Indianapolis native David "Moose" Adamson's high energy rhythmic banter group Jookabox . After seeing this band last year with So Many Dynamos at Rose Hulman , I gave them a few listens. Their set was rough around the edges at times but a few songs worked their way into my brain. "Phantom Don't Go" and "You Cried Me" were high energy and exciting. In a different setting I believe their set would have been really fun (stiff legged super nerds standing 40 feet away from the stage really kills the vibe.) At one point So Many Dynamos [...]

If it seemed like day one was full of tough decisions, day two really put my prioritization skills to the test. I had marked up to five or six options for several time slots, but in the end cheap beer and proximity probably played a larger role in decision making than I should admit. There was still plenty of great music and here's the rundown for the day. Venice Is Sinking Listen: Ryan's Song | Pulaski Heights Having [...]
I enter Highbury's tiny Buffalo Bar on a freezing night with the knowledge that a few weeks after this tiny debut London show was announced an additional night at the Borderline in central London. I had assumed that our Capital's scene stalwarts and savvy donwloaders would be swarming by the hundreds and that this additional date was to cope [...]

Words: Gareth O'Malley No band is unpidgeonheoleable, they say. While that may be true for most bands, there are some that continue to push themselves outside the boundaries of genre: bands like These New Puritans , for instance, are sounding like no-one else but themselves. Animal Collective , too, have always managed to avoid being pinned down completely, even as their sound has taken on more accessible - 'poppier', if you will - elements. Illinois quartet So Many Dynamos could be seen to fall into this category as well. They have seemed [...]
An old Chevy van has its windows smashed. Shattered glass litters the pavement, reflecting the yellow sodium streetlight above. The thieves quickly vanish into the darkened alleys with their loot. Following the robbery outside a concert venue in Seattle, the band So Many Dynamos were left without any guitars and seemingly unable to make the scheduled [...]

Cast Spells is the side project of Maps & Atlases singer/songwriter Dave Davison. His meticulous and playful songwriting has earned a lot of critical acclaim as well as a coveted spot on itune's "What's Hot" list. I spoke with Dave about the inspiration and process for his new EP "Bright Works and Baton." Cast Spells are set to play a show with Good Old War December 7th at the Westcott theatre in Syracuse, NY. First off, why the name "Cast Spells"? Do you have [...]

Both musically and geographically, BLK JKS added an extra dimension of diversity to the Pygmalion Festival lineup. The band are originally from South Africa (although they said during the set this was a myth and they're really from a van parked behind the venue) and they mix vocal chanting, blues-rock guitar, and tribal drumming creating a full-bodied, powerful sound. Their rhythmically-inclined tunes are meant to be heard live, and the drummer especially is a sight to behold, both methodical and wild as he pounds out the fills and beats. Added to the thundering riffs and harmonic vocals, and you can see [...]

St. Louis, MO "New Bones" So Many Dynamos on MySpace So Many Dynamos on The Hype Machine

How could I not feature a band here on the Daily Dose who recently broke down in Blythe, California while out on tour? This is what happened to St. Louis band SO MANY DYNAMOS in the last few months as per their most recent blog post. Reminding me of days gone by, our families old VW bus broke down in this podunk town between Phoenix and LA at least twice on long journeys from CA to TX. Perhaps this the band's first or second badge of van trouble there, and perhaps they've picked up [...]

Put your disposable lobster bib on for today's Smörgåsbord. Personally, I had enough lobster this past week or so, and I don't even like it. Honestly, on the whole it seems like far too much work for what is ultimately very little reward. But, for you crustacean lovers, we have a brand new, fresh from the musical ocean remix of So Many Dynamos, as well as an understated remix of The Radio Dept. from The Rice Twins, and then some Fanfarlo. We ran out of those little forks, so good luck getting the meat out. The Radio Dept. [...]

One for the Team got some blog love this weekend. Check out these nice notes on Pasta Primavera , We All Want Someone To Shout For , and Borangutan . We're glad the Team is back in the states after an awesome Europeon tour. They are exactly as happy as they are in the above photo, but not as sweaty. Now, Now Every Children received a nice write up from Blare Magazine. Read it here . [...]
