Spanish Prisoners live at Pianos One of my resolutions for 2012 was to make it out to more live shows during the week. Kudos to exfm for breaking me out of my shell with their party at Pianos headlined by Spanish Prisoners (and my latest discovery) Snowmine . I was quite mesmerized with both live both sets so I ask that you just take my word and catch Spanish Prisoners and Snowmine when they hit your local stage...you'll be doing yourself a favor. [...]

Late last year, Spanish Prisoners released their album, Golds Fool , via their bandcamp page. Even with such a quiet release, the band made huge waves on the Internet, and definitely captured our attention. They're back now with the second single from that record, which includes two new remixes that you can grab HERE . It's a soft number, but it definitely reminds me of the band's abilities to create emotion evoking songs that you can listen to time and time again. They've also [...]
The four members of Spanish Prisoners found each other in the winter of 2009, when the streets of Bushwick were covered with grey, fading snow. Songwriter Leo Maymind had just begun working at the largest nightclub in New York City; squeezing through crowds of thousands of drunken revelers that were caught in a breathless pursuit [...]

We are unfortunately a little late on posting about the psych/art rock outfit Spanish Prisoners and their debut album Gold Fools. Released back in October last year, and having gotten a handful of excellent reviews, I'm surprised that it did, for whatever reason, miss our radar. All though I don't so see much of a parallel to Destroyer as stated in this review , Spanish Prisoners' spaced-out, psychedelic art rock in an early 702s outfit sounds a bit like Bear In Heaven gone surfing, even though the song titles includes "Cadillac From Yesterday" or [...]

mp3: Spanish Prisoners - Downtown Chicagoland (guitar arp) Spanish Prisoners are releasing the new single "Downtown Chicagoland" today. The track closes out their very solid debut LP Gold Fools , released back in October 2011. The "Downtown Chicagoland" single comes with two alternate takes on the track including the guitar arp version, which expands on the song's dreamy melancholy tone in a deeper, more profound way. These alternate versions will also be included on the band's forthcoming mixtape PRIOR ART . [...]

Spanish Prisoners' self-released debut album Gold Fools was picked as one of NPR's five best albums Bandcamp albums of 2011. Guess what! You can get the thing for as name-your-price purchase, so FREE is an option. However, if you don't feel like throwing money the band's way through their Bandcamp, they currently have an active Kickstarter program going to purchase a van for touring. I'm sure many of you can find it in your hearts to throw the band $20 or more that will entitle you to some cool prizes courtesy of the band. [...]
Tweet vaso link Spanish Prisoners are looking to head out on a tour of the country, and they need a van to do it. They've started a Kickstarter drive to get the funds necessary for a tour van, looking to make stops in Austin for SxSW and perhaps a visit here at the foot of Lake Ontario? Help them out after you watch the above video from Breakthru Radio, and their official fundraiser video below.

Tweet vaso link This is far more delayed than I might have hoped, but I enjoy making this list of my favorite songs annually, so I can return to it and see where my thoughts were within the moment. Ultimately, this list serves mainly as a compelling iPod playlist. I concluded my first list in 2009 with 111 songs, and for posterity's sake, have continued along with that tradition. The actual rankings are generally quite fluid, as I could say [...]

I have a deep appreciation for efficiency. That's why I love digging through all the best-of lists from some of my favorite blogs. It's a great opportunity for me to find out about some gems that I might've missed out on this year and give them a listen. And that's how I found out about Spanish Prisoners . Some of the very best music blogs out there only had glowing reviews, Pasta Primavera described it as, " ... one of "those" albums. An album that makes you smile, makes you feel inspired, makes you want to [...]

Music blog gimmetinnitus.com had the rather brilliant idea of compiling a compilation of the best free albums of 2011 - and NYC tremolo-haze masters Spanish Prisoners topped it with their record "Gold Fools." This resonates with The Deli of course, because if the album is free, it means that the band is emerging, and we are all about emerging bands as you know. Dave Cromwell interviewed the band a few weeks before they played our Dream Pop Stage at CMJ 2011, you can read the full piece here . An older interview from 2009 can [...]

Tweet vaso link The year in music that was/is 2011 marked a departure from the prior two in which this blog has been in existence. This in the sense that, as opposed to waiting for albums from bigger bands one could classify as a favorite, there were far more unanticipated discoveries. I often talk of expectations, but this year I had few. For this year end list, I whittled down the list of the year's albums slowly to include those [...]

![SKI LODGE WARMED UP PIANOS ON FRIDAY NIGHT [PHOTOS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3885412_lg.jpg)
There's truly nothing better than getting to see the artists you love in action. We were so proud to present a stellar lineup of up-and-coming bands last Friday at Pianos, and we can guarantee that you'll be hearing much more from these groups in the near future. Starting off last Friday night was the Brooklyn-based project of Lauren Zettler, Lightyear (@iamlightyear). With a sound resembling a harder, richer Feist and a more serious Regina Spektor , Zettler blended her tinkling ivories with electronic highlights and big beats, opening up the show [...]

With so much going on in the month of October, I regret to inform you folks that I missed something pretty excellent, the brand new record from New York's Spanish Prisoners . The band has self released their album, Gold Fools , over at their web site, where you can pay what you want for it (please pay to support the band). There's a recent remix of the following track floating around, but I think the original epitomizes everything I love about this listen. The guitars trickle ever so gently, [...]
