Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus is touring this February with his band, which has a very commonsense name — Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks . The tour is in support of the Jicks' newish album, Mirror Traffic .… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

It's been eleven years since Stephen Malkmus released his self-titled debut with The Jicks, and on that first tour, during a stop at the old Gypsy Tea Room (on the big side), he made good use o... Continue reading "Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Delta Spirit and This Week's Show Announcements" >

And you'd get me up to speed on everything going on in your life-that new job, your new love interest, or that new zany electro-twee trio from Brooklyn-in the comments section. I miss that. It's been a fantastical year for The Days of Lore , filled with all sorts of life-shaping events ... ahh hell, here it is in digestible list form: 1. I got married! Yes, married! Me! Married! To [...]

A true sin in this world is ignoring art. But we do. Our world works too fast. Our eyes have too big of stomachs. We digest without reflecting. We rely on our subconscience to dig deeper. This is life in the modern world. Our main priority: time. There is no greater asset. Though, here's a piece of irony: A real piece of art is a physical representation of time. So, what's our excuse? Don't worry, you don't have to answer. Just an introduction, really. Here's the real meat: A couple years ago, I tapped my closest friend Cap [...]

You should have seen the deliberation room after we finished the lists. Papers scattered across the floor, blood and coffee stains on the carpet, I think at one point Kenny threw his laptop at Stuart (it just barely missed). But it makes sense, because each one of us are so passionate about the music we loved this year. So, check out what music meant most to each of our wonderful writers- Also, be sure to check out our top songs of the year (100-51 / 50-1 ) and top albums of the year [...]

The best albums are much more than a collection of stand out songs. Like anything successful, a great album finds multiple parts coming together as one; accomplishing moods, textures, and developments not possible by any one singular piece. The best albums force you to take a step back, to not only look at each moment but to examine how that moment fits into a larger picture. Perhaps most important, the best albums are constantly evolving begging for repeated listens to show you all of their ins and out. Check out the 50 albums that kept us coming [...]

The Le Guess Who? festival begins today and runs till Sunday evening in Utrecht. One of the big names at the festival is Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks. Being the generous soul that he is Malkmus has also donated a playlist to the organizers of the festival. But it's not any old playlist, it is in fact the playlist used for the Pavement reunion gigs from all of their shows on their last tour (the music you here when you walked into the venue and wait for the groups). Anyway here it is: http://soundcloud.com/leguessw ho11/stephen-malkmus-the-jicks -tape

Just when you thought the festival season was over, that it was safe to hang up any notion of seeing in one sitting a full working day's worth of bands until next year, along comes Constellations to sweep away the November blues. (The 12th of November, to be exact.) In the style popularised by ATP's Butlins jaunts, this is a single-venue indoors one-dayer, using the fantastic facilities at Leeds University as a base for a five-room shindig. At this stage in the year one might be wary of repetition; and whilst there are some [...]

Constellations 2011 By Russell Warfield November 12, 2011 This year's Constellations Festival was a double-decker treat for me. Not only was it a second straight year of excellent music at Leeds University Union (and only the second year in total, to boot), but it was also the first time that I managed to get back oop n'rth after graduating from the university earlier this year. Gorgeously decorated stages aside, it was a joy to roam around the place, enjoying performances, supping on pints which didn't require [...]

I think Coldplay may have set an all-time record for prime time performances in support of an album. Watch their two performances from SNL w/Emma Stone. You can read about Malkmus moving to Berlin in this in-depth interview with GQ over here. Lastly, you can get a new taste from Little Boots. She teased us with a mixtape last week, but new material has surfaced below. Coldplay-Every Tear Drop is a Waterfall (Swedish House Mafia Remix) [mp3] Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks-Tigers [mp3] [...]
