We're big fans of genre fusing at HMCMB. Maybe it's because it's easy to write about, maybe it's because we've had our share of landfill indie, or maybe it's just because it sounds great. That's up for debate, what isn't, is the promise of Courts. The Essex lads came to our attention via their brilliant session on Mahogany Blog (above). Though having looked through our iTunes, there does seem to be an early recording by them from back in June last year... Odd. Mysteries aside, these guys really know how to get ears pricking. The Essex lads blend [...]

It's been an excellent year for Joyce Muniz , with some superb remixes and her debut LP on Exploited, all supported by taste makers around the Christopher Columbus. This latest release has got to be one of her finer achievements of 2011, a record on K7 is by no means a small feat. But the Austrian babe has put her moody house touch down for what is surely the last of her 2011 tank of gas. A very familiar pad sound sets the tone for things to come, (I think it's from [...]

Going all the way back to 1988 for some early Stereo MCs. This is from the time when they were much more strongly hip hop and their music was heavily influenced by US hip hop and funk, rather than finding their own sound. More from a previous post here. Today's track is the B side to the What is Soul? single. Stereo MCs - What Is Soul? (The Good, The Bad And The Rob B Mix) Buy

Sunday brings a third day of quality music over to Bingley, a place where most artists will admit they've never heard of, and only a few have ever played. Bingley Music Live has really brought big name acts out here and made a name for itself over the last few years and as the third day begins, you get a sense that it's now an established festival that supports both local and up-and-coming acts as well as the all important ticket selling, fan pleasing headliners. Having not learnt my lesson from yesterday, [...]
Emperor's Nightingale is, despite its inconsistencies, a vital Stereo MCs album, a phrase you wouldn't expect to utter in 2011. Stereo MCs. The very name evokes a bygone era, if it evokes anything at all. Baggy pants, "Baggy" music, EMF and Jesus Jones. Those were the big trends in English indie music when Stereo MCs' big hit, Connected, was released. That album's success belied the fact Stereo MCs were the one-and-only "Old School" British hip-hop act, sharing studios and guest appearances with Native Tongues members. Now, the very term "MCs" in a band name is...

The big boys of British rap, Stereo MCs, bridge the gap between genres with a propulsive beat....

The Stereo MC were almost credible Before they got synch for phone adverts the world over. What will become of Kozzie? Perhaps he'll get a deal with Walls Dairy and become the Urban face of the Pzazz Ice Creams. Lick Dat.
"There's a point, when you're in a certain headspace, where you feel you can actually do anything we want to do, and not really have any preconception about it," says Nick Hallam. And for him and his long-time Stereo MCs partner, Rob Birch, their journey into sound has been constantly defined by the battles they've [...]
Jamie Cullum joins forces with Stereo MCs for the video for their first single, "Boy."
This one takes off at about 2 minutes, so hang in there. Great track and this is what a fan wants in a video. Stereo MCs !
"There's a point, when you're in a certain headspace, where you feel you can actually do anything we want to do, and not really have any preconception about it," says Nick Hallam. And for him and his long-time Stereo MCs partner, Rob Birch, their journey into sound has been constantly defined by the battles they've had to fight for creative freedom - not with record companies or industry figures, but from the pressures they put themselves under. Britain's first global rap stars, Stereo MCs paved the way for the Plan Bs and Dizzee Rascals. They were the first [...]

London hip-hop pioneers Stereo MCs return with a new full-length album which sees the group challenging expectations and incorporating an upbeat, song-based approach. Emperor's Nightingale feel like the next logical step forward for a band who've only ever been about making music that's true to hip hop's sense of limitless creativity and do-what-feels-right spirit. Check out 'Manner' for a taste of the new material. www.stereomcs.com/

The Stereo MCs are back! They have a new album, Emperor's Nightingale out on August 30th. "Manner" is the first, and pretty impressive single to be released from it, and as you'll hear below, still features a strong hip-hop meets electro vibe. They sort of remind me of Daft Punk or maybe even Basement Jaxx in that they've mastered the art of still being prominently cutting edge with their musical influences, but giving it a polished, pop-friendly sound (and for once I don't mean that as an insult, hehe) at the same time. Looking forward to hearing more of the [...]

UK hip-hop outfit Stereo MCs waxed some pretty funky grooves back in the day. The trio are probably best known for their crossover party jam "Connected," but they've also done some amazing albums and remixes over the years. The MCs are now on the comeback trail, and they've just dropped "Manner" from their upcoming album Emperor's Nightingale . To our ears the song is super melodic and a little more streamlined from the rawer sound they displayed on 33-45-78 . But hey, times changes and so does music. Check it out and let us know what [...]

Stereo MCs funky, hip hop gets chilled out with a massive spliff courtesy of Sabres of Paradise. Another pair of lengthy mixes at over nine minutes each. This loses all the vocals and concentrates on a head-nodding groove for the terminally wasted. A supremely summery pair of mixes, maxing out the organ sound.
