Rough Sleep deserves that you listen to it many times and each time you’ll be able to discover new sounds and new shades. And this is the power of this EP. Rough Sleep is really a breathtaking record that I have had great pleasure in reviewing. Have a listen and enjoy then, there is a great deal of potential here. By Daniela Patrizi

Marple's Dutch Uncles never do anything by the book. That includes their latest video for 'Bellio', off their January 2013-released album 'Out of Touch in the Wild' (it's great; read the review here ). It's a biologist's dream. Including this one. Watch it below. Catch the band on tour in the UK in May, including a stop on the Friday night at Liverpool Sound City (the Garage). Click here to view the embedded video. [...]

Exeter blues/punk band The Computers will be releasing their second album 'Love Triangles Hate Squares' on the 29th of April on One Little Indian, so it makes perfect sense that the group will be touring in support of it in May and June. So what does the tour have to do with TGTF? We've managed to blag a pair each to their London 100 Club (Wednesday the 8th of May) and Manchester Deaf Institute (Saturday the 11th of May) shows and we want to give them away to two lucky TGTF readers. [...]

The name of the band may be a bit of an oxymoron but Southampton band Welcome Pariah play music you certainly wont want to cast out. You can even use an oxymoron to describe their music as as contemporary psychedelic. [...]

The Cryptics were formed January 2012 in a remote practice room, in Hampshire, UK, after thrashing out improtu Chuck Berry and Rolling Stones songs and realising that a certain spark existed. Childhood friends Simon King and Andy Pritchard were the rhythmic backbone that began to fuse with Ryan Osborne's vocals and guitar, bringing to life the songs he'd written, bittersweet songs of recklessness, in life and love, with a sound blending the likes of The Strokes and Radiohead and elements of reggae and soul. More songs were written and the trio began playing local bars in Southsea and Southampton, building a [...]
Carrie interviewed the lovely Bo Bruce last week; you can read the entire interview here. Southampton's Gang Colours returns after the release of his debut LP last year with sultry new track, In Terms of Design. It'll also be featured on the forthcoming Where the Wind Blows compilation on BPitch Control , take a listen below:
I've recently been led to believe in Southampton FC full-back Luke Shaw being just about the South Coast's most precocious talent though as the dark ambiences of Cholombian here seep into the periphery of attention like a littoral mist, that may be all about to change. For Breathe Slow is a broody work of understated brilliance from the proficient youf – an intense hunk of instrumental hip hop, hemmed in with neat stabs of manipulated guitar and muffled beats which all render it pretty redolent of those more intricate bits on an Edan LP. An arresting one, [...]
We've always talked about supporting your local venue here in Thrash Hits. It's all very well going and watching some keg-chugging flavour-of-the-month yankee metal band sell out the Brixton Academy every so often, but the real ugly, gritty, beautiful heart of heavy music in the UK comes from the smaller places - exactly the kind of places that are going under faster than ever. One such venue under threat is the Southampton Joiners - a venue that's been crucial to the development of some of the South coast's best heavy bands over the last decade. To that end, [...]

The Uptights . One of the first bands I ever wrote about on AMBY. I've always admired the music and vocals from this band because they stay true to their inspiration: mod music, mod clothing, mod everything! The Uptights mod el an absurd energy in all of their songs which travels for miles, and the band's giving the music they love a mod ernized twist. With 2013 finally here and The Uptights having more music coming our way, we spoke to the lads about new funny laws they'd create, their upcoming EP, and more! [...]

‘Darlington Sessions #1’ is the start of a new collaborative music series from Darlington Road Recordings. Working in tandem with Cats? Aye! Records, the first (well, technically, second ) release from the newly founded Southsea studio sees Kelly Kemp, Giles Bidder (Great Cynics) and Roo Pescod (Bangers) working together to create a nine, completely new, stripped back tunes. Going (mostly) acoustic is nothing new for Kelly and Giles. The pair are accomplished solo artists in their own right, so it almost feels like Roo is being thrown to the lions by opening this record. Being least practiced [...]

Polio From: Southampton, UK. Lazy equation: (Future Of The Left + throwing rotting pig heads against walls until they break) x spite URL: Facebook / Twitter / Website Thrash Hits verdict: "Hey man, have you ever heard if this band Polio before?" Why can't more people email us about bands named after infectious childhood diseases? With our interest well and truly piqued (cheers, Thom), with two clicks of a mouse we were listening to some scratchy, snotty, howls-of-disgust-at-modern-liv ing punk-rock sneer. We [...]

London/Southampton 4 piece Ivory Seas have their debut single “Still Brooding” set for release on December 3rd. The song name is the ideal way to describe the melancholy mood this track sets. Both that song and fellow A side “Mothers Tongue” definitely have firm roots in darker waters, but the gorgeous, minimal melodies, work wonders over the carefully textured guitars. It really just goes down oh so smooth, becoming a trip so pleasant, you’ll plead to come back time and time again. Listen to both below. Still Brooding / [...]

Long may the fruitful output of south coast musicians continue. And here's the latest we've come across, Wild Smiles (aka Chris Peden), with his latest track "You Don't Care About Me". continue reading >>
