While it has been widely ignored, the post Britpop / pre "The Libertines/The _____/garagey" band era was kind of a dark period in UK music. UK had just witness one of the greatest talent and musical explosions of all time in the early 90s but by the late 90s, those bands had all either broken up, started to suck or completely change their sound. During this time, bands found it hard to garner success, specially with the charts being dominated by the Spice Girls/Westlife/whatever. To put it into perspective, Stereophonics was considered one of the biggest acts from the UK [...]

firstly, i was really surprised to see that cmj was still around, but it doesnt appear they actually are in the magazine business - the old business model. i subscribed for years from maybe like 93ish to maybe 2000? anyway, happy to see they're still around even though they've been really out of my brain since the end of my subscription. i knew they still did the cmj conference thing, but thought that may be in name only. either way.. its interesting to see who they, or the labels in this case capitol was pushing back in 03. most surprising [...]
Having already played renowned and industry established festivals such as Reading, Glastonbury, Pukkelpop and Roskilde festivals, Baddies are no stranger to hard work and slogging it in the music scence. Commencing work on album number two, the boys from Southend have played to audiences across the globe, from small UK towns, to Australia and Japan. Assisting in production of the record is a close friend of the band, producer Sean Genockey ( Futureheads , Reuben, Manic Street Preachers , Starsailor ) and Bronto has a distictly post-punk feel that is growning in mainstream [...]
You are outside life, you are above life, you have miseries which the ordinary man does not know, you exceed the normal level, and it is for this that men refuse to forgive you, you poison their peace of mind,...
That James Walsh's voice was perfectly suited for electro tinged music was evident by the Thin White Duke treatment of the Starsailor hit 'Four To The Floor'. However, even his biggest fan could not have imagined such a smooth transition into the world of sulky synth music. Robotic Heart Foundation is the coming together of [...]

Toronto - Sports and indie music seem to rarely intersect. Most of my conversations with my indie friends would result in something like 'Sports? bleeeeeeh'. I guess it all stems from jock-nerd relations in high school or something. It's okay to like both. Anyways, the NBA season arrives today and with the impending owners lockout for the next season, this might be the last bit of basketball you will get to see until 2012. For the indie fan in you, here's a quick guide to NBA, spoken in terms you might like. Miami Heat Like them [...]

Somehow, I missed this one the first time around. I remember when Starsailor emerged, circa 2002 with their single, "Good Souls," but failed to really keep a pulse on their career after that. So, when I first heard "In the Crossfire" a few days back, I thought to myself, "Hey, this new Starsailor song is pretty rockin'!" What I didn't realize was the song was released back in 2006 on the band's third album, On the Outside . The earnest lyrics and piano-driven Britpop of "In the Crossfire" [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Holy Hell It appears that Phil Spector found some time in the studio during his lengthy murder trial. According to the New York Daily News , Spector recorded an album with his wife, former Playboy model Rachelle Short. "My husband is so proud of me, and I'm so proud of him for withstanding what he's withstanding," she said of her work, as well as referencing Spector's jail time. So far, all that's known about the album is [...]
I enjoy picking a bracket yearly for the men's NCAA Basketball Tournament, otherwise referred to as 'March Madness.' My m.o. with selections is to end up somewhere in the middle of the pack after the first round, since I pick too many upsets, but eventually move towards the top because I end up picking [...]

I ran out of real estate. There is no more time to screw around. There are mere hours left in the present year. I have to tell you; I don't really relish the end of the year lists. I feel like, as a quasi blogger (I say quasi because I'm just a guy who like to tell stories as opposed to raving about the latest sounds), their is kind of an onus on Ryan and I to put out something that sums up the year that just whistled by. I've been cramming lately for what feels like an exam, listening [...]
Filed under: The Hit List , UK It was no less an authority than Chuck D who yelled out, "Don't believe the hype!" but the fact remains that music and the language of hyperbole go hand in hand. Even before Andrew Loog Oldham asked the question "Would you let your daughter marry a Rolling Stone?" the practice of creating a buzz existed in one form or another. Yet be that as it may, some bands suffer from too much hype. Whether they fail to deliver on [...]

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here. First, it's a new album from Starsailor, second, it's the album everyone has been wanting them to make for years. When Starsailor first appeared on the scene they were touted as a breath of fresh air, then next big thing, and all throughout the period pushing Love Is Here, the band really could do no wrong. Silence Is Easy was much touted, but
