Missing out on a big moment is so infuriating because you never hear the end of it. Fans of music get reminded all the time that they missed some huge event and unfortunately they "will never understand because x event changed everything." It is inconvenient that huge events are missed and we can't always be there but these huge moments are usually the culmination of a lot of smaller moments. Woodstock didn't happen out of the blue and almost a million people did not go to that farm in New York state for the promise of something, but rather a [...]
In early 2011, we published the Indiecision Guide to Upcoming Releases 2011 . In the guide, we listed (claimed) release dates of upcoming albums and EPs of Indian indie artists. Few artists stuck to their promised release dates, while most either postponed releases or didn't release records at all. In this yearbook, we've listed chronologically all the albums and EPs (that we could find) released in 2011. In case we missed a release, leave a comment or email kvlt at nh7 dot in and we'll add it to the list. January [...]
First of all I'd like to say thanks to everyone who's come to my gigs and supported my tour so far. I just had a wonderful gig at the Sentient Bean in Savannah. And last night I played at the Conundrum Music Hall in Columbia, SC. I'd like to send out a special thank you to Tom Law who booked me there and so kindly invited us to his home afterwards. Here's a little pic from Connect Savannah who did a really nice write up for my gig today and a video from last night. Tomorrow we're going [...]
In 1981, the UK Ska revival act The Specials had several songs featured in a movie entitled Dance Craze . At the time of the films release the label 2 Tone, which was owned by The Specials Jerry Dammers was in a declining state, the soundtrack to the film featured only 2 Tone artists, even charting at number five on the UK album charts. The soundtrack featured 15 of 27 tracks that were used in the film, one of the tracks not included on the soundtrack that is the main topic of discussion here is The Specials song "Raquel". [...]
Sparkcast? Spark? YES, any kind of fucking spark whatsoever will do the trick. I remember getting in trouble at my former day job a couple of years ago for writing something rather negative about that awful sensation of being back at your desk after the excesses and indolence of Christmas. I am not feeling negative about it now, which is good given I am self-employed, but I am certainly struggling to spark my brain back into something resembling life at the moment. So yes, I have two new releases to get moving, by Jesus H. Foxx [...]
It's been an incredible year in music for me. I mean, I actually sat down yesterday to count all of my blessings and there have been so, so many. Shaa'ir + Func are still going so strong and doing so well. In 2011, we received the Jack Daniel's Rock Award. We completely reworked our set. A couple of our gigs were named gigs of the year by NH7 actually. We've got a whole new team of people that are working together. P-Man has kind of become a permanent fixture in Shaa'ir + Func [...]

Vice Presents: Woodkid Special Engagement Live From Paris
The fine folks at Vice are hosting another one of their special engagements alongside Dell and Intel - and this one promises to be their best yet. They have lined up French indie artist Woodkid - aka Yoann Lemoine - to do a special one off performance from the first floor of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. If you're not familiar with the alluring talents of Woodkid, then all you need to do is watch the video for his spell-binding track 'Iron' which went viral in March last year and has clocked up more than 9 [...]

Old School Tuesdays:: Special Ed – Legal
I'll happily cop to this post essentially being a re-up (except for the Come On Let's Move It remix) of this rather enjoyable OSM from a couple years ago , but at this point I've done so many of these old school posts that repitition is inevitable. Plus it's Special Ed! And on the cover he's posing in a fantastically 902s blazer that looks like it was cooked up in a Junior High home economics class - not much that isn't completely enjoyable about the whole scenario here. Besides, a random [...]

R. Youfuckingkiddingme. Part 5
Editor's Note: The gripping conclusion to this story. Did you read the whole thing? I don't believe it. I sure as hell didn't. I came to in a haze. I was lying on hot asphalt, my face toward the sky, but my newly returned vision obscured by hot breath and saliva. I wearily slid back to find the source of my moistening. I was greeted with the dopey face of a spritely pit bull puppy. I rose to my feet and attempted to quell his exuberance. "Down boy. Girl. Pit bull baby, just. Come on." [...]

R. Youfuckingkiddingme. Part 4
Editor's Note: Sorry this took so long to post. Life got in the way. Jon.TheYellowDart has had this prepared for quite some time now. Welcome to part 4. Look for the thrilling conclusion tomorrow. Then I should be back to posting on Wednesday! I paid for two more years of BTV. I may as well use it! 8-11 Wouldn't you know it. Drum roll. Same music. But at least Omar. Oh yeah, his wife's white? Totally believable. And she baked him a pie. And she's apparently Southern/mentally retarded. At R.'s they're all [...]

My 2011: Gaurav Vaz
I say this about every year with the band ( The Raghu Dixit Project ), but 2011 was our best year yet! From topping the iTunes world music charts in the UK five times, to being on the Later With Jools Holland Show with some of the biggest acts in the world, to playing five sets at Glastonbury (deets here ), and closer to home, playing to some of the biggest crowds we have ever played to. Its been the perfect roller coaster ride that has had us on the edge of our [...]

"We Are 'Tanjorising' The Internet": The Google Chrome Ad Revealed
From Tanjore artist to successful businessman - the latest ad for Google Chrome tells the authentic story of Tanjore-local, G Rajendran, and how he keeps alive the dying art of Tanjore painting. By using Google Chrome, he creates his own website to facilitate his business/art. To increase his customer base, he uses Google's adwords, "a Google property to drive traffic to his website." Soon after that, this Tanjore man's small business goes global, and he begins getting orders from southeast Asia, Australia, New York, and Europe, so much so that he develops a system to ship his paintings across the [...]
