Allow SOIWT to stop gushing about bands for a second, and consider yourself alerted to Sofar Sounds ' Songs From A Room project. Chiefly London-focused, this innovative enterprise involves secret gigs by upcoming, genuinely decent talent in ridiculous venues - domestic living rooms, swanky Hampstead mansions and so on. Locations are disclosed via newsletter, Facebook and Twitter closer to the performance date; previous performers have included The Magic Numbers, No Flag Project and even one Robert Pattinson (no, really). And you know the best bit? They always cost bupkis. It's a sort of indoor Bandstand Busking . [There is a video [...]
Leonard Cohen was a itch I never chose to scratch until early this year at the beloved insistence of the woman I love. His second album, Songs From A Room, is in near constant rotation in our tiny home, Cohen's sparse, somber bits of storytelling daggers of sadness that continuously surprise me. His third album, [...]

with Arietta, Songs From A Room and The Darcy's I have to admit that I wasn't prepared to bid adieu to the boys in Oh No Forest Fires so early on in their career. The announcement of their breakup was a shock to say the least, considering the fact that, in my mind, they were just getting warmed up. Rajiv released a statement just prior to the show which indicated that there were no hard feelings and they even recorded a new EP to [...]
Sometimes I just don't want to follow the beat of new music. Thus, The Yester-daily Choice, the rare occasion where I share a bit of my love for things old and wonderful. I wish I could say I'm a huge Leonard Cohen fan. I've spent years of my life fighting with my older, sometimes smarter brother [...]

The Reason Songs From A Room Amos The Transparent Bovine Sex Club in Toronto, Ontario on June 3, 2009 Full Photo Set (32 photos) I wasn't planning on going out on Wednesday night, so I didn't really look around to see what was on. But around 5pm that night I checked my Facebook and saw a status update talking about the line-up at the [...]
I have to admit that I had never been to the Tattoo until last night. I was impressed. It's a nice open room with lots of space for the sound to go and unlike similar rectangular venues where the stage is facing a wall, there was very little bounce back. The sound guys did a really good job working with acoustics that must have been tricky. Kudos to them. It was also good to run into some friends I hadn't seen in a while and to also bump into the guys from [...]

I received a pretty decent little EP from a local band called Fleece Elves . Although the band has been playing together for a couple of years now, The Dreams EP is the first time that they've made product available to the public and they've got a sound that is warm and easy to absorb. Their style could best be described as easily accessible folk tinged pop music with the emphasis placed on the Americana side of things. The EP opens with the most upbeat song of the four, entitled Full Of Empty . It's [...]

In 2007 I saw Songs From A Room three times from August to December . The fact that I had only planned on seeing them one of those times is a testament to what a hard working band they are, as well as the caliber of bands that they have had the privilege of sharing the stage with. Their first EP was a throat shredding, mind numbing display of post punk with a leaning towards the hardcore. Yesterday, the band released their latest EP for digital download on iTunes and Dine Alone [...]

Who : Songs From A Room from Toronto. What : A song from an EP that just came out yesterday on iTunes by Toronto's Songs From A Room . This pick has been getting some regular rotation on XM 's The Verge , maybe you've heard it already? The video shows the band on a typical limo bowling night with a stop over at a fashion show (by Tim McCready, check out his addictive blog here ). [...]

Before we begin, if you didn't live in Southern Ontario or Western New York state in the early to mid '90s, then you'll need to read this for this post to have any sort of context. I was excited when I heard about The Lowest Of The Low being tapped to kick off the month-long 60th anniversary celebrations for the Horseshoe Tavern, having rediscovered my passion for the band earlier this year (see above linked post) and certainly liked the idea of seeing them again for the first time in over seven years. [...]

I'm not sure if anyone is really aware of this yet, but let me fill you in on something that I just noticed and is of extreme importance. It is f'ing Aug. 17th!!! Where did this summer go? It's probably in her suitcase on their way to Chile..... Got a message the other day from an avid kickballer, one time Los Angeles Dodger of Toronto and musician Nick Bechard about some fresh new songs that his band Song From A Room had ready. They're a 5-piece, almost all Windsor ex-pats now living [...]
