London-based producer Mistabishi has never been one to follow conventional paths. He arrived on the drum and bass scene in 2007 and over the next two years released a series of high quality singles, combining a gnarly, militant aesthetic with an honest, emotional edge. After signing up with Hospital Records he released his debut long-player, "Drop", in 2009, which was that rare thing in drum and bass; an artist album with thematic cohesion and a real story to tell. It was complex and dark, leaping from evocative liquid d'n'b to mutant dubstep via viciously whomping rollers, and cemented Mi... [...]
It's a brisk Tuesday night and I have plonked myself at The Social, just of London's Oxford Street to take in the launch of Monument Valley's release The Tongues with a gig by Monument and their support act Peter and Kerry. I settled down to watch Peter and Kerry, which sounds awfully casual doesn't it, as if I'm talking about staring at two mates? Rather I'm referring to the charming duo who unassumingly took to the stage. There was something very earnest about the twosome, and they carried them selves with an uncertain awareness that people were watching them whilst [...]
The Rapture is back with their first LP in five years. Busy with Coachella , supporting The Killers , and a host of other big-time appearances/scene-collabs, In The Grace Of Your Love heralds a return to their indie heritage. The album was released on DFA Records September 5th. We here at SFC love both our acronyms and our indie, so naturally a record label headed by the mighty James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem fame) would instinctively appeal to us. [...]
Junior Boys are coming to The Social Wednesday, October 5th. Built for fans of glistening electrosynth indie-pop (a la Chromeo ), theirs is a classy and refined sound, accessible and polished and warm. The Canadian duo has hit the road hard in America this fall, after a long summer on the European festival circuit (playing more than 10), and tears through Florida this week. All this touring is in support of their newest album, It's All True , released on Domino Records back in June. [...]
Okay, so how is it October already people? The Junior Boys started doing their swaggin' in 1999; Talk about old school. It's a bit confusing on how they got started so instead of telling you all the history, look at THIS. Wikipedia is so handy. THIS Wednesday, this awesome electropop duo will be gracing Orlando with it's presence at the Social downtown. If you missed them last year, then lucky for you youtube exists as well. Check out the video below. I love the internet. For more information check out the Facebook Event [...]
Yes! We love The Social! Ever wanted to hear what The Smiths would sound like fronted by Ian Curtis? That would be an awesome collaboration for sure. So The Social kind of sound like that. On "UK Gothic" you'll hear refs to a greatest hits of early to mid 80's UK guitar bands (Smiths, JD, New Order, Cure, Bunnymen, etc). Listen. The Social - UK Gothic The Social ( Myspace ) Rating 8.3

News & Music! So… How do You Say His Name Again? Ajapai @ OVRKILL!
The opening night of OVRKILL will be completely ridiculous. We've got a new production partner, new music, and even more bass to pummel your ribcage. Expect SIX DUAL 183 EAW's plus the 2 The Social already has (14 total subs!). That's 4 more subs than the original Bassmelt system! Couple that with The Social 's newly-installed native EAW mini-line array, and you have a bass-junkies' dream. Yes, you read that right. We are putting ALL THAT in THE SOCIAL. Oh, there's more. For the kickoff we have [...]

Making Music More Social
After coming off of the Billboard FutureSound event, I came away with one resounding message: Every music service is trying to 'get more social'. We see this in trends such as the Facebook Music integration unveiled at f8. We see it in new services gaining traction such as BCKSTGR, TrackTrack.IT, ...

Mentioning The Death Of Postmodernism Is En Vogue - Five Years Ago We Told You So
Mentioning The Death Of Postmodernism Is En Vogue We've seen two articles in the past week mentioning the death of Postmodernism. In the socio-political sense we wrote about this in our MA Thesis published in 2005. Guess this proves that...
