Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - it's a mouthful, ain't it? Often abbreviated SSLYBY, this band is one that has been making music and performing for over 10 years. Formed in Springfield, Missouri in 1999, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin consists of John Robert Cardwell, primarily the vocalist, Will Knauer who plays guitar, [...]

We have been fans of the indie poppers Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin since we first heard them back in 2005. The Springfield, Missouri based four-piece has had a really consistent string of records since the start, and I always find myself gravitating towards several songs on every one of their releases. The new album, available in stores today, is no exception. Even though the boys still barely look old enough to drink, they have been playing music together for nearly a decade, and the new [...]

With the undisputed best name in musical history, SSLYBY are back with a new release of a 10 year career-spanning album. Whether you’ve heard of them before now or not (you’d probably remember if you had) this is the album for you. It’s a great introduction to a great band and means that after one listen you’ll be able to trick your friends into thinking you’ve been championing the Missouri band from the very start. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin slept on my floor once. I begged them to teach me the chords to "Pangea," a track from their then-fresh debut album. We played some other songs that night (there was a glorious Radiohead sing-a-long) but the band had to pass out before another day in the van. Had we had more time, we might've plumbed the archives; instead, I'll dream of what might have been with Tape Club , a career-spanning collection of demos, outtakes and tracks that didn't quite make their three studio albums. It's ramshackle and charmingly amateurish like the [...]
Much of the nation, most especially the mid-west and the south, have been trapped under a dome of extreme heat for the past month or so, while the Northeast has been dipping in and out of excessive temperatures for weeks. Here in the west, we've had a mild summer with below average temperatures for most [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

First up I love this bands name! Their music isn’t all that bad either. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is an indie rock band, not from Russia but from Missouri, USA. While the band has been around since 2002 I started to tune into them just now thanks to their third album Let It Sway released in 2010. Back in the Saddle and [...]

Os americanos da Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin disponibilizaram um vídeo para Back In The Saddle , música que abre o disco Let It Sway , lançado em agosto do ano passado. O clipe é, na verdade, um vídeo antigo do Aerosmith tocando ao vivo uma música de mesmo nome - que foi sucesso da banda por volta de 1977 - sincronizado com a Back In The Saddle do SSLYBY. In the five years or so I've been doing this, I can't remember a better year for songs. I actually spent most of Saturday ordering a top 100, went a little crazy and decided nobody needed me to rank seven hours of tracks. So here's a top 50. Every single one of these tracks is incredible, and yes, even Ke$ha. For the record, I allowed two songs per band in a few special cases because not including both Sally Seltmann jams would be a lie (though I did cut two Best Coast songs). Also, No. 51 is Lady Gaga ("Telephone") [...]
Someone still loves you, Halloween masks! Also, running. My review of the album is here . Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - "Sink / Let It Sway" : mp3 Tweet

More often than not, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is the best power-pop band in the world. Take "Everlyn," a track custom-engineered by Nobel prize-winning scientists to boggle your mind: After that first magnificent chorus, all cymbals and falsetto, it dips back into verses but careens out into an early bridge - when the second, final chorus comes, it's with the force of a freight train. Or an orgasm, but let's not get awkward - the Boris boys have that one handled. Let It Sway is the group's third album and first produced by [...]

To say the new album from Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin stopped me in my tracks would be an understatement. Whenever I hear them, I'm instantly transported back to the first time I saw them perform live at the on-again-off-again Midwest Music Festival in 2006. In the course of that four years, SSLYBY have done nothing but improve. Their third album Let It Sway (Polyvinyl) is triumphant, not-too-sweet indie pop with seamless edges in a direct line with The Shins, a collection of nearly perfect gritty pop songs with an achingly [...]
““Hailing from Springfield, Missouri” frequently precedes SSLYBY’s introduction in write-ups and reviews, that association of band and place meant to locate the name in a homey, small-town sound. But the thing is, the band isn´t really from anywhere — I mean to say, yes, they have a hometown, and of course they go to bed at night somewhere , but the need to preclude description with location (oh, they´re from that specific town ) is entirely at odds with what they write and sing about. Way back on “Oregon Girl” from Broom , Will announces to his [...]

As is to be expected, I'm behind the curb on pretty much everything; in fact, I wrote this post in May, but never got around to actually... posting it. Not too late, though. I'm pretty psyched up for SSLYBY's upcoming album Let it Sway , to be released on August 17. After their debut album Broom , their second and most recent album Perishing (released in 2008) was not quite what I hoped for, and "Sink/Let It Swim" gives me hope that Let it Sway will be true pop gem. [...]

Finally, the day has arrived. A couple of days ago, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin mentioned via Twitter something about a making-of documentary for their forthcoming LP, Let It Sway . The video is now available and is fun and personal, featuring footage dating back to the band's early days. Watch it after you click on that blue-colored text right down there. The band also announced U.S. tour dates today. 08/31 – St. Louis, MO @ Firebird* 09/01 – Urbana, [...]
