Why can't they bring Sónar to Los Angeles?

Sonar returns for it's 19th year by announcing an impressive lineup and 3 additional events in Sao Paulo, Tokyo and Cape Town to coincide with it's Barcelona home! The 'tour' kicks off with 'A Taste of Sonar' on March 2 in Cape Town, before returning to Tokyo April 21-22, Sao Paulo a month later, May 11-12 before closing with the biggest of them all, Barcelona between June 14-16.

Don't know how this slipped through the net but it's featured now. Big fan of Millions Like Us and Eddie K so wouldn't expect anything less. Top performance on the vocals too by Hollie G ! You can buy it now alongside their other track 'Sonar' now . Millions Like Us & Eddie K - Black Widow ft. Hollie G

Last year's Lovebox (affectionately known as 'Mudbox' to all who entered Victoria Park in Hackney that weekend) was pretty great with Snoop, Art Department, 2ManyDJs and Azari & III all on the bill. In fact the lineups just keep getting better and better each year, making the east London festival very firmly one of the capitals 'must-do's' of the summer. This year, we expect bigger and better (and fingers crossed better weather) ..... Only thing is, they've actually gone and moved the date back to June which means it will clash with another summer 'must-do', Sónar Festival [...]

The Dam Funk show at Sonar on Friday was quite impressive. The last time I had seen Dam Funk at the Ottobar, but he was playing solo. He was amazing at that show alone, so this was 10x better since he had a backing band. His brand of funk is very progressive, and I can't think of anyone who is taking a genre in a new direction quite like he is at the resent moment. The music has the perfect amount of experimentation, traditional funk, and external influences (sometimes even punk). It's so smooth that it's easy to [...]

DJ Kicks has been one of the most well established compilation's since it's introduction in 1995, with C.J. Bolland. Since then, the series has expanded to 36 and has added the likes of Carl Craig, Four Tet, Nightmares on Wax, Stereo MC's and Daggy G from Massive Attack to its impressive roster. Mixmag even hopped off its fence and stuck its neck on the line to call it 'The most important DJ Mix Series ever'. Compilation 37 will be released on October 17th with Paul Rose, better known as [...]

Tayland Promotions is putting on a benefit show at Sonar this Thursday for the family of Baltimore rapper Yuk, and I wrote a post on the City Paper's Noise blog about the show and the unfortunate circumstances of Yuk and his family that the benefit is being held because of. Yuk, Comp, KG and others will be performing at the show, go check it out if you can.
This East Ender Promo came out this past June as a freebie on Beatport . I'm assuming this was for Sonar, because that's the art for the release on the Beatport page. Anyway, this is actually a nice little pack of tunes, usually when you get a free release of such high caliber producers, it's just left overs from an EP or something, but that's not the case this time. Carlo Lio - Black Luca Bacchetti, David Squillace - Around The Bay [...]

Yea alright, chill out, don't get to excited! This is definitely just a recorded rip from a radio station or from the boiler room. But having spent the last 4 hours nailing cocktails with my mother in Shoreditch on one of her infrequent visits, I have decided that this is actually the finest quality rip I have heard of Scuba's brand new and much hyped tune - Adrenalin. I'm sure the cold light of Saturday morning will confirm this! so very, very sure. It doesn't even matter that it cuts off before the next mix. [...]

Here is a short list of things I like: Barcelona, birthdays and Canadian duo Art Department. Combining these three would be something quite super-special so that the fact I didn't is fairly gutting. Barcelona's annual Sónar Festival fell on my birthday this year and I so desperately wanted to go. Sadly I wasn't able to. What you're probably saying to yourself now is Oh well that's a bit pants, but probably not so bad 'cos they played Saturday Lovebox recently, riiiight? Well guess what. I didn't go to that either because I was off busy attending someone else's birthday across [...]

I've mainly spent the day blowing my brain to shreds using extra loud music and my mate's headphones that, apparently, cost about 300 boys. I can understand why, my meagre 50quid pair now seems hugely disappointing and just straight up crap in comparison. Could I really justify spending that much dollar on headphones when I am clearly not a renowned dj lapping up the sun rays throughout L.A. Anyway, I'm pretty much relishing the opportunity to kick back and listen to something a little bit more mellowed out right now. First up is a bit of a special [...]

DZA must've hacked into an old orbiting Sputnik or drifting Soviet satellite to get the sounds he uses to make his atmospheric beats. Just months after he set up his Myspace, he was collaborating with Aloe Blacc, Shadow Huntaz, Om'Mas Keith of Sa-Ra Creative Partners, and fellow 2010 participant Mujuice (As Cut2Kill). Finding that elusive balance between heavy beats and weightless ambience, DZA is ready to snap necks and leave a zilla-sized footprint on Red Square. This mind melting set of his trademark hi tech beats was recorded live at Sónar 2011. [...]

So this is festival season then isn't it!? Can't say I've been that wildly impressed so far. Basically it's just made me skint, I've had to hang out in the rain and watch a tiny man on a massive stage dj to a crowd of people who are staring and seem completely unprovoked to move or make any contribution to the world of dance, by busting some funked out hip hop treble step side wind glide biz, .….. Luckily though I remembered that main stages suck face so I wondered off to the second or even third stage and hark [...]

Last month the annual Sonar Festival took place in Barcelona, Spain, bringing another lineup of wonderful artists to a country that also found itself in the midst of protests and political turmoil during this year's festival. Attempting to smooth things over in the background was LA's own Teebs, whose set was heralded as one this year's best by critics. His original tracks are known to induce personal moments of deep tranquility and introspection, which the restless crowd was apparently quite receptive to, and the method he uses to tie them together in his live sets only seems to be getting [...]
