This particular podcast was somewhat railroaded by two different things, and hence has very little of the new music/inbox harvesting stuff you may have come to expect from Song, by Toad. Firstly, I went to see Jeffrey Lewis on Wednesday. He was supported by Seth Faergolzia from Dufus and covered 2+2=? by the Bob Seger System, which explains two of the songs. Secondly, I went out to visit a couple of pals on Thursday night. That resulted in an epic Pearl Jam-a-thon, so I was looking for some Pearl Jam to play today, only to happen [...]
Soulsavers - Kingdoms of Rain I'd never seen the official video for this. This is one of my favorite Mark Lanegan songs - the original is on his Whiskey for the Holy Ghost album. This Soulsavers version is a bit better produced, and I personally prefer it. It's got this great little guitar riff (2:17) which lifts up the depressing vocals a little bit.
Some of the best music I've ever heard has come from snowboarding movies. The new M83 track on the teaser from Brain Farm Digital Cinema's new movie "The Art of Flight" , coming this September, is another one to add to that list. According to Brain Farm's Facebook page , the song was a joint collaboration between M832s Anthony Gonzalez and Brain Farm's Curt Morgan. The song is still title-less. I've been holding off for about 5 days on posting this trying to get this song but they've been keeping it on serious lock down. An iTunes [...]

This song has a weird effect on me. I usually reach out to it when I'm under the weather. It doesn't make me feel neither worse, nor better. It just kinda numbs me - enables me to just sit and think of nothing...kinda waiting for that revival. And it's quite addictive. Why am I so blind With my eyes wide open? Trying to get my hands Clean in dirty water ( [...]

Bat for Lashes - Fur & Gold (Parlophone/The Echo Label) Captivating and mystic, Natasha Khan's bristling debut "Fur & Gold" is like a never-ending fairytale crossed with the gripping, heart breaking reality. The whole album [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , UK Mark Lanegan has announced a comprehensive solo tour of Europe, including eight shows in the UK to take place this April and May. The former Screaming Trees singer has not played a full solo tour since 2004, after the release of 'Bubblegum', instead performing collaboratively with Queens of the Stone Age , former Afghan Whig Greg Dulli as the Gutter Twins, and also working and performing with Belle and Sebastian' s [...]

For me 2009 was a good music year where I had no trouble finding entire albums that I loved to play over and over. Since I am not a musician, nor have I studied music, nor am I a professional music critic, I base my list of favorite albums and songs of the year on what I call "thrill factor," that indefinable something that makes me keep going back to an album or song again and again. I might think something is good, but if I experience no yearning to listen to it again, it is lacking [...]

And here are the top ten albums of the last year in music. As always, my choices are based on no scientific method or claims to objectivity. It's just what I loved. 10. Editors – In This Light & On This Evening In my mind, the Editors have always been the best of the new generation of post-punk bands drawing on the Joy Division school of songcraft. Their music was overly portentous at times, but managed to package up the doom and gloom in [...]
We are nearing the end of our Guest Top Tens now - this time it is the turn of Mrs Mackerel - her first guest post on the blog. Like Barry-Sean, Mrs M is a copywriter, unlike him she is a Sunderland fan, stationery addict, coffee connoisseur, dancer, and terrible backseat driver. She is the guiding light for our three Mackerel sprats, and has the biggest heart of gold you will ever come

Here it is. Year end review revival. The best of the best? Not really. The best songs of the year? Nah. The best songs since Mr.T & Hulk Hogan in Wrestlemania? Comeon. We're not cool advocaters around here, so chances are these songs aren't cool either. Only the ones I've particularly enjoyed and that didn't burn like toxic plastic when I put them in my mouth. Plus, we need breaks too. Actually...Yeah, these are the songs that warm the basement up. Just kidding, thats nuclear fission. Merry Christmas... Take it or leave it. Fuzzy [...]

We've know Barry Sean for a long, long time. We first met him in 1975, he likes West Brom, his dog Cyrille, making most excellent cakes, Midsomer Murders (no one's perfect) and music, especially Echo & The Bunnymen. He keeps one end of our office as untidy as he possibly can and makes tea too strong, but like we say, no-one's perfect. Last night he won the ten-pin bowling at the office do. This

A list of events taking place over the next seven days in Dublin. This week I'm most looking forward to the Richter party, seeing Neon Indian live for the first time, the U:Mack party featuring Battles et al and the Bring the Toys event in Twisted Pepper on Saturday (I'm DJing upstairs at the Comic Cast event FYI). Tuesday 8th December - Richter Collective Xmas Bash @ Twisted Pepper (€15) - Lily Allen @ The O2 (€39.20) [...]

As promised, here is the official soundtrack of the 4th season of Grey's Anatomy. Other than Grey's Anatomy, other hit shows like Gossip Girl, Chuck, Fringe, Glee, Dollhouse, One Tree Hill, Ugly Betty, House and many more. You've got to give a hand to the music supervisors of these shows for their success. The music is not perfect, but it's certainly entertaining. The show goes mostly for indie favorites like The National, Ingrid Michaelson, The Gossip, Tegan and Sara, The Bird and the Bee, Bon Iver, Feist, Goldfrapp, Rilo Kiley, Frightened Rabbit, The Republic Tigers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more. Soulsavers' new album Broken seems to have fallen on quiet ears since its release in August. The band's redemptive gospel-goth-rock & soul seems to have gotten more cinematic and sonically expansive since their album of almost two years ago, It's Not How Far You Fall, It's The Way You Land. Mark Lanegan continues to handle most of the vocals along with collaborators Ian Glover and Rich Machin.
