Dark music shouldn't make you happy, should it? Wrestling with your moods while listening to music is a curious craft. It's usually the mood that dictates the music your listening to but, more often than not, the music can take your moods on a furious ride like a dandelion seed in the wind. Gabriel Bruce is a British artist who's been huffing and puffing on my dandelion eardrums while refusing to let go of my ears. Then again, I'm not exactly trying to escape like Steve McQueen. "Sleep Paralysis" is a [...]

Gabriel Bruce returns with A Brief and Selfish Lover EP, ditching the emotive sparsity of "Sleep Paralysis" for some snarling aggression on new track "Dark Lights, Shine Loud". continue reading >>

This dude has one of the sickest flows I've heard in a while... if you don't believe me, check for yourself below. If you want more, check out his SoundCloud for more tracks. Hit him up on Twitter and thank him for giving you something dope to listen to.

Falling under the spell of Leonard Cohen , Nick Cave, and Nicolas Jaar as of late should lead one to the obvious conclusion of how much I am digging Gabriel Bruce's single "Sleep Paralysis". Like each of the aforementioned artists, Bruce is a bass-heavy crooner that falls somewhere between overly dramatic and just plain evil. "Sleep Paralysis" seeps in with a raw organ back drop as Bruce's thick vocals melt over a depraved melody. Despite its overly dark sentiment ("I got this feeling that we're dead and there's nothing wrong") Bruce manages to keep you holding on [...]

Contributed by Trevor Meyer London’s Gabriel Bruce has just released his debut 7” "Sleep Paralysis". The deluxe package features Bruce’s 7”, as well as 50 page book featuring illustrations, poetry, and introspections on the concept of sleep paralysis. There is evidence to suggest that sleep paralysis can be caused by multiple factors, one being migraine headaches. Whether you’re a lucid dreamer, or just a light sleeper, most of us have probably experienced some form of sleep paralysis even if only for a second. "Sleep [...]

"I got this feeling I was dead, and there’s nothing more", the oft-repeated line from Sleep Paralysis, and ex-Loverman Gabriel Bruce sets the tone for his debut single. A song of mounting desperation and loss with Bruce's deep gravelly voice crooning over a simple organ pattern and increasingly industrial percussion. Simple and built to a crescendo - a song to which to lie on the cold hard floor, scrunch your eyes up tight and re-examine, and re-explore what you have, as the music pounds its way into your soul. Sleep Paralysis 73 is out [...]

(Song Of The Day) Gabriel Bruce - Sleep Paralysis ‘I got this feeling I was, dead and there’s nothing more’ If London’s Gabriel Bruce voice does not instantly captivate you; then surely his lyrics will. Its a little dark but that is counteracted by the hypnotizing drums, organ and off course a synthesizer. If you are like me and you are dying to hear more of Gabriel’s [...]

London-based young buck producer Will Archer AKA Slime , who became the object of much affection with his Vondelpark collaboration , just stepped out the shadows to hit our inbox between the eyes with "Caffeine"; a gently meandering, pitch-bending collage of self-recorded/produced instrumentation that Archer ambitiously sculpts into his own perceptive, outsider beat-ballad. Keeping us up all night. Slime - Caffeine

Before I relate my experiences of sleep paralysis, I have a shameful food-related confession to make. I love vinegar so much that I err, drink it on its own sometimes. Sometimes, when I'm alone, either in my flat or at home, I go for the vinegar and pour a little, just a little maaan, out on a spoon to sip. Last night, I had a vicious vinegar craving and went straight for the balsamic and poured it into a teaspoon, smack addict style, for a quick furtive hit. Halfway through drizzling the sweet black honey into the spoon, I was [...]
