"Stay" has heavy influence of 60s girl groups such as The Shangri-La's, The Ventures, and The Ronettes with some surf rock mixed in. Think a more poppier Best Coast or Dum Dum Girls. Disclosure continue to impress. Seriously, these brothers have yet to release a track that I dislike. They just know how to get my booty shakin' with infectious beats. Their newest cut "When A Fire Starts To Burn" is one of their best yet, a clubby number met with a repeating vocal sample ("When a fire starts to burn, right / and it starts to spread"). It's pulsating, four-on-the-floor goodness. I'm as excited as ever for their debut album Settle to drop. Settle is out on June 3rd.
My favorite Disclosure releases a song that will make you want to dance in ways you didn't know your body can move just in time for the bbq'ing and drinking of Memorial Day Weekend. Hailing from Canada and going only by the name of DAVIDS, this is the product of a move back into his parent's house and features vocals from Mitch Bowden. Early last week, Montreal's Ryan Hemsworth dropped the lead single "Perfectly" from his Still Awake EP, which he made available to stream in its entirety. It's another notch in the young producer's ever-expanding belt, which includes countless remixes and mixtapes just from the first half of 2013 alone. Good lord , Nacho Picasso . This new song, "F*ck Rio", is insane, through and through. I'm not sure where the audio of the woman, Rio, stems from and if it's actually some groupie who flipped out on the Seattle rapper, but that doesn't really matter. The track is essentially a spaced-out shot of vitriol delivered through one of hip-hop's finest cold-hearted talents. Capturing the story of his grandfather's relocation from Arkansas to Chicago in 1954, F.Stokes paints a different picture of a city that has been illustrated an awful lot in recent hip-hop.
