Photo by PJ Sykes Raleigh, NC punk rockers Barren Girls are doing a free show at Steady Sounds on Saturday, March 30 to celebrate the release of their first 73, "Hell Hymns," on Merge Records (which comes out April 2). "Hell Hymns" is a collection of songs that "tackle paranoia, heartbreak and other personal issues through the lens of gritty, rowdy garage rock." Thanks to a hot performance at Hopscotch, Merge Records wanted them quickly and the girls have recorded a 4-track EP full of fast and raw [...]

E.D. Sedgwick will be performing with the amazing Hoax Hunters at Steady Sounds on Saturday, Feb. 2. About the band E.D. Sedgwick formed in 1999 when El Guapo bassist Justin Moyer and ex-Panoply Academy Glee Club drummer Ryan Hicks wrote a number of songs about celebrities. After releasing one eponymous record on Mud Memory Records and recording another, Edie was forced to stop performing in 2001 when Justin was diagnosed with epilepsy and could no longer drive on tour. (Ryan had no driver's license.) [...]

Warren Hixson has been catching peoples' ears lately. His fun blend of garage/surf rock has been playing on repeat for me since I heard his music last week. He'll be doing a record release show for his new album "Cruel Whims" at Steady Sounds on Oct. 26.

Steady Sounds celebrates its 2 year anniversary with a big party with a whole lot of great music.

If you don't go to this show, you hate all good local Richmond music. But in the chance you can't go, then head to Steady Sounds on Saturday for this.

I saw first saw Nelly Kate perfrom at the Listening Room last year and was blown away by her music. Her layered sounds and voice grabbed your attention like no other and I've been looking forward to seeing what else she has up her sleeve. Her album "ISH ISH," primarily an analog record release, is set to be released this week, and from what I've heard already, it's going to be one the best albums in Richmond this year. The first 300 copies of the album will be pressed on [...]

After hearing of a brand new record store in the city, I decided that as a fan of all things music, I needed to check this place out. Steady Sounds is located on the corner of Broad and Monroe Streets where ftwrk used to be. When I walked in, there were only three rows of vinyl albums (two along the walls and one in the center) and nothing else. I know it just opened, but it's bare bones in there. They do have a good collection of new and used vinyl. I'm excited to see what [...]
