Boombar Records main-man Jowie Schulner has dropped a new tune that some of you might find a bit familiar. Like a distant memory, this track is drilled into many of our consciousness'. It's the music from the Green Hill zone of the Original 1991 Sega Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog, which Jowie has transformed into a storming Dreamwave epic. The tune lends itself amazingly to retro Synthwavey stuff, with it's soaring lead that was just made to be taken out of the green zone and into the nightdrive. This put a smile on my face all [...]
Flip book animation is a master art, and this does it like a boss. Plus, it's Sonic, who never did quite turn out to be Sega's Mario, but he's pretty cool nonetheless. [via geeksaresexy ]

G Scott - SkyLife (ft. A.J. Crew) Our homey G produced this song sampling "Robotnik Theme" from Sonic The Hedgehog. It is rumored he attempted to contact Charles The Hamilton, but he is busy being a crackhead/having AIDS/having cancer. Instead we've got A.J. Crew dropping choice bars on this joint. PREVIOUSLY: G. Graphic by Talia Fifteen years ago Bone Thugs-n-Harmony dropped "Eternal," a nasty free-flowing track with a sample from the video game Eternal Champions. The Super Mario Bros. theme gets remixed like crazy. Video games and music cross paths constantly, and there's plethora of bass-thumping tracks floating in our ears while we rack-up points. While we could all name tons of sweet background music, there are a few tracks that are just dying to be sampled. So without further ado, peep game.
Remix Artist Collective have built a pretty excellent portfolio of high profile remixes of U2, Yeah Yeah Yeahs as well some great left field stuff like Anamanaguchi. They've got a particular polish to their sound that I love. A RAC remix often takes rock songs outside their genre into a slick, beat driven style. Recently they tackled 'Wait Up (Boots of Danger)', a track from Tokyo Police Club's awesome release Champ , which has grown to be one of my favorites of the year. TPC released video for [...]
I was a Super Nintendo kid growing up. But even the biggest Nintendo nerds couldn't fake on Sonic . Mario games had more content, secrets and are arguably better in terms of replay value. But Sonic 1-3 were dope for their break neck speed, new moves and edgy flavor that truly showed they were a product of the 90's. The first batch of sidekicks were great too as anything created after Knuckles can kick rocks. Then the Sonic name fell off with one mediocre release after the other. You'd think that the franchise should've retired as [...]

"Issues" is the last single 810 is releasing before Glass Half Full and it will be ready to drop tomorrow. Mydus produced this track and I think the sample he used is some type of interpolation of a Sonic The Hedgehog stage song . 810 - Issues (Produced by Mydus) See the artwork for Glass Half Full after the jump [...]

Just came across this awesome website for those interested in collecting old school video game tunes like Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega, Goldeneye for N64, or Oregon Trail II for PC. Of course the site doesn't even begin to compete with the apparent nineteen million forums that exist on the subject, but it does succeed in offering an organized and strong selection. If you'd like to take your interest a step further and actually play these songs, here's some sheet music . Although these songs are incredibly nostalgic, I don't recommend them for [...]
![The Academy Is... Finally Give In, Become A Tribute-Video Act [Objects Of Affection]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1397152_lg.jpg)
The Academy Is... irritate me to no end when I'm forced to add the ellipsis to their name for accuracy, but I'm willing to let it go considering how much I've enjoyed their album Fast Times at Barrington High this year. Still, something's been missing. Something that would tie the occasionally angsty teen-rock lyrics of the band with the popular films that seem to inspire the band; something that would summarize one of those films to spare me the trouble of watching it again. YouTube, you always come through. [...]

Up until Kanye & Luda leaked, I had been exclusively listening to mixtapes. This isn't something I do on the reg, as I usually give them a once over & keep it moving. But in my extended listening, it became clear where the mixtape stands in relation to retail albums. Just like in baseball, it's the Minor Leagues. Think about it: just like players move up the ranks from single A to AAA, before moving on to the pros. New & established artists navigate through the mixtape circuit for different [...]
gotta catch 'em all! ah, the 90's. such a good, clean, fun time. or maybe it wasn't and i was just a naive young little boy. either way, no-one can deny that there was something completely awesome about that decade. the 90's brought around so many nifty trends. Sonic the Hedgehog , for example, is one of those timeless gems of a game that never seem to get old. the DOS-style game interface is still unbelievably fun to this day and the music... ah, the music... is just too good for [...]
