he was still 20 and [...]
ESTATE OF SKY SAXON SUES FOR ROYALTIES; RECORD COMPANY AND PUBLISHER REFUSE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR 37 YEARS SKY SAXON, the singer and songwriter behind the 1960s garage-rock band The Seeds, died in June 2009. However, for most of his career and to the end of his life, he received no royalties at all from his record company or his music publishing company. The reason? According to those companies, Saxon sold his artist's and producer's royalties in 1973 for $350, and his music publishing royalties for $250. Despite repeated requests over the years from [...]

Today we take a turn into the psychedelic Sixties, with the Seeds' Future from 1967. Here we have a vintage LP from a truly bizarre outfit; they emerged in 1965 from Los Angeles under the leadership of singer Sky Saxon. The Seeds had one substantial Top 40 hit, "Pushin' Too Hard," which was originally cut and released in 1965 but didn't reach the pop charts until two years later. Throughout their career, they were little more than a marginally talented garage band and pretty much everyone knew that except the band itself. Saxon's songs and his [...]
Suddenly a new super group emerged on stage, with Djin Aquarian and Billy Corgan on bass! This was "YaHoWha 33" and suddenly the calm, meditative breather from before must have recharged his chakras! Djin rocked and cooed and smiled from behind his beard like nothing I've seen since the Soggy Bottom Boys appeared on screen a few years back. No hippie love jam this, unless by "jams," you meant things to Kick Out. There was rock and sweat and vitality, screaming dudes in robes, and man, I just could not believe Sky Saxon was dead, because I felt so alive!

A tribute to the recently deceased Sky Saxon of the Seeds was held last Friday at the Echoplex in Los Angeles, and Billy Corgan was there to not only pay respects to his childhood icon and musical companion but to rock the joint. Pitchfork.com reports that in addition to playing on a number of classic tunes including "Spirit In The Sky," Corgan and new 19 year-old drummer Mike Byrne unleashed a brand spankin' new Smashing Pumpkins track. Here's a clip of the new song, [...]
It seems as if the death of legendary psychedelic musician Sky Saxon has had quite the profound effect on Billy Corgan and The Smashing Pumpkins . The pair recorded a track together shortly before the late musician's passing on June 25th, and his influence remains steady over the latest Pumpkins track, debuted live this past Friday. The song, entitled "Freak," was performed to an intimate audience at Los Angeles' Echoplex, where a Saxon tribute was underway. Corgan was joined on stage by Strawberry Alarm Clock's Mark Weitz and Electric Prunes' Mark Tulin, as [...]
![Sky Saxon audio obituary, Part 2: Sky "Sunlight" Saxon and Fire Wall - World Fantastic [Skyclad Records, 1980]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1862635_lg.jpg)
The second installment in my tribute to late Seeds frontman Sky Saxon has been a bumpy one thus far. I'm listening to World Fantastic , credited to Sky "Sunlight" Saxon and Fire Wall (two words, no shit), and it's now apparent to me that absolutely NO ONE escaped the wrath of the 1980s, not even Saxon. World Fantastic isn't bad, just rough in that way only '80s records were: Tons of synths tossed up front like a greasy mechanic's rag [...]
In all of last week's Michael Jackson hullabaloo, psychedelic garage rock hero Sky Saxon 's death was unfortunately swept under the rug. Sure, Saxon and his band The Seeds never achieved anything close to the level of superstardom Jackson did, but all the same, Saxon's contributions have been influential to multiple generations of musicians. Before Saxon passed away last Thursday, he recorded a duet with Billy Corgan entitled "Choose To Choose Love," currently available for a listen on a recently erected Facebook tribute page . "Sky lived everyday with the concept [...]

Filed under: News , New Music Prior to his death last week , Seeds singer Sky Saxon teamed with Billy Corgan to write and record a duet called 'Choose to Choose Love.' A video of the previously unreleased tune is available on a Facebook page dedicated to the late garage rocker. "Sky lived everyday with the concept of love as his guide, and he walked the talk," blogged the Smashing Pumpkins frontman in a recent post. "He was a [...]

I choose to start my weeklong Sky Saxon remembrance with Future because it's the Seeds album I've listened to the most of late. It's their third full-length effort as a group and dropped in '67 , the year so many call the Alpha of the 1960s. [...]

Oh man. Another hero from the '60s, the ageless Sky Saxon from The Seeds and several solo outfits, has died . The first time I ever heard about the Seeds was from a fellow music reporter, Mike Corrigan, in Spokane, Wash. I asked him if there were any '60s bands I should check out (what a STUPID question!!) and his reply was: Seeds. And check them out I did; from there you couldn't stop me from snatching up ever Saxon-related release I could find. [...]

The NYT reported Friday that Sky Saxon (born Richard Elvern Marsh), lead singer and bassist for LA psychedelic band, The Seeds , had left this mortal coil. His death was apparently due to heart failure and was "thought to be 71." Anyone with a Nuggets compilation is likely to have heard "Pushin' Too Hard" or "Can't Seem to Make You Mine" with the latter ditty featuring Sky's gruff warble and a trademark bent guitar lick. Apparently the celebrity death rule of threes is in force with MJ, Farrah and Sky all passing during the [...]
We would like to repost some words about Sky left by members of the Source Family. Sky joined the Family in the '70s and was instrumental in bringing their music to the wider world. Some memories below: Sky Sunlight Saxon/Arelich was one of those rare beings who never had a bad word to say about anyone [...]

Beat it, Jacko. Move over, Charlie´s Angel of hair and boobs fame. For I just heard that the one and only Sky Saxon died yesterday. With his band The Seeds Sky - real name Richard Marsh - recorded some of the rawest garage rock to come out the US of A during the sixties. Miss him. The Seeds - Can´t Seem To Make You Mine MP3 The Seeds - Pushin´ Too Hard MP3 The Seeds - No Escape MP3
The world lost a true musical maverick last night, with the death of Sky Saxon . Saxon was born with the slightly more plain name Richard Marsh at some point around the Second World War - nobody seems quite sure when. After brief spell as a doo-wop singer, Little Richie Marsh, Saxon reinvented himself as lead singer with The Seeds. Saxon was the American bridge between Sergeant Pepper and US punk, turning out three albums at the end of the sixties which more-or-less defined Flower Power. The Seeds burned brightly, but quickly - their final [...]
Two iconic artists passed away today: Sky Saxon (frontman of early 1960s garage band The Seeds) and Michael Jackson . Sky Saxon had been hospitalized on Monday, reported in Spinner as "suffering from an undisclosed illness" . He played his last gig on Saturday night at Antone's in Austin, Texas. Along with groups like The Sonics and The Monks, The Seeds , formed in Los Angeles 1965, were a crucial part of the first wave of garage rock. Their '65 single "Can't [...]
