martin scorsese's the last waltz , considered generally one of the best concert films, captured in mesmerizing - and often rather hilarious (all of the interviews, van morrison, etc) - detail the final live show by the band , in 1976, right here in san francisco. we saw it for the first (and second times) a few weeks ago and can't recommend it highly enough. though there was an official soundtrack released, and then another, more comprehensive collection released later, each contained some remixing & overdub to clean up the sound. but [...]

Yeah Yeah Yeahs were on SNL this weekend; above is their performance of Zero. After the jump find their performance of Rock Band Fans' favorite, Maps.
I didn't watch SNL until Sunday afternoon and had spent no previous time on the interwebs that day, so I was quite suprised and happy when Yeah Yeah Yeahs performed the oldie but goodie Maps . Afterwards I read some complaints about Karen O's voice cracking and SNL's terrible sound crew, but I think they repped themselves well overall. Your thoughts? YYY - Zero: YYY - Maps: [...]

This weekend's Saturday Night Live was another sign that the show's writers are still trying to figure out how to navigate the post-Sarah Palin landscape, with a sorta-depressing skit about host Zac Efron's realization that he will never shake the "teen idol" tag placed around his neck by High School Musical being the nominal highlight; there was also a sketch featuring Bon Jovi "opposite band" Jon Bovi that went on so long, I pictured the show's director waving frantically behind the camera, making gum-stretching gestures at Jason Sudeikis [...]

Yeah Yeah Yeahs stop by SNL and perform "Maps" and "Zero"

With Zac Efron the host of last night's episode of SNL, I'll admit my expectations were...pretty low. The High School Musical star wasn't exactly the greatest host, but he did an alright job. For me, nothing topped the Muppets' sketch from last week. In his monologue, he put it best by thanking his fan base for "staying up this late to see him." The Gilly sketch was laughable as Efron portrayed the German exchange student. You knew the High School Musical parody was coming, pumping a little bit of realism into the [...]

You might want to think twice before you decide to spend your Easter night alone with that chocolate bunny your mom left you in your big kid Easter basket, because Santos Party House in New York is hosting a secret Yeah Yeah Yeahs show that's bound to be far more exciting than any Easter candy eating escapades you will most likely be partaking in. The now not so secret show is just one day after the band will be performing on SNL , and [...]

Phoenix [MP3] Phoenix - 1901 - NEW TRACK! I watched Phoenix performing on SNL last week in the Dakota Lounge before The Monolators set. Did any one else want to give the singer a sandwich as much as I did? He looked so incredibly gaunt! The band's new album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix will be out May 25th, 2009. Seriously these guys look like their starving so please pick it up! Watch their performance on SNL below. Thanks [...]
