To be fair to Tom Meighan, the Spice Girls part of the Olympics closing ceremony was pretty grim, but that was a while ago now : “We were on tour during the Olympics but I saw some bits on telly. There were some horrifying bits, like The Spice Girls. That really didn’t do the place justice. “That was the most horrifying bit. It was just horrible. I think this makes Tom the first person to suggest that the Opening and Closing Ceremonies were somehow one horror after another. But why is he talking [...]

The closing ceremony at the London Olympics was quite a spectacle of confusion, theatrics, and cultural pride. There were plenty of highlights, and plenty of head-scratching moments, but one of the standout performances was that of the Spice Girls. Why? We're not sure, but there was something exciting about seeing these five women come together again on such a big stage to perform "Wannabe." From the performance we learned that the girls all look great, Posh is still the best (and she knows it), and Ginger was clearly ahead of her time and under-appreciated. God bless the Spice Girls.
Filed under: News Jeff J Mitchell, Getty Images LONDON (AP) - With a little British pomp and a lot of British pop, London brought the curtain down on a glorious Olympic Games on Sunday in a spectacular, technicolor pageant of landmarks, lightshows and lots of fun. The closing ceremony offered a sensory blast including rock 'n' roll rickshaws, dustbin percussionists, an exploding yellow car and a marching band in red tunics and bearskin hats.
The summer Olympics concluded last night in London, with a music and fashion-themed Closing Ceremony. The show, performed on a stage made up of catwalks arranged in the shape of a Union Jack, featured Pet ... read more
As you can tell from the amazing gifs above, the Spice Girls rocked the Olympics closing ceremony. In fact, the were the best thing in the entire Olympics. Victoria strutted, Geri danced, Emma sashay, Mel C jumped around and Melanie B showed us some real sexy. No matter what people say there was something about the Spice Girls that we haven't seen before and have yet to see in another band. Maybe its charisma. Not sure, but they know how to get your attention and keep it. Next, catching their broadway show! [...]
I keep thinking 'bits of that weren't so bad, were they?'. And then I remember Russell Brand bellowing The Beatles through a megaphone. The most successful bit was the Slim-J-Tempah sequence, which bubbled with energy, and was stuffed with shots of athletes bouncing about and singing along. Maybe it was a bit T4 On The Beach, but better that than the large swathes of a 1984 Radio One Roadshow beamed from a sleet-skittered Grimsby that made much of the rest of the event. It felt like the party the thing was supposed to be. But what [...]
Summer Recap: Part III While I’m ashamed to admit that I didn’t catch this live, I will still preach that if you didn’t enjoy that you 1) never experienced the 90s 2) have no soul. Sporty looks like she hasn’t aged a day. Find a couple more tracks I’ve been sitting on below as we continue to work towards new content. RAC - Hollywood Calvin Harris - We’ll Be Coming Back (Feat. Rumor has it that The Spice Girls are set to perform at the Olympics closing ceremony tonight at 11pm (Kuwait Time). The fivesome have kept it under wraps but every news source is reporting this alleged appearance that its hard to overcome. The ladies will most like take on the stage join such British greats as Elton John, The Who, The Rolling Stones and more. Well, we are mostly looking forward to the Spice Girls, but we would love it if Adele made a surprise performance. The Eurythmics would be nice, too. Duffy anyone? [...]

The Spice Girls singing on top of what-will-by-law-be-described- as-iconic-black-taxis? You've got to hope this is a piece of misdirection. I suppose if the Opening Ceremony was designed to convince the world and the nation that we can do surprising and amazing events without falling back on lazy cliche and the obvious, well-worn, and clapped out, the Closing Ceremony is intended to unwind that belief and return us to the sort of chumps who stick Mel B on the top of a Hackney Carriage and think it's a show. While they're dismantling the pop-up Water Polo venue, they're [...]
