As one of the forerunners in the recent resurgence of metal, Avenged Sevenfold have captured the black spiked hearts of headbanging enthusiasts across the globe. Their lastest LP, Nightmare , debuted in July atop the Billboard 200 chart and the group have spent the last several months on the road selling out shows. Despite their momentum, the band now find themselves with one less member and some downtime in early 2011 after canceling their slot at Australia's Soundwave Festival . Thank God for Christmas music, amirite? Per West Coast Sound , drummer Mike [...]
Wanna know how I know this week was huge when it came to festivals news? Because we can now say the Red Hot Chili Peppers won't be at Bonnaroo (but they will be at Summer Sonic), Portishead will return to curate ATP's I'll Be Your Mirror UK , the Foo Fighters are confirmed to headline Sasquatch! , and the Chemical Brothers have been tapped to play Ultra Music Festival . Plus, many more heavyweights are confirmed to headline Europe's many music extravaganzas, and the Bonnaroo and Coachella lineup rumors keep coming in. And all that's [...]
Holy schnikes, what a week! Lollapalooza rolled into town for its sixth edition in Chicago, and I think many of those who attended are only just recovering. Despite a few clouds and a bit of rain, the fest went off without a hitch bringing some pretty stellar performances to the fans at Grant Park. But Lollapalooza wasn't the only story in the festival world this week. Lineups dropped, dates were announced, and fans around the country attended folk fests, metal fests, and everything in between. To keep you up-to-date on festival stories, we've compiled all of the week's [...]
After the whirlwind festival week we had last week, things have settled down quite a bit for the last couple of days. Luckily, Lollapaloooza is coming to top off the week with some fun and excitement like spicy meatballs on a plate of spaghetti. In two days time a lean, mean, festival-reporting machine of CoS staff will hit up Chicago's Grant Park to cover the hell out of one of the world's largest festivals. Be sure to check the website daily for all the latest Lollapalooza news and reviews, plus follow us on [...]
Some weeks we'll be lucky if three stories regarding festivals trickle through our newsroom. Other weeks the planets align in such a way as to generate so many festival stories that our site is practically bursting at its virtual seams. Well, this week every planet and its mother must have queued up because we covered a handful of festival stories each and every day of the past week. The news they delivered ranged from the heartbreaking to the hilarious, in a hodgepodge week that included tragic deaths, party announcements, and a convention center full of nerds. [...]
Hot damn, I forgot how awesome it feels to attend music festivals. Last weekend's Pitchfork Music Festival was my first fest of the summer, and although I had some pretty high expectations, Pitchfork met every one of them. While standing at Girls' set under the blazing hot sun, a cool breeze began to pick up right at the pinnacle of "Hellhole Ratrace" and reminded me that festivals are truly my favorite place to be. Between the dozens of fantastic acts, stand after stand of delicious food, and the good ol' outdoors, no place /event on earth can compete with a [...]
In case you haven't already noticed, we here at CoS love a good festival . We also love great festivals, mediocre festivals, stupendous festivals and even the occasional "meh" (shoulder shrug) festival. In short, festivals are our "thing" and if you are reading this, perhaps they're your "thing" too. So for you, the die-hard festival fan, or you the StumbleUpon user who has come across our humble site, we are resurrecting our Festivals in Brief feature. Each week we will compile the latest news regarding festivals (like interviews, recaps, and lineup additions), and squeeze it down into [...]

Shithouse band 'Closure In Moscow' have been kicked off the bill for the Soundwave Festival . Being the only Australian band on the line up you'd think they'd hold onto the opportunity tight. Although you never know, people are pointing the finger at promoter AJ. I had a job interview with the dude once upon a time ago and he seemed nice enough but i've heard conflicting stories. Ahhh, what a bitchy industry to be in. I wouldn't usually comment on something like this but [...]

Catch one of Reel Big Fish's holiday shows before they embark on an international tour
With its album This Is Thirteen having been recently released and its 2008 acclaimed documentary film, Anvil! The Story of Anvil , now available on DVD, Anvil has a few good reasons to hit the road. And that the Canadian metal outfit will do, beginning early next year, when it embarks on a five week long North American tour. The 30-date trek, which follows a U.K. tour with Saxon and SuidAkrA and proceeds an appearance at Australia's Soundwave Festival , will be dubbed "The Anvil Experience" and will [...]
