The St. John's are Jordan Meredith and Louis Johnson, a singing songwriting duo who met in Florida, moved to New York for a while, changed their name from Augustine and now reside in Nashville. Their music, a mix of frisky acoustic pop and Americana-shaded folk, features gorgeously entwined vocal harmonies that have drawn comparisons to everyone' favorite Nashville breakout benchmark, The Civil Wars. Meredith and Johnson are currently writing songs and assembling musicians for their 2013 debut album but gave us a peak of what might be in store with a new four-song Live Sessions [...]

Louisiana based emcee Luke St. John caught our ears last year with several quality songs and releases . Around this time an up and coming beatmaker from Florida by the name of Carnage hit me up with his latest project and amongst the tracks there was one in particular that had me pressing replay. With both artists sounds on rotation, we at The Word Is Bond had a talk amongst ourselves that quickly concluded in the pursuit of organising a collaboration. Now we present to you the above track: "Suns Of Kemet". Major thanks [...]

Some new material from Rob St. John has made its way round these parts this week. The promo single Sargasso Sea is a bit of a belter. You can listen to it right here. It's a five minute intense of darkly intense tunage that is a perfect soundtrack for a miserable November weekend. Saragossa Sea is drawn from the forthcoming release Weald that is being released through Song By Toad Records on 21st November. [...]
A few weeks back I babbled a wee bit about a Rob St. John and Ian Humberstone split 7" (short version, it's really blooming good) and now with the release of Weald, Rob St. John's new album, just around the corner there's a new, free single available to share with you. Like Your Phantom Limb, the last single, I find myself incapable of doing much more than pointing at Sargasso Sea and shouting "THIS IS ACE!" so just a listen to it below and download it if you like it, it is free after all. [...]

As we get closer and closer to the official release of Weald, Rob St. John's debut album, we figured one last freebie was worth offering up, and if you still aren't into it, then frankly there's no redeeming you, sorry. After the gorgeous Your Phantom Limb (available to preview and to buy on 73 here ) we figured something bigger and more upbeat was in order, to showcase the full range of the album. Sargasso Sea may start out small, but it builds to a great crescendo of harmonies, charging forward with forceful [...]

Artist : Rob St. John Title : Weald Label : Song, By Toad Release Date : 21st November BUY IT Singer-songwriters have always had a hard time. It's got to the point now where the term is seen as a whole genre in itself when all it really describes is one person and a guitar; which of course has an endless amount of musical outcomes. Thankfully [...]

Malky from eagleowl asked if a friend of his could come along to Rob St. John's album launch the other week and take some pictures. Well he did, and despite the lighting being a bit of a challenge, they've turned out beautifully. The gentleman in question is Iain Stewart, whose website is here , and here is a small selection of pics from Pilrig the other week. Thanks - they look fantastic!
Scotland's Rob St. John plays haunted electric folk music and has a great sense for lyrically playful language. You can get an impression of that in his video for " Sargossa Sea ", first single taken from his debut LP Weald , out on 21st November via Song, by Toad Records . Rob St. John - Tumblr

Cold War Kids, with Young Man / Mr. Small's / 11.05.2011 / 8:00 PM / $20 Words by Jim Sometimes you just need to jam it out, man. The house is yours. Maybe it's Friday (but it doesn't have to be). Turn the fucking speakers up and just do it. Pull out dance moves that your girlfriend or boyfriend has never ever seen, you know, the ones you'd only attempt in public if six beers deep. It's about freedom and letting the music wash over you. It's about [...]

I mentioned this a few weeks ago when I told you about Ian Humberstone's half of this gorgeous split 73 single. Well the vinyl itself comes out today, although those who pre-ordered theirs should already have them, so I thought I might take the opportunity to share Rob St. John 's side with you as well. Both the songs were recorded by Ian on a reel-to-reel tape recorder, and the artwork for the single itself uses photography by the two artists. Ian and Rob have been friends and collaborators for years, so there's something really [...]
