Video: Sami – “Go On Darling”

Sami - Go On Darling (Official Music Video)
Blogfather Marc introduced me to Sami a few months ago with her Willie Nelson cover of  "Crazy."  Signed to King Fantastic DJ/producer Troublemaker’s Hollyrock records, "Go On Darling" marks Sami's first single and video with the masterful label who has been working on her debut. Before this though, she "spent a year studying music therapy and volunteering at a home for people suffering from schizophrenic and bipolar disorder as the principle music therapist." Pretty admirable. Also, pretty telling as to her sound: whimsical and dreamy, delicate electronics and tranquil images of birds at the windowsill [...]

One Timer (Stream): Blazing Hips – Cheetah

One Timers are quick hits to keep your ears fresh throughout the day. Get down with these tracks, sans a bunch of words clogging up your brain. Wondering what a real one timer is? Watch this . Hint: He shoots, he scores! - Blazing Hips are back with their second single, "Cheetah", picking up more or less where they left off. It's hard to pick my favorite aspect of "Wolf" , but it probably boiled down to the vocals...fuzzed out, yet still commanding, they were quite [...]

Upbeat Fun from Honeymoon

Upbeat Fun from Honeymoon Clearly I'm in the mood for upbeat tunes today, and this one is definitely another to add to my list for the day.   Honeymoon is a duo from LA, who are in the process of working on a full-length release.  While their at it, they've leaked this new song, which shows them dabbling with various elements from across the musical landscape.  It all revolves around pop, but they branch across varying genres to include space-age oddball moments, but also reach across varying decades for touchstones.  Give it a listen and let me know what [...]

Listen: Embers- Part of the Echoes

Listen: Embers- Part of the Echoes As we slowly but surely reach summer (well, the clocks have gone forward at least), the subconscious search begins for a band who can soundtrack those midsummer nights and make your overcast BBQ feel a bit more cinematic. Luckily, we may have found a sunset montage worthy future in Embers. They haven't been around for long, but the Manchester quartet already have a majestic, fully formed sound, which is perhaps why we're so excited for their forthcoming new single which hit the web yesterday. 'Part Of The Echoes' is vast and grandiose, making an impact with urgent vocals [...]

oOoOO – “Mouchette”

oOoOO – “Mouchette” As we previously reported, oOoOO will release his full-length debut,  Without Your Love , on June 24. And even though some cuts will feature guest vocalists, he's more than comfortable going it alone on cuts like "Mouchette". This is the latest we're hearing off the album and it's a murky slab of instrumental goodness. There are some choice vocal snippets that punch in and out of the track along with haunting strings and just the right amount of reverb-laden percussion. Listen below.

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die – “Heartbeat In the Brain”"

The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Heartbeat In The Brain
"Heartbeat In the Brain" is one of many tracks the good people at Topshelf Records have seen fit to release onto the Internet from the new The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die album, Whenever, If Ever , which is dropping in June and can be streamed in full here . The Connecticut band combines elements of emo, indie, and post-rock into a heavy and life-affirming musical experience. Enjoy!

Jaw Jam – “The Truth”

The Truth by Jaw Jam Via the widget above, stream the title track from the latest Jaw Jam EP, The Truth , which takes a pretty scattered, experimental approach to a lot of recent sounds coming out of future garage and UK bass music. The vocal edits on this 4-minute monster are incredibly infectious, and let's not neglect to mention the interjecting synths that have a pretty playful bounce to them I find really appealing. Finally, the beat itself is a lesson in detail, dynamics, and layers. I just wish it went on longer! Enjoy! [...]

Streams: The Crimson ProjeKCt, “Dinosaur” from Official Bootleg Live 2012 (2013)

In the closest we're likely to get to new stuff any time soon from King Crimson, the alumni-filled Crimson ProjeKCt turns in a nervy, tensile live take on this cut from 19952s Thrak. Adrian Belew, Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto - who last gathered in 1999 with Robert Fripp as King Crimson - were joined by Marcus Reuter, Tobias Ralph [...]

Nacho Picasso & Avatar Darko – “Kill Bill”

Nacho Picasso & Avatar Darko – “Kill Bill” If all goes according to plan, Nacho Picasso and Avatar Darko 's  Vampsterdam project will be here soon. How soon? Good question. All we know is that the singles thus far have been brooding bangers driven by huge drums and stabbing synthesizers, especially on the latest cut "Kill Bill". It's produced by MegaMan, who laces the duo with a choice backdrop for their dark and humorous wordplay. LOLing at Nacho farting perfume. You can stream/download the track below.

Mount Kimbie – “You Took Your Time” ft. King Krule (LOVED)

Mount Kimbie 'You Took Your Time' (feat. King Krule)
UK electronic music duo Mount Kimbie has been building up to the release of their next full-length album, Cold Spring Fault Less Youth , with a series of different tracks, and the one streaming above-in my opinion, duh -is easily the most captivating thus far. The duo pulls together a pretty minimal beat, placing some sad, miniature synths against a an even smaller beat. What brings the track an incredible presence is some vocal work from King Krule, whose performance blends the borders separating rapping, spoken word, and singing in a pretty emotional way. Enjoy, and check a [...]
