Tweet Listen to and download the new Cheerleader song "Do What You Want" below. It's been a hot minute since we last wrote about Cheerleader , that being when we wrote our Intro piece on them back in June 2011. At that point they only had two songs, "New Daze" and "Dreamer" , both tipping hats towards a radiant Lo-Fi Indie-Rock, faces facing [...]

Cakecast? Yes, the Cakecast, because I turn thirty-six today, and in the absence of a real cake and in honour of the fact that I have a gig tonight at the Wee Red and will hence be working, I decided that at least a picture of some cake was in order. I don't worry about age particularly, but I have to confess that thirty-six sounds suspiciously more like 'nearly forty' than it does like 'thirty-something'. Curse you time and your unrelentingly linear nature! Anyhow, as I said, tonight we have Gummy Stumps , Weird Era [...]

Kirjoituksesta ja kuvista vastaa Hannu. Laajempi kuvagalleria @ Flickr . Flow 2011 alkoi erittäin positiivisella yllätyksellä. Festivaalialuetta oli muokattu totaalisen uuteen uskoon. Laajennettu alue pitää sisällään uusia esiintymislavoja, hämyisiä elokuvamestoja, askartelupaikkoja ja ties mitä. Joku kertoi alueelta löytyvän jopa neppisradan. Me likes! [...]

This podcast is, as you will already know, very, very late. Personally I blame a combination of the RNLI, gin, and the fact that Mrs. Toad is away all week, which meant that yesterday wasn't really available for blog things. It's also not very new music-orientated either, so hopefully those of you who come here pretty much just for that won't be too disappointed. I think what happened was that I got so into a handful of new releases recently that I neglected all the others, so when I came to sit down and write about [...]

Before Empire of the Sun, there was The Sleepy Jackson. You may well remember them. If not, check them out on Spotify . The Sleepy Jackson - Good Dancers BONUS: The Sleepy Jackson - Marry You (acoustic) This was taken from a radio session. Don't remember when or where. I don't even actually know if it has a title or was just something Luke Steele came up with on the spot. The Sleepy [...]

Top 5 ways to get over the Wednesday hump: ☛ From the demise of Sleepy Jackson comes Empire Of The Sun [pictured above], a Boys For Lashes or AussieSpooner, if you will, if Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore were dressed by the creatures from "The Dark Crystal." Last weekend at Lollapalooza, they managed to upstage Green Day's fireworks-laden set across the field from them. Will the Music Box at the Fonda be able to contain them tonight? Throw on your spirit animal costume and head down there to find out. ☛ [...]

If you're unaware of what Music Monday is, it's a Twitter recommendation system where users of Twitter share their favourite music, artists, genres, etc in order to not only find new music themselves but help others find new music too. Using the hashtag (#) followed by "MusicMonday" you can easily find new music posted by the thousands of people making recommendations each week. Every #MusicMonday I upload a playlist of 20 songs that I've been listening to (new and old) over the past week [...]

From scatty Sleepy Jackson recordings to Jay-Z collaborations, Luke Steele's Empire Of The Sun are a ray of blinding innovation amidst the overcast skies of contemporary music culture and fashionable uniformity that have elevated the genial individual at the nucleus of the project to unchartered media territories. The man, the enigma, the Emperor and now-father, talks feeling like a wax work Star Wars icon, taking on Stevie Wonder at this year's Glastonbury and Nick Littlemore. Littered with Prince cross-references, from halfway across the globe. Maybe best not to request any fanboy photos down on Worthy Farm though... [...]

Empire of the Sun , the electronic music project from Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson , has been doing fairly well since last year's release of Walking On A Dream . And now the act are coming to North America for a very, very short series of dates that starts on August 7 in Chicago, IL at Lollapalooza. The band's New York City date is a mere two days later on August 9 at Terminal 5. Check out the full list of shows after the jump. Empire of the Sun tour [...]

as we dive back into our regularly scheduled program after last weeks hip hop showcase, i really wanted to start out the week with a smokin hot track. fortunately, this fm attack remix of with you forever by pnau is nothing short of smokin hot. pnau is made up of peter mayes and nick littlemore. nick littlemore is also one half of empire of the sun with luke steele, who is also a member of the sleepy jackson, who was an extra in footloose starring, you guessed it, kevin bacon! of course [...]
Saying that Empire Of The Sun is the most peculiar band I've ever encountered would probably be an inaccurate statement. However, it probably wouldn't be too far off. To even the casual onlooker, 2008 & 2009 were big years for electro pop. Standing on the precipice of 2010, the indie/garage rock wasteland seems now only [...]

It was only supposed to be a side project. But Empire of the Sun, an Australian electro duo comprising Luke Steele, originally of the Sleepy Jackson, and Nick Littlemore, of PNAU, turned out to be something of a behemoth. Named on the BBC's Sound of 2009 list at number 4, the group took home truckloads of prizes at the Australian Recording Industry Association's awards ceremony last month (as pictured above), and has achieved considerable chart success both in Australia and the UK with debut record Walking On A Dream . Although Littlemore is presently AWOL recording new [...]

I guess I fell asleep on these...like Bobby at practice. I wish I could take 2 million dollar naps. Arcade Fire - Wake Up Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Soft Shock (Them Jeans Acoustic Remix) The Black Kids - Hurricane Jane (The Twelves Remix) Washed Out - Feel it All Around Kanye West - Get em High (Ratatat Remix) [...]

It's the most wonderful time of the year! And since you've all been such good ghouls and boys, I'm handing out my biggest bag of treats yet. I've added to last year's Halloween mix, and it is now a lurching monster of 66 tracks. You can download the entire mix as a zip file at the bottom of the list. I will be attending my fair share of Halloweeny events this year (I already went to a book launch dressed as Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, but that's a surreal story for another time), including a Neil [...]

Alternative / Indie / Electronic Yes, I'm A Witch is a remix album by Japanese artist Yoko Ono that features remix work from the likes of Peaches , The Sleepy Jackson , Le Tigre , Antony Hegarty of Antony & The Johnsons , The Flaming Lips , and the incredible DJ Spooky . It was commissioned by [...]

empire of the sun - "walking on a dream (download)" Australia's Empire of the Sun get a thumbs up for having the most amazing album cover of 2008, as well as naming themselves after the well-known JG Ballard book/ Christian Bale film. Empire of the Sun is actually a "side project" for The Sleepy Jackson' s Luke Steele and Pnau 's Nick Littlemore . They've had quite the buzz going for them for the past [...]

Dear God I never thought of what I do as an endurance sport before - after all, it's really just a case of endlessly farting on about some tunes which I happen to like - but this year's Festival is going to become just that. This week has been punishing enough already, and next might be even heavier going. This week so far I have been to a fucking superb performance by Jesus H. Foxx on Tuesday at Electric Circus, supported by my first real experience of Art Fag, who tortured songs by Meursault and Enfant Bastard with [...]

Image From Here The addiction is so hard to break. And it's something you cannot fake. It's bigger than anything you have faced in this life. It takes hold of you and it's grasp is pulling you downward. You have developed a fondness for crawling and it is the only thing you can do. And the more you crawl, the more you fall deeper and deeper into the hole of despair. You struggle and say to yourself; 'I've got to find a way out of here '. You [...]

Many Miles of infinite hard road ahead of me. The road is full of obstacles and potholes. Don't know if I can navigate through it. The forest reaches out on both sides. But I can't see through the trees. I'm locked in, tied down, the only way to go is forward. I feel blocked and trapped. Everything closes in on me, I can only see the yellow line on the road now. And it seems to stretch to infinity. There is no end to it at all. I am a finite entity on a road that is infinite. [...]
