Download: Fair Fjola - "Summer Song" If you are making a mixtape I dare you to find a better side-one track-one than "Summer Song!" I heard Fair Fjola's "No One Gets Any" for the first time early Monday morning and it's pretty much all I've listened to since. As a matter of fact it's so [...]

The Ghost Of Her by Hurricane Bells On October 25th, Steve Schiltz is releasing Hurricane Bells' second disc, Tides and Tales , on his imprint Invisible Brigades. This 12-track / 40 minute disc builds on the melancholy late-night vibe of 2009's Tonight is the Ghost but, this time out, Schiltz utilized a full band during the recording process which leaves this disc sounding more cohesive than its predecessor. Contributing to this disc are: Ashen Keilyn (Scout), who's toured with Hurricane Bells from its inception; Christian [...]

It's been quite some time since we've heard from Steve Schiltz and his solo project known as Hurricane Bells . In my personal opinion, the guy's 2009 LP Tonight is the Ghost was one of those highly underrated types from that year . Fast forward to the present, and a new song entitled "Possibilities" has sprung up and shows even more promise from the project. A sophomore album, Tides and Tales , is said to be out on October 25th Download: Hurricane Bells - Possibilities [MP3]

On March 1, 2011 one of our more favorite groups Hurricane Bells released a live album named Live At The House Of Blues San Diego (iTunes). The album marks the band's second album to date after Steve Schiltz's transition from the beloved Longwave back in 2009. The live album includes mostly all songs from HB's debut album Tonight Is The Ghost (which gave a 9.1/10 here ), with the exception of their fantastic track from the Twilight: New [...]

DOWNLOAD: Hurricane Bells - "Tonight I'm Going to be Like a Shooting Star" (Live) Hurricane Bells just released the video for "The Waiting Song" (directed by Bill Moldt), the first from the band's upcoming "Down Comes The Rain" EP. The video premiered on AOL's Spinner blog. "The video was made by the one and only Bill Moldt, using very old footage found in his grandfather's attic," Schiltz told Spinner. "Apparently, the elder Moldt was also a video director. Bill took [his grandfather's] footage and made a new film out of [...]

DOWNLOAD: Hurricane Bells - "This Year" (from Tonight is the Ghost ) Hurricane Bells will release a new EP, " Down Comes The Rain ", on September 7th, 2010. " Down Comes The Rain " was recorded by band architect Steve Schiltz in his Brooklyn, NY, apartment and Queens, NY, studio over the past six months, during breaks from touring in support of the band's debut album, Tonight Is The Ghost . As with that album, Schiltz entirely wrote, recorded, played, and produced the EP [...]

Brooklyn's Hurricane Bells are playing a headlining show tomorrow night at Union Hall prior to heading down to SXSW next month. Hurricane Bells is the new solo project by Longwave guitarist/front-man Steve Schiltz. Schiltz wrote, played, recorded, and mixed the entirety of Tonight Is The Ghost - a moody, gorgeous mix of somber undercurrents and chiming guitars bathed in echo and reverb. The disc is currently available digitally through Vagrant Records and a special-edition physical release of the album will be announced shortly. Tickets for tomorrow night's show are [...]
Today Hurricane Bells premiered the new video for their song "Monsters" on AOL Music's Spinner blog. The haunted Bill Moldt-directed video can now be seen here. "Monsters," featured on the platinum-selling soundtrack of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, is a b-side of the band's debut album Tonight Is The Ghost, which is available digitally now via Vagrant Records. A special edition physical release of the album will be announced shortly. A few days after a February 11th in-studio performance on WRXP's The Rock Show with Matt Pinfield and Leslie Fram, Hurricane Bells will headline a hometown show [...]
While on tour in India, Ashen and Steve from Hurricane Bells came across this group of young Indian girls at a temple near a beach. The girls recognized them from posters promoting shows in their area and asked Steve and Ashen to sing for them. Hurricane Bells are back in the States later this month and are playing a show at Union Hall with Falcon and Scout on February 17th. Tickets are $10 and doors are at 7:30PM. DOWNLOAD: Hurricane Bells - "Christmas Don't Be Late" Hurricane Bells/Longwave main man Steve Schiltz has released a cover of "Christmas Don't Be Late" ( The Chipmunk Song) as a free download. This stripped-down acoustic version of the song, with Steve accompanied by Ashen Keilyn (Scout) on vocals, sounds nothing like the ghastly Chipmunks version. Steve released his first solo disc last month under the name Hurricane Bells (available digitally through Vagrant Records). The new disc, Tonight is the Ghost , has [...]
Vampires continue to make women across the world swoon, and their appeal is only heightened by the soundtrack that accompanies such skill. Sometimes that music is a mix of talent, preparation and pure luck; Brooklyn-based Hurricane Bells didn't even know he'd hit the big time until after it happened. Hurricane Bells, the solo side project of Steve Schiltz, was something of a secret for the musician. Most of the songs Schiltz wrote were for his band, Longwave , and the ones that didn't quite fit stylistically were cast off to the side. Schiltz eventually began [...]

Not really sure how we originally missed Hurricane Bells , the new solo project from Longwave lead singer/songwriter Steve Schiltz. The band/side project of Mr. Schiltz just released a debut album on Vagrant this week called Tonight Is The Ghost and we've really been enjoying what we hear. Before we make some time to give the album a proper review, check out this single "This Year". It starts as a bit of a slow burner and then slowly builds into a poppy little tune that won't be getting out of your head anytime soon. [...]

The November 11, 2008 release of Secrets are Sinister marks the end of a bittersweet three-year hiatus for Brooklyn's own Longwave and the beginning of a somewhat new start for the band. In a phone interview from the road in Portland, Oregon, lead singer Steve Schiltz , answered my questions about life on the road, the making of Secrets are Sinister , and the one thing every fan needs to know about this band. Toying with mainstream success for sometime now, working with mega-producers Dave Friedman and [...]

Longwave , the Brooklyn, NY based indie rock quartet are set to release their fourth album "Secrets are Sinister" November 11. Their new album features soaring guitar melodies, huge epic atmosphere, grinding bass and Steve Schiltz's voice ringing louder and clearer than ever before. They were previously dropped from the RCA record label, presumably because of the shake up of the band's line-up which at the time seemed rather ridiculous because I felt that their "There's a Fire" album showed incredible potential, even moreso than "The Strangest Things". I suppose the joke's on RCA now, since this [...]
