Listening to Shackleton’s new record is what I imagine hearing your brain would be like. Short bursts of percussion and reverb line the album, swelling across pristinely-filtered synthesizers garbled voices, and sounds so swaddled in delay they’re impossible to decipher. Bass is less a set of frequencies than a mindset in Shackleton’s tunes; its ominous rumble is omnipresent but never quite crests. The word “simmering” comes to mind but I can’t think why. It’s fascinating music and alien in the sense that its logic is totally opaque. (I said as much but meant it differently when I [...]
Starting out as a simply a 'recording duo', Felix Fung and Nathalia Pizarro quickly found that little spark that all new bands need; and soon enough Chains Of Love grew into a six-piece band and unleashed the fuzzy, reverb-drenched beauty Strange Grey Days LP. With a stunning new video just released, and a bunch of UK dates announced for later this year, we caught up with Nathalia for a wee chat about it all... Hello! How was your [...]
Just over a week ago an iconic collaboration surfaced between two experimental wunderkinds. This track was made possible by Austin Peralta , spawn of the almighty Z-Boy , Stacy Peralta, consorting with homie and fellow Brainfeeder heavy-weight and VJ extraordinaire, Strangeloop (David Wexler). A euphonious yet necessarily smutty anthem that a west-coast summer's success hinges on. This is the first track of Van Detta's (Vanessa Fernandez) that has made it's way into the low-life's library, but we are blown away with this Singaporean surprise, thus will be keeping a close eye on her and her glorious throat. [...]
CLICK IMAGE TO VIEW VIDEO Ok this isn't the first time Mr Green's been featured on Word Is Bond but this is hella dope. Rime, a notorious graffiti artist from Jersey, hooked up with Mr. Green for a 'Live From The Streets' episode: This episode I made a beat out of footage that our boy Rime took while he was in Miami for Art Basel. It's the first time we've done anything like this (used someone else's footage) and we're honored that Rime asked us to do it. This opens up a [...]
Henri Rousseau never went to the Jungle. He spent all his days in Paris and surrounds, meticulously painting images of nature that were anything but 'natural'. He copied his designs from botanical gardens, zoo pamphlets, and children's books, depicting animals that would never be seen in the same environment. Once he even painted a hand of bananas growing upside down. His paintings are naive, flat and disjointed. This playlist is a musical equivalent to Rousseau paintings - "Jungle" music made by westerners. Electronic emulation of african sounds, drum machines instead of djembé. Starts off mellow before moving into more disjointed territory. [...]
This is super nice. A compilation of almost 2 dozen mellow chill beats. No idea who put this together; I'll try and find out cos I wanna give him or her some credit. Found this on Mark Aubert's Facebook page (who's featured in this), check our previous mentions of him here and watch this space for a new drop from him real soon. Also features Ichiro_, check out his previous stuff too , and Repeat Pattern, Dil Withers, and a load more. [...]
Douglas Martin also enjoys Dunes . In spite of garnering comparisons to nearly every old “weird” singer / songwriter on the block (Skip Spence, Roky Erickson, Chris Knox, etc.), there’s something remarkably distinctive about the music of Amen Dunes . For starters, he sounds like he’s singing words from a different language. Sometimes it sounds like he’s not even singing words at all. While the aforementioned artists are all rightfully assem bled under the psych-rock banner, Damon McMahon takes the genre to different places, instilling dissonance, rumbling guitar noise, and [...]
Mournful, woozy guitar plucking, echoing chords and a chorus of ethereal pitch-bent vocals unroll over a shuffle of riding-a-bicycle-down-a-French -seafront beats in this unsettling but lovely oddity from Conan Mockasin. By turns jaunty and haunting, “Faking Jazz Together” might mean something incredible. It might... Read more..
Knxwledge. is a dude I've kept my eye on for a while. The sheer quantity of beats he makes (this is his third release THIS MONTH) is kinda breathtaking but they're all dope too. I hadn't put up post on him for a couple of months though so I thought I'd put him his latest drop and actually it's probably my favourite yet. On the Rugrats hype aye. 12 tracks 8 dollars is the facts of the album. STREAM/BUY 'FLOWRS.EP' ON BANDCAMP HERE He has a beat on [...]
Hollywood director and movie star Clint Eastwood doesn't seem to have a Twitter feed. Too bad: the pithy one-liners he's known for in movies such as Dirty Harry seem well suited to the medium. "Go ahead—make my day." But there is a Clint Eastwood on Twitter. Actually more than one, but the first one that turns up if you do a search is @Eastwood_ , with a handsome black&white photo and a locale of California. It's actually the account for a fan website, as is fairly readily apparent [...]
Adana Twins feat. Digitaria – Reaction (Original Mix)
German disco-deep house siblings Adana Twins have teamed up with Hot Creations ' Brazilian duo Digitaria for their latest offering "Reaction" out today on vinyl on Jeudi Records. The Adana Twins, best known for monster tracks like "Strange" and "Everyday," have received a shower of attention from Radio 1 and the likes. In the last year they've been featured on not one but two of Pete Tong 's " Fifteen Minutes of Fame " segments and have really had the opportunity to showcase their housed-up but time-honored sound. We think we'll be seeing more and more [...]

Maceo Plex & Seth Troxler – Live @ BPM Festival (1.7.2013)
A festival we wish we could have experienced (ya, bummer, tell me about it) - The BPM Festival has more major acts this week than I have adverbs in my vocabulary. But what's new with festivals these days? The need to compete amongst this huge, big budget shows only drives crazier line-ups, more unreasonable ticket [...]

Bermuda Star – Where The Rainbow Ends (2011)
